My Big Fat Greek Rebuilding

Magamar

First Team Squad
Get a good manager that can maximize the potential of the England senior side instead of wasting year after year with managers like f***ing Southgate and Hodgson.

You mean the same Southgate who put most of these England player pathways in place when he was originally employed by the FA??

You mean the same Southgate who was a successful England U21 manager and probably completely understands not only the players who played underneath him but also how he can fit them into the senior squad??

Yeah, lets get in a top manager like Capello!!!

If 1-1.5 m is spent on a position in which most of you agreed that you were pretty much covered, then the whole "ffp is the big bad wolf" mantra does not really stand, and money is available to Warburton.

I expect big money to be channelled towards the midfield.

I expect big money to be channelled towards the midfield.

It needs to be, the thought of another decent striker starved of service & another season with an exposed back four don't bear thinking about.

Warburton will doubtless improve things, but not to the point we're challenging with the existing midfield.

I can see us selling someone, if a Newcastle comes in for Britt, he'll want to go I imagine and we could ask for big money. That would probably help us satisfy the FFP aspect and give Warburton/McParland some dollar to reinvigorate the squad where they see fit.

I don't want us to sell him, or any other of the crown jewels, but I wont be surprised at all.

I like the Cummings/Mahoney moves too. Young players, have something to prove and on an upwards trajectory in their careers. That's how you build.

Pretty sure that one of either Britt or Brereton will be off this summer for a decent fee, hence why we are trying to sign another striker (Cummings). Under FFP restrictions, unfortunately it is a necessary evil if we are to raise money to give Warburton something to work with.

If signings like Mahoney and Cummings are what we are going for over the summer, then I will be more than happy with that however. Signing young players like those two and Zach Clough is the way forward, building a side around talented young players who will grow and improve with the club over time.

Selling players is acceptable if the deal is right. Problem with Fawaz was that it never was.

Look at the rumours of Tom Cairney this summer going for £20 million. Thats what the best championship players are worth now.

Yep, selling players is part of the reality of being a Championship club adhering to FFP rules and as long as we get decent fees and adequately replace the players we sell then that's fine.

And it's not just the price that is important but the timing as well; my biggest problem with the Burke sale was that we sold him at the 11th hour with no time to adequately replace him, which was shambolic. In contrast, this year we are most likely going to sell one of either Britt or Brereton, but are looking to bring in a quality young striker in Cummings before that sale happens, which is a far better way of doing things than the Burke sale was.

It's more how it's done rather than selling them. You can work with a sustainable model of selling and reinvesting and still improve every year which many many clubs do. Our model under FAH was sell players to keep the club running. We were always going to decline.

There appears to be a twitter rumour during the last few hours that you'll be making a bid for Fulham's Kevin McDonald. Is he the sort of midfield you need?

Yes but he'll be pretty costly , probably at least 3-5 million seeing as he has done well at fulham and only been there 1 season. Doubt they'll let him go.

I agree. If they can turn down outrageous offers like the Newcastle bid for Tom Cairney, I'd imagine they'll want megabucks for KMc

The Greek press continues to name Olympiacos players that will be loaned out to Forest, although they are proven wrong one name after another.
The latest addition to the list is Andreas Bouchalakis, a 24-year old left-footed midfield. He is probably the least likely to go to Forest of the whole list. I used to have high hopes for him, because he was the sort of midfield that I like: tall, good and quick passes, good in providing support for the passing game in general, strong left foot. But he is one of the slowest players to have worn the Olympiacos shirt and he has a terrible muscle injury history: as soon as he gains the trust of any coach (usually at the start of the season), he is off for a month or so. And that's repeated two or three times every year.

I would be really surprised if Warburton agreed on him.

On the flip side, I've seen a few rumours today saying Olympiacos are thinking about taking Lica from us, you heard anything over in Greece about that?

Yes but not from very reliable sources and it's not confirmed elsewhere.

For several reasons I don't consider this to be a valid rumor

We are targeting other wingers.
