Soppy thread. Avoid if you don't like OTT bollocks.

Growing up all I ever wanted to do was play for NFFC. Might have done it one day if some unfortunate genes didn't put an end to a fledgling football career at the ripe old age of 14 but them the breaks you get in life isn't it. Not the first, won't be the last, and plenty of other lads much closer than I ever was of realising their dreams having it snatched away too soon.

So you become a fan, shout from the sides, post nonsense on forums for too many years about what the club should be doing like you know better. Truth is it's mostly because I don't have any other hobbies, don't particularly enjoy my work and my friends are distributed quite diversely round the planet so there isn't much else apart from NFFC, and whilst we all want success I'd quite happily settle for a team that you can relate to and want to go about things the right way.

Tomorrow night is massive but I'm see-sawing between biting my finger nails off already and not giving a f***. Not giving a f*** why? Because this team, regardless of what happens tomorrow, or next Saturday, or even in the play-offs if that is our destiny, has just been everything I've wanted from a Forest side for too bloody long. Honest, hard-working, humble, play the right way, good to watch, no ego's - everything a football side is meant to be about to most of us who turn up to watch second league teams for a hefty wedge each week.

I think sometimes it might be difficult for footballers to conceptualise the sort of impact they have on people, especially if they've not actually won anything yet, but this side has invigorated this entire city, even those who don't care about football. Literally everyone I speak to the topic of conversation is NFFC. The city is alive.

What this club has done for the fans and the city this year is nothing short of incredible, and I will be forever grateful for this season, these players and this manager.

The only thing left is for these players to write themselves both into NFFC and wider football folklore: "The team that won promotion after their worst start in 108 years." The script is written, the history books need it to be completed and the players deserve it.

We're with you every step of the way. YOU, f***ing, REDS.

We've already won.

That's my take.

Last September we were looking at relegation, while I'm not sure that Derby had yet been collared.

Justice finally caught up with them - we've soared to the brink of autos. It'll be great if we round it off with a fairytale promotion, but if we don't I'd back us to win the league next season.

Whatever happens it's been a great season...I just hope our momentum carries us on through the next two games!

I think we'd won prior to last September, Gary Brazil, Forza Garibaldi and the City Ground are the corner stones of this club and the envy of clubs in the prem. Cooper has bought into everything thing this club is and Dane Murphy has set this club on the path that we're on now which is only one direction. Exciting times and the fans and the players deserves it..

For me,it’s the unexpected nature of this season which has gripped the city.
The 66/67 side did this(coming from nowhere in November to nearly win the double),as did Clough’s 77/78 team
(close to the treble).
Steve Cooper’s class of 2022 has given us a great ride and restored the pride in Nottingham Forest(whatever
happens in the remaining games).

We all come from different backgrounds and we all have our own personal stories to tell, some spanning a few seasons, some a lifetime but we all share common ground.

Some of us were lucky to have grown up with the success of the Clough years and most of us suffered the desperate times of lower league football and the frustrations of poor management, questionable ownership and a squad devoid of desire and direction.

We may all well differ in our approach, our opinions and our levels of support and commitment yet we all identify with this magnificent club and we are united with the same hopes and dreams.

We all know how disillusioned we were as the season began. Another sacking and the introduction of another ‘coach’ but we were soon to recognise that something, this time, was different.

Things felt different. Things looked different. Not just the results but a mentality which, over the months, has developed and grown into something really special. Something that has been driven by one man, Steve Cooper, but has been the combination of many supporting factors.

So, here we are, on the eve of what could be the biggest couple of matches of our season by way of what we stand to achieve.

Tomorrow, we have a job to do but win, lose or draw…….. our pride in NFFC has been restored.

Good post Robbie and I agree.

Forest were the first love of my life and I have never stopped loving them in over 40 years. But this team (Cooper included) and this season has been something special, I haven’t been this proud to be a Forest fan in a long time.

