Whilst in some circumstances a Maß (the one litre glass) is absolutely appropriate, the problem during a sultry Stuttgart summer is that if you order a Maß, the weather is so warm that the Bier gets uncomfortably warm before you get half way down, so you’re better with the standard half-litre (and then another, and another…)

The Maß has its place - when for example I go to the Cannstatter Volksfest (think Stuttgart’s alternative to the München Oktoberfest but with less overly-pissed tourists) which is held at the end of September, then absolutely, one orders a litre of Bier in a Maß (and some fried food) and you sit in the tent, listen to the music, and let the world slowly slip out of focus.

But when the weather is warm, you want a cold Bier. This is also why many bottled Biers here are sold in 33cl bottles, so your Bier never gets too warm before you’ve finished it.

(and then you order another, of course!)

🤔 thought them Germans would have come up with a beer (glass) that keeps your beer as cool as when it was poured
a family friend ( lived in Munich) brought me a stein ( pot) as apposed to glass when I was younger I’ve memories of supping orange and eating leberkase with mustard in dirty big buns.

There are ceramic Steins for drinking, which does keep Bier a little little cooler, but they aren’t really practical for bars and pubs.

Why... just why?
American beer is shitter than anything I have ever tasted, and I've tasted some shit in my long life.
I have had 4 pints of Sinister's Special Home Brew... and I'll fight any bogger who says American IPA is anything better than raw sewage.
Shipyard IPA - doncha just love it? Freshness and summer sensations in a bottle. Give over with the home brew muck. this is a flavour burst better than Starburst.
