Current state of the squad

We should have had automatic promotion last season. Too many points were thrown away.
I think we have significantly improved the squad with players who have shown they can play a little.
I just hope we can play without a crowd; it must confuse players to suddenly realise that they aren't in a practice match.

The opportunity was there.

But Modesto & Anigo failed us spectacularly.

Squad clearly stronger ( without any more additions ).

But first choice X1?

Samba
Christie ( vs Cash ) ❌
Figs
Worrall
Blackett ( vs Ribs ) ?
Colback ( vs Watson ) ?
Sow
Ameobi
Freeman ( vs Silva ) ✅
Lolley
Grabban

Ravi

Upper Decker
Cash has the potential to be better, but at current level of development I wouldn’t say Cash is better than Christie.

Master Yates

John Robertson
How about...

Boom boom......

I agree though, Cash cost 14m because of his potential, but if he doesn’t kick on, he’ll remain a low end Prem/top end Championship right-back, which is what Christie has been for 4 or 5 years now

Disagree with that Ravi, cash at least adds some goals which Christie does not. Plus I think Cash is a better defender. Where they are similar is assists not average around 1 assist per 10 games.

So looks like rather than selling Yates to buy Arter, we’re selling Silva to buy Arter if the paper/twitter talk is to be believed.

That happens and it would leave us with 23 senior pros + 3 GKs + 3 academy grads + 4 bomb squad (IIRC), shaping up something like this

GK:
Samba
Dialo
Smith

RB:
Christie
Gabriel
Jenkinson
Darikwa

RCB:
Worrall
Mbe Soh
Benalouane

LCB:
Figuerido
Dawson

LB:
Blackett
Ribeiro

CDM:
Colback
Sow

CM:
Arter
Yates
Bachirou

CAM:
Freeman
Carvalho
Johnson

LW:
Ameobi
Da Costa

RW:
Lolley
Mighten

ST:
Grabban
Taylor
Guerrero

Bomb Squad:

Adomah
Hefele
Clough
Bong

Let me see if I understand correctly. I'll assume that you're buying McKenna and Ioannou, and I will not bother with the official bomb squad (Adomah, Hefele, Clough, Bong).

GK:Samba / Smith, Diallo [3]
RB / LB: Christie, Ribeiro / Gabriel, Jenkinson, Darikwa (Blackett, Ioannou) [5]
CB: Worrall, McKenna / Figueireido, Mbe Soh, Dawson, Blackett, Ioannou, Benalouane [8]
Midfield: Colback, Arter, Freeman / Yates, Bachirou, Sow, Carvalho, Johnson, Silva [9]
Wings: Ameobi, Lolley / Da Costa, Mighten (Taylor, Guerrero) [4]
Strikers: Grabban, Taylor, Guerrero (Da Costa, Mighten) [3]

That's 32 players without the bomb squad. Long and weird season and all that, but that's still ridiculous, especially in defence and midfield.

Defence [3]: Jenkinson or Darikwa has to go. With Blackett and Ioannou also covering LB and LCB, you can afford 6 CBs to be ready for three at the back. Therefore, two have to go: preferably Benalouane and Figueireido.
Midfield [2-3]: With Sow's fitness in doubt, you can perhaps afford as many as 7, although 6 would be preferable. Silva and Carvalho? Perhaps even Johnson on loan?
Forwards [+1]: The numbers are OK, but perhaps you could add another quality winger, especially since Lolley's form seems poor.

That would bring you to 24-25 without the goalkeepers, which is decent, and with quality depth.

With the new 25 man squad rules, I reckon we have 7 to get rid of or be 'bomb-squadded' for the season (assuming Ioannou signs). u21's are excluded from the squad so Mbe Soh, Mighten, Richardson, Johnson and Gabriel (turns 22 this week, so assume he'd be classed as u21) don't need to be registered but can still be picked.

GK - Samba / Smith / Diallo - (3)
RB - Christie / Jenkinson / Darikwa - (3)
LB - Ribeiro / Blackett / Ioannou / Bong - (4)
CB - Worrall / McKenna / Figueireido / Dawson / Hefele / Benalouane - (6)
CM - Arter / Colback / Yates / Sow / Bachirou - (5)
AM - Freeman / Silva / Carvalho / Clough - (4)
WI - Lolley / Ameobi / Da Costa / Adomah - (4)
CF - Grabban / Taylor / Guerrero - (3)

= 32

Four are obvious; Bong, Hefele, Clough & Adomah.