I want them to do it more for themselves than me, they deserve it. To come from bottom of the table to potentially 2nd place is incredible and never been achieved before. Add in a great Cup run as well! Absolutely brilliant.

No matter what happens from here on, well done Forest! :)

Haha, I was never fully out, but have taken several steps away from football and Forest.

This season has felt very special from afar though, maybe that makes me a bit of a glory hunter (not that I’ve been to many games at all).

Must admit I didn’t think the Forza Garibaldi ultra stuff had legs, but it’s been awesome and timed perfectly with Forest finally seeming to have got the alchemy of CEO and Manager right - I’m proud of hell as them as a fan, but more than that thrilled for all the folk I know who have lived through some absolute horseshit with good grace, humour and positivity - they deserve this.

I feel a bit like an imposter but I’m enjoying riding on the coat tails from a distance. Of course we will dream the impossible dream until it really is impossible - the fact that is isn’t is, by any measure, one of the most epic stories the second tier has ever seen - if they can see it through, wow. At last we can bask in something current rather than past glories.

However things pan out, with a United front throughout the club I dare to believe the future looks bright even if this season doesn’t go according to plan. There’s a lot to be proud of in this squad of ours, and even though we’ve definitely relied on some shrewd loan signings few of them (perhaps Garner excepted) seemed to be in high demand - so I’m sure there are other unfancied targets on a list somewhere should we struggle to retain them wherever we end up next season.

And teams will be champing at the bit for Coops to add a few million to players’ values by having a loan spell with the Mighty Reds.

Great post. Been thinking about this a lot in last few days. I’m 50. Had a decent career, have all the responsibilities that come with real life. I know that in the scheme of things, football is not important. But at the moment, I can’t think of anything else. I’m in bits. After so many years where we have had false dawns and frankly abject failure, we should really just be enjoying the ride. But isn’t this what supporting a team is all about? To hope, to dream.
I know I can cope with disappointment. We’ve been here so many times before. But is it too much to ask that this is our time? God, I hope so!

Agree with alot of the posts I've been there but haven't been there with the team in recent times, there was some level of interest in the Karanka/Lamouchi times. But it's mostly been apathy and getting used to being a laughing stock since the Fawaz days.

It felt more of the same under the grim Hughton reign, but obviously behind the scenes some good things have been going on in the background last summer and I think the arrival of Steve Cooper and subsequent events have brought the love back to every supporter.

I think this season has been a fantastic ride which I don't won't to get off but sadly it is coming to an end. I think whatever happens there will be feelings of nothing but pride and admiration of the efforts of everyone at the club.

Even it is ends in glorious 'failure' I'm hopeful it won't be a memorable season in isolation and we'll be held in good stead to go again unlike after previous past attempts.

For me what ever happens I am grateful for the season and the rekindling of belief in this amazing club.

I hope we go out tomorrow and tear their head off and do it in the style that this club deserves and represents, on the deck, flowing attacking football. No fear.

Thats all and if we do that and loose B'mouth will have deserved it and good luck to them..

Most of the time people don't understand why I wake up every Saturday at 4am or 6:55am to watch a second tier football team that their dads might've heard about once on ESPN in the 1980s. Sure, the football fans here kinda understand but their POV is based on waking up to watch United or Liverpool. They, for the most part, don't have family that lives near that team unless they're expats.

It says in my profile that I live in California, im not an expat(obvs) nor is my dad. My granny was the expat, the only one in her family to leave England, and it was her life-long regret that she left. Thats why her ashes are buried in Eaton in Leicestershire with the rest of the family who has passed, its where she's meant to be.

I bring her up because its the main reason why I follow Forest. Obviously, it helps that my dad told me about them when he bought FIFA 07 for my PSP. She used to talk about Clougie alot and his arrogance would amuse her. Basically most things regarding the UK remind me of her.

When Forest do well, in my head it means shes happy. When Forest do poorly, I'd like to think shes YELLING at the football gods to give us some leeway.

