Training Day at the WFCG

It was good to see Pereira speak with supporters today.

The PA system made it difficult to hear but here’s what the leader had to say…..

“My message to the supporters is: you are our family, and as a family, in the hard times we need to fight together and we need to be together.

“You are the essence of football and this club, and we will do everything to put a smile on your faces.

“The fans are fantastic. We thank you so much for coming here and supporting us, and we will do our best to keep making them proud.”

“They have the quality and the character; we’ve just wanted to give them the confidence to play at the level that they can. We need the supporters to support them in the good and the bad moments.

“We’ll take it game by game and focus on the next game. We’ll go there to win the game. This is what we are: strong inside, ready to fight, ready to compete and do our best to win games and celebrate with our supporters.”

Approx 6k there today. I took my kids down to watch. Nice to catch up with Reidy after not seeing him for a long time.

Seeing lots of complaints about people not getting autographs but in fairness that was impossible to facilitate with so many there.

I'm in there somewhere

I was thinking a few weeks ago, the club should do this to try and bring everyone a bit closer together and I'm glad that someone at the club decided to do it because especially for a club like ours, the relationship between the players and the fans is incredibly important.

We had a lot of changes in the summer and really, that means an influx of people who have limited connection and understanding of what Nottingham Forest actually is.

They actually should have probably done one of these around like September time and moving forward, they should do them earlier in the season so the new players can get more of an appreciation for who they are playing for. One of the things I feel we really got right last year was showing the players as people, rather than just the usual image of them as footballers.

Whether that was the bromance between Elanga/CHO/Ola or Dominguez/Sosa/Jota making Mate drinks together or even the Coffee Club with like Yatesy/Toffolo/Woody etc.. talking about mental health.

The stuff with Murillo and Hudson-Odoi for me is super interesting, because you get more of an insight into them as people. I wish they'd done it with like Igor and McAtee and such.

This has probably been planned for a long time -but it feels another positive step for fans and Forest after a difficult season. Hopefully helps to keep positive momentum going into last part of the season as fans are going to play a big part. Loud and proud!
Definitely keeps the positive momentum going. It's no coincidence that they announced it right after the Spurs win.

We managed to stumble into meeting the players for autographs after being led out from lower Bridgford, behind PT and into the players carpark where all the players stopped for pictures as they made their way to the team coach. Made my lads year but we were lucky to take that route out of the ground at the end.

Far have we travelled

First Team Squad
No Luca Netz in training
He wasn't in the main room group of 16, but I think he was in the small group in grey tracksuits training at the Trent End of the pitch.
A guy sitting next to me showed me a post from the club saying that Anderson and Selz were resting after international duty, abd that Aina and Hutchinson were doing individual work. The only name player missing without explanation appeared to be Cunha.

Hopefully someone had Hutchinson to one side practising corners

I saw that post from the club. Why would Aina and Hutchinson be doing individual work? Behind in fitness or have some knocks?

They were all the goalkeepers. My teenage daughter was bugging me about who Aaron Bott was because she took a shine to him. Before I'd finished saying his name she'd already followed him on Instagram 😂

I gave my tickets to daughter and granddaughter or I would have been summoning the players over to tell them how we played it on Annesley Welfare (SundayLeague) back int day.
"Hey , I don't want to see anyone wearing gloves unless its the keeper" etc etc

It was great to see so many fans and families involved. It really wouldn’t have cost the club too much at all and we need to be developing our younger fan base.

It was different when my son first started going to games as we were League 1 and the club and squad were more accessible and approachable. It was easy to see them, chat with them, get photos and signatures. Everything was certainly more personal and it really made a difference.

The danger of success is that things can become too sterile and disconnected so Forest really do need to build more on days and events such as this. Our future fans.

I still think we're relatively unusual as a Premier League club whose players can often be found wandering around the local area, sitting in coffee shops etc. I think that helps make them feel a bit more normal, even though these days they're earning astronomical sums.

I can't imagine players at most clubs in this division could do simple things like grab a bite to eat without being absolutely mobbed.

There used to be an open day just before the start of the season and I remember the players would sit at tables and people filed past them getting autographs. They were playing the previous season's highlights video and I happened to be at the table where Michael Dawson was when they showed a goal he scored ( against Burnley? ) and he shouted Yes get in. I went in my Hartlepool shirt just to be awkward.

It just highlights the effect of being a Premier League club when many players are superstars in their own right and the club is catapulted to a different stratosphere.

There were as many at that training session yesterday (approx 6k) as there have been at some Barnsley games I've been to this season.

I do agree only this is down to the players and not the club.

I’d like to see the club do a bit more. I appreciate it’s difficult to fit in with our match schedule but international breaks are perfect and pre-season is a great opportunity.

Forest used to do a Super-Seven promotion visiting schools and providing a shirt and free end of season match day tickets for those kids with a 7th birthday. My son was lucky to be included and was presented with his shirt by Gareth McCleary in 2004. I’ve had a season ticket since and he attends every home game he can.

Thats not going to happen now we’re a Premier club but I do believe we could do more PR for the families and the younger fans.

Definitely. My point just reiterates yours: that there's way more the club could do to capitalise on the unique nature of Nottingham Forest FC.