So it's 3 more from; Jenkinson, Darikwa, Ribeiro, Worrall, Figueireido, Dawson, Benalouane, Yates, Sow, Silva, Carvalho, Lolley, Ameobi & Da Costa. Assuming all the new signings are included and Sabri wants 3 senior 'keepers.

If we're still after a winger then another one would need dropping.

Any guesses?

If it were me:

Jenkinson
Figueredo
Carvalho
Sow.

If Sow could guarantee his fitness Id keep him, but he's a crock, so Yates survives.
I want another winger.

If they bombed any of the following I don't think it would weaken us:

Jenks or Darikwa
Benalouane or Figs
Carvalho
Da Costa

Take your pic from 3 of 6 there. Da Costa & Carvalho may come could one day, but would we miss them currently? No, not at all

Ideally the spread would be 1 CB, 1 RB, and 1 of the "creative" players. But I dare say the figures will dictate who actually goes.

It's all about mid-table...
Lot of excitement building which is understandable, we do it most years with new signings.

Hope it's not yet another big fall.

Dawson should be retired or allowed to move on to another club - too old for Forest now.
Carvalho is an interesting one: we need to get at least £8m to prevent a loss on sale that will hit the loss for the season.
However, he is completely and utterly redundant at Forest now.
Sad, but he is a "sun on his back" player... Greece or Iberian Peninsula would be best for him.
The English championship is to physical and the weather is too cold and wet for him to flourish.
It is a shame.
I was beguiled by the £13m price tag... £13m should have guaranteed us having a player who would be a match winner game after game.
It didn't, and there is an untold story about why he was £13m!

Darikwa - Based on Jenkinson getting the nod vs Cardiff
Ribiero & Bong - Bong pretty obvious. Ribiero for a multitude of reasons: He's upset SL with his Twitter comments, He's out of form and I suspect our Portuguese contingent are all heading for the exit
Hefele & Figueireido - Heff is obvious. Figgy is too error prone & easily bullied + he's Portuguese. Benalouane seems to keep lurking on the periphery of the squad and may yet see himself back in favour.
Yates to either go on loan to another Championship club or be sold.
Clough = obvs!. I think Silva will end up at Oly. Carva to anyone that will either take over the remaining fee or loan to a less physical league.
Adomah will leave for a free/undisclosed to another Championship club

Just checked the EFL site and the below suggests that Gabriel wouldn't be classed as U21 (DOB: 25/09/1998), so he would either have to be included in the 25, loaned out, or bomb-squadded.

" 'Under 21 Player’ means a Player under the age of 21 as at the 1 January in the year in which the Season concerned commences (e.g. for Season 2020/21, born on or after 1 January 1999)."

even you i think understand that one season with mistakes is not enough to definitely condemn to eternal hell and its seven gates

everybody makes mistakes except the dead.

i think that they have learned a lot as people from last season and they are trying to improve also themselves and adapt to the difficulties of your league.

up to now i see that the scouting is trying to bring there players that SL wants, that will improve the team etc.

of course the owner will have to pay for these mistakes but sometimes it's better to have people you trust to adapt and improve than try to find new people for the job

I'm hoping/assuming Smith and Johnson can get League One loans this season. Maybe send them to Oxford to link up with McGuane?

Jenkinson or Darikwa, Silva, Carvalho, Bong, Clough, Hefele, Benalouane, Adomah... The club has a lot of work on its hands moving on a significant number of players now even if we don't bring in another winger, which is the only real incoming transfer that could be justified at this point. I'd give Figs some time out of the side after recent performances and see if he improves in training before reevaluating his position at the club in January unless a decent offer comes in for him before then. Give Worrall some game time on the right side of the defence and see if he improves there, or try Mbe Soh next to Mckenna.

I expect Worrall, Carvalho and Silva to be sold. Perhaps Yates too if there is a good bid.

Gabriel and Smith will go out on loan I reckon.

Darikwa is easier to shift than Jenkinson, due to the latter's wages and poor injury record.

I expect we'll find new homes for Benalouane and Bong abroad, and a Championship club will probably take a punt on Adomah.

No one is taking Clough and Hefele off our hands so we may as well terminate their contracts.
