World Mental Health day

I would strongly recommend learning to ride to anyone who is able.

Absolutely. It's helped me innumerable times, mostly without me knowing I need it.

My worst days are always in the middle of winter, which is a double-edged sword really, because although riding helps, I've always seen it as an easy way out without people blaming themselves for my "accident." A logical end for me*, which I've never told anyone before.

Although I should add that those days are mostly behind me or at least recurring a lot less.

Edit: *logical when you have days where you think the world would be better without you or it's bloody hard just to carry on.

What do you ride and whereabouts are you? Surprised there isn't a biking thread elsewhere on here (at least I couldn't find one).

S1000R and Costa Del Stabbo.

That could be a few places in Europe that I've been, lol.

I've got a CBR600F. The bike is still far more capable than the rider so no plans to upgrade yet. I'm in Berkshire so give me a shout if you're on a ride out this way and the roads are dry.

A bit far for me as I'm in Stapleford, Notts. Normally pop into the peaks or play around the derby/leicester/Notts border.

I had to nip into the doctors surgery this morning to make an appointment.

They answer the phone calls to the surgery in the room next to the reception and I over heard one side of a call

‘ if you are suicidal sir, I am going to have to call the police ‘.

Sent a shiver down my spine to think of the poor soul in the end of the line. Hope he gets the treatment he needs.

As others have put, that conversation is getting more frequent.

I'm lucky in a way that I'm pretty well known at my surgery (was in there 3 times a week for 18 months for a different issue which has now been dealt with), and they know where to point me to if I have to get hold of them.

I'm currently on a massive downward spike, too much stuff going on in my head, and, I just can't turn off at the moment.

Its like I said to someone last night, the worst thing about Mental Health disorders, is that to the outside world, you can seem perfectly 'OK', and be the life and soul of a group, then away from it all, is when the black dog comes in.

I can't actually describe how my head works at the moment, but, the negative voice is prevalent.
Time to put on some shitty 90s trance music, and try to blast it away for a bit.

I don't think anyone here can say they understand how you feel, but we certainly are here as a collective to listen.

I will also add, there is no such thing as shitty 90s trance music, only 90s trance music.

This was my go to from that time

That's a great video from Norwich there, massive props to them

It reminded me of a similar video I saw about four or five years ago that addresses mental health issues (specifically depression) in a similar way:

I would say to everyone just remember that someone's outward demeanour is rarely representative of what is happening inside their head, and very often people suffering with serious mental health problems appear to the world like they aren't

Look out for each other guys

This is a similar one put out a few years ago by the Australian NRL.

Thirty days sober now Chris!

Things are so much better, it's ridiculous how many negative effects drinking every day has

But yeah I'm OK mate, hope you're keeping well
I am so, so happy for you mate. You have done so well there - keep at it.

As ever, you need to talk, you know where we are.

Is it just me or does the guy in video look like Joao Carvaliho? Powerful video again harvs playing on the same theme as the Norwich one.

Of all the people I have known that have took that ultimate final step, when considering these thought provoking videos only one I thought you could see the signs and that was only because his wife and his best mate ran off together and took a very successful guy for close to a couple million quid.... she also stopped him from seeing his kids, he absolutely adored those kids.

I won't divulge but he chose an horrific way to go which I believe shown how far he was from a normal frame of mind he was in.

There's a picture at his wake that I still see in my mind when I think of him where his daughter whod have been 5 or 6 at the time had her little arm around his big gangly frame, it was took from the back so you couldn't see faces but it was on a beach on the south coast as they both sat looking out to sea, so innocent yet you could sense the love there was between them.

Even though its been nearly 13 years i still sometimes think "why?" When I already know why because I knew the situation but then I think of that picture and again I ask why.

He was ill, he was hurting I wish we could have helped.

Quality effort pal! I've had my own issues with these sorts of things, and it takes a strong and brave person to put the head above the parapet and change things, they'll be setbacks along the way, but you'll learn how to deal with them.

Good health to you and yours. X