I'll always be proud of Forest, win lose or draw. I love watching every SECOND, I love reading everyone's wrong takes pre/post game and I love interacting on this forum.

I think I was born in the wrong country lol.

Growing up in Suffolk, I was the only kid in my school supporting Forest. Rather than hide from it, I let everyone know who my team was by having Forest everything, pencil case, bag, coat, you name it I probably had it. Skipping school to make evening kickoffs, travelling hundreds of miles up the A1 every other week, I didn't care as Forest was my thing.

Moving onto adulthood and I jumped at the chance to relocate to Nottingham. Getting seasons tickets and travelling to away games became part of normal life. My circle of friends is today still mostly built from those prematch drinking sessions.

More lately and 2 kids later, my interest in Forest had started to wane. I still followed the score, I still watched when we were on TV but years of mediocrity had ground me down. Then something changed when Cooper came in, he relighted that Forest fire in my belly too. I feel like that school kid again who wanted to tell everyone who his team was. I want to be at every match and think about Forest almost nonstop. I took my 5 year old little girl to her first match a few weeks ago and plan to do the same with her little brother when he's old enough. Another generation of Forest fans are born.

I don't think these sorts of stories are uncommon. I know a load of people who are now fully back on their own Forest journey after years of apathy towards the club. Steve Cooper and this side have done this, let's hope they get the rewards we all deserve in the coming weeks.

They've made me proud of them again, they've made all of us proud again.

Win, lose or draw tonight and Saturday, it doesn't matter, because they've taken the old girl and dusted her down and taken us on a journey we never expected, never even dreamed, playing some scintillating football all the way. That it is winning football is an absolute bonus.

After years of dross, who'd have thought getting the ball and attacking would be so much fun?

If the players read this, you've done us proud, we're happy again - Now go out and finish the job for yourselves, because that's what we want you to do, you've earned the right to it.

Read this thread and pride is a recurring theme. Thank you for giving it back to us.

Some fantastic posts and I know some of you will have felt daft writing them but if we're all honest it's exactly how we all feel.

I've had strange spells supporting this club, I was a lad that supported them as a tribal thing with my friends at the time of Italia 90 when my love for football began. I went on to be an apprentice there for several years until the early 2000s. I still supported forest after I left but being a full on supporter, such as wearing a replica shirt and shouting from the stands seemed awkward to me after representing the club and wearing the badge myself. It took a decade for that to wear off fully and probably got me through those really dark years supporting forest as I distanced myself slightly.

I started to embrace it again when Psycho returned as manager which was when I took my son for his first forest game. That roar as Psycho appeared from the tunnel sucked my back in and a new forest fan was born as my 6 year son looked on with his mouth wide open at what he was seeing and hearing.

I called for Hughton to be sacked last season as I'd already been warned by Norwich supporters what to expect, and true to form I was witnessing it with my own eyes. The style and results were inevitable and the life drained out of me when the opposition scored, we knew the game was over. The beginning of this season I started to feel so disillusioned and disinterested in the club, I felt I'd spent my lot (those years as an apprentice which ultimately finsished my dream took a lot out of me) and I felt more disconnected from the club than I ever had.

Roll on to the current day. Dane Murphy, Steve Cooper and the playing staff, thank you so much from the bottom of my heart for giving me and everyone else our Nottingham Forest back. I'm proud to be a part of this great club once again and so is my son. We're emotional with bursting pride these days, I truly hope that Steve and the players will get to really understand the enormity of what they have done for the supporters and the city of Nottingham.

To give a perspective on how much 'outsiders' are even talking about Forest right now, my 70 year old mother in law, who detests football, knows nothing about it, randomly said to me on Sunday morning, and I quote word for word, "here I see your wee football team are doing brilliantly when it looked like they were going to be cast down at one stage". Cast down = her term for relegation (I quite like it).
