Xaver "No Middle Name" Schlager

Was fantastic today I thought. Bossed that midfield. Wish he was a bit quicker when carrying the ball though. Gonna be in the 'premier league best value signings' first eleven at the end of the season.

One ball he played today I thought he was just hoofing it away on the volley but it was a spot on volley pass across the full width.

Great game by him; seems to sniff out opportunities to steal the ball or eliminate threats but he showed more than that today.

Is this the same player who was so far off the pace against Leeds? 😆

Confession time: the first game I saw him was the League Cup match against Leeds. I concluded that there was no way he was going to adapt to the pace of the PL. He looked completely lost. It takes real courage to recover from a performance like that, and to do it so quickly was truly remarkable. This guy seems to have a fierce mental strength as well as a capacity to learn and adapt. It's easy to see why Glasner wanted him -- both player and manager have done superbly.

He's a modern day PL version of Paul McKenna, makes everything tick. I can see why Glasner regards him so highly
Kinda answered my question...feel like hes a mix of Alfie haaland / McKenna / David Phillips and some kind of midfield throwback to Holland 1970's total football - I'm too young to really remember Hodge et al...so...

He is proving to be a great addition to the team - top player - I actually was disappointed when Sangare replaced him

I love him. Such a solid addition, keeps things ticking, has a good eye for a pass, strong. He just looks like he’s been in that midfield for years.

It is his driving forward with the ball & arriving in the box which has been most impressive thing for me.

I expected a real workhorse that breaks up play & keeps it simple, but he has an extra 5% to his game that gets you up the pitch - he deserved a goal from his diving header arriving in the box.

Here's hoping he is able to commit as many fouls without getting booked as Sow did. He was unreal at it! Hacking his way through the oppo 11 then just shrugging at the ref, free to do it again 5 minutes later
Samba Sow was the funniest player I have seen play for Forest. I am trying to find that story Lyle Taylor told about Samba Sow completely cleaning someone out in a training session & just running away giggling but looks like it's been deleted.

Plus he was actually really good & could have easily played in the PL in my opinion. Not spoken with bias at all as Head of the Samba Sow appreciation society.

I thought he was bloody brilliant. It was only his body that let him down as he couldn't stay fit. But he was like prime Patrick Vieira for us in the Championship (perhaps slight exaggeration).

He played 40 games for us.

We won 18, drew 13 & lost 9 - and when he didn't play we always went on massive losing streaks.

I guess it is a double edged sword, if he wasn't so aggressive he wouldn't have got injured so much but if he wasn't so aggressive he would be half the player.

But I can't recall a better tackler than he was, and I include our PL era in that, as I say I think he easily could have played at this level.
