Yoane Wissa

I just laughed out loud reading this. With this kind of charm, why would Wissa want to leave?

Brentford manager Keith Andrews opened up on his relationship with Wissa in an exclusive talkSPORT interview last week.

He said: "I have got a good relationship with Wiss.

"I worked really hard with him last year to try and find goals. Seven of his 19 goals last year came from set pieces.

"He owes me really, so he shouldn't be going anywhere, to be blunt!"
As with his managerial career, I wish him good luck!

It’s hard to feel sorry for Brentford, isn’t it? Maybe they’ll get a decent fee if Isak goes to Liverpool towards the end of the window, but they’re being foolishly stubborn and run the risk of ending up with a seriously disgruntled player on their hands come September 1st.

I don't think we'll offer much more than we have for him since he's technically Wilson's replacement not Isak's. The latest rejected offer of £40m seems a reasonable price, but if they don't want to sell they don't want to sell...

Like us, they don't have any senior strikers, so it's easy to understand their reluctance. If they get him playing again, his goals could be worth much more than £40m to them if he keeps them in the league.

Big if.

They could just sell him for £40m and buy Taiwo off us for £30m.

They are also wasting their time not getting a replacement.

We saw on the opening day they were miles off it.

Either they’ll mange to keep Wissa and have to try and re-integrate him into the team (good luck with that), or they’ll sell late in the window and struggle to find a replacement of similar quality. Maybe they have someone lined up that no-one knows about? They certainly were pretty toothless on Sunday.

I agree that £40m is a very reasonable sum given his age and that he only has a year left on his contact. Having said that, I can see how a player of his abilities would fit into your team. Strong, quick & technically gifted. If he is a Wilson upgrade, then it’d be a significant upgrade at that. That begs the question as to who you might be wishing for as an Isak replacement if he does leave?

I'm pleased that someone has ponied up a 40m pound offer, if only because it's the one valuation I've called correct this summer.

Of course, it's not correct as it's been rejected, and I suspect that getting more than that for him might be tough... Newcastle are desperate though, and probably have cash to burn so you never know...

Perhaps would rather lose him for very little with him not playing in the meantime? I doubt it.

A meet half way 45m gets it done then, crazy!

It's a game of Chicken, as Brentford know how desperate Newcastle are for a striker. But time is against both of them for all the reasons given above.

£40M is crazy money for a guy who is nearly 29, his re-sale value will half at best in a couple of years time.

That said, West Ham are good at taking past-it strikers on, Wissa for the hammers in 2-3 years it is.

Agree

What he’s worth to Brentford at the moment will be more than he’s worth to anyone else

Newcastle would be better going for Vlahovic and/or Mitrovic. Both good forwards that would fit in well with their squad

I'd take Mitrovic back if he was accompanied by a younger striker, he was a fan favourite and we were his second team as a kid. Doesn't seem to have been a name that anyone has linked us with though so I assume it isn't on the cards.

Wissa has gone a nuclear on Brentford via a public statement. What a mess, hasn’t exactly created a great image for himself.
