The Hull Daily Mail weren't too impressed with his performance last Saturday. Guess we'll see if he's still got it when he's got Benny B leading him a merry dance.

Michael Dawson sub-par

There was plenty of torrid performances on Saturday, but as the captain and one of the most experienced players on the field none were as pathetic as Michael Dawson’s.

The one senior professional in a defence littered with loanees, Dawson has steadied the ship well in recent weeks, leading by example and installing a degree of organisation into an otherwise vulnerable defence.

He did anything but, though, on Saturday. He struggled to cope with the pacey Joel Asoro all afternoon as time and time again the young Swede showed the veteran up, so much so that Dawson daren’t go near him at times.

The striker escaped Dawson to squeeze in the only goal of the game in the first half and after being booked for a lazy challenge, he can count himself lucky not to have seen red as Asoro went down in the area.

It’s all gone very quiet other than speculation and rumour.

I did hear a muttering about Ward but then the whole Warburton/Karanka thing happened.

Frank and honest journalism should always be welcomed, but ".....none were as pathetic as" seems a bit extreme for a local paper hack. I can't imagine Paul Taylor or the bloke who covers the Sadpies for the Post being as forthright in their description of an individual player's performance; mainly because of the need to maintain a reasonably cordial relationship between the paper and the club, more especially from the paper's standpoint.

I am actually reassured by the lack of any real speculation and general gossip as to who we might be targeting.

It gives the impression we are going about our business in a professional manner, rather than the Fawaz era when people's second cousins were posting stuff on Twitter alluding to being in the know.

Vrentzos does have a reputation for everything being quiet and a few signings pop up out of nowhere.

Mavropanos could very well become the next Manolas. Very strong, excellent in tackling, not bad with the ball at his feet, scores a lot with headers. Still a bit rough around the edges obviously, but great material to work with.

We were on the verge of signing him for 800K euros (which is a relatively high price for a 20-year Greek from a small club), but then Wenger stepped in with his more than 2m.

What do you reckon to Anastosis Donis mate?

I’ve seen him play for Stuttgart a few times and he looks a proper tricky young forward.

I didn’t realise until someone told me, he was actually born in Blackburn in England, when his Dad Giorgios was playing for Blackburn Rovers!

I haven't seen much of him to have a clear opinion. In a couple of games with the national team he was impressive, not only because he was pacy and scored, but more so because of the tenacity with which he chased all balls and pressed defenders relentlessly.

He looked like the kind of forward who would be useful either with a bigger body next to him, or in counter-attack. I don't think he could play in the wings. Sort of the definition of a secondary striker.

But I cannot judge someone from two games.

Incidentally, I read that Mavropanos' contract is for roughly 10,000 euros a week at Arsenal. He earned something like 400 a week at his previous team.

We've all had a raise of that magnitude, right? :facepalm:

i'm perplexed, i wonder how good Forest are, maybe AK is thinking we are a better side but sort of under performing?

so no need for stack of panic buys which usually happens this time of year

i think 2 or 3 good signings maybe 1 during this window, i'm worried about loans, think they will hold us back in the long term

but even though we have signed absolutely noone it's almost certainly for the better as sort of instilling confidence in the current squad to prove themselves

i think the training/drills/philosophy of MW has provided a good foundation for AK to take things forward

i think loans however good would only be any benefit if it got us promotion or we'd definately be able to sign them, otherwise could be self destructive in long term

overall ok with no signings, though surreal as this is AK 47 signings in 2 years, weird

besides a LB it seems certain that you'll get a CB, an guy in the front line (either AM or ST) and very possibly a DM/CM.

i will be very surprised if you won't get someone from spain or france. EM and Olympiacos in general have really good liaisons with managers in these two countries and i believe they will exercise these to get someone. Budgets for players from UK are looking hilarious to my eyes. There is no vfm in there. So, it looks straightforward that they'll have to sign players from other markets.

there is still one week to go. if you got Hult then there is a week for another 3. one player per two/three days. piece of cake. we had two/three players per day during several transfer windows. :LOL:

There is so much talent in those two countries at decent prices.

Karanka said as much that they will look to Spain in the future. Probably once head of recruitment and scouts are on the go properly.

I do hope we increase our scouting network in France. So much talent there. I see we were linked to a young CB (17) that Lyon just signed 2 days ago from a small club which is a good sign.
