Top 10 Forest strikers

Cloughie1975

John Robertson
Nottingham Forest have obviously had some wonderful strikers over the years-I thought I would list my personal favourites in chronological order.

1.Ian Storey-Moore
2.Duncan McKenzie
3.Tony Woodcock
4.Peter Withe
5.Garry Birtles
6.Trevor Francis
7.Peter Davenport
8.Nigel Clough
9.Stan Collymore
10.Kevin Campbell

Notes-
1.I’ve included Ian Storey-Moore although he was primarily a left winger who drifted inside a lot (hence his high goal ratio).
2.I didn’t see enough of Joe Baker to form a proper opinion (he was seriously injured soon after I started following the Reds).
3.Good players like Bryan Roy and Pierre Van Hooijdonk don’t make my list.
4.No striker who has played for Forest this century makes the list.

I’d be interested to see other forum members lists.

On a more serious note:

1. Collymore
2. PVH
3. Earnshaw
4. Grabban
5. Campbell
6. Roy
7. Johnson
8. Harewood v1
9. Blackstock
10. Assombalonga

I was aware of Clough and Jemson etc but I cannot ever really remember them playing so couldn't really include them.

It made me realise how starved of decent strikers we have been with how much easier it was to do a shit 10.

Stanley Victor Collymore remains the finest striker I have seen playing for Forest in 46 years of watching them.

Hard to argue with that except for Joe Baker for Campbell

I am only going to name my list from my era which is 1998/1999 to now.

1. Lewis Grabban
2. Britt Assombolga
3. Michael Antonio
4. Robbie Earnshaw
5. David Johnson
6. Marlon Harewood
7. Brennan Johnson
8. Darren Huckerby
9. Nathan Tyson
10. Joe Lolley

What a sad list that is as I would say that Lolley, Tyson and Antonio you could argue arent strikers and Huckerby was here for about 5 minutes but what a 5 minutes it was!

Can I just add into this mix in this thread that Gareth Taylor and Marcus Tudgay were absolutley dogshit that some people thought were good. They were okay squad players but my god I think we used them too much.

Even by the low standards of the time, I don't remember anyone thinking Taylor was good.

His only memorable qualities were that a ball arriving on his head could potentially end up anywhere, and that he'd commit a handball nearly every single time he chested the ball down.

He was cheap, and he wasn't Marlon King, but that was about all he had going for him.

Kevin Campbell was a great striker, however people routinely saying he was better than Bryan Roy in my humble opinion are 100% wrong. Roy was an absolute Rolls Royce of a player.
Agreed. Roy was head and shoulders above Campbell. Campbell did well for us in the Championship, did sod all in the Premier League in those previous 2 years. Like PVH, I think fans slightly overrate him because he scored goals in the second division. They're still 3/4 on my list though!

Anyway, my top 10 (I'm going from 93/94 onwards so that does discount Clough, Sheringham). Also not including loans.

1) Stan Collymore

2) Bryan Roy

3) Pierre Van Hooijdonk
4) Kevin Campbell

5) Lewis Grabban
6) Marlon Harewood
7) David Johnson
8) Britt Assombalonga
9) Rob Earnshaw

10) Brennan Johnson (debatable whether you'd call him a striker)

Surprised from the newer fans there's been no mention of Keinan or Surridge yet, I'd put them ahead of the one season wander and vastly overrated Johnson senior for a start

Tyson was a striker but Billy shifted him wide left for his pace, although he couldn't cross at all. Antonio wasn't really a striker for us but he is now I suppose. Bit of a stretch to call Lolley a striker though. Maybe could get away with McCleary instead.

If you look at Davis's stats they arent worldy I'd say however Surridge is a natural born finisher without a doubt.

Trying for a list of 10 from 83/84 onwards (even though I know/saw enough on video from players in the few years before that in theory), and going more with an estimate for the 10 best rather than favourites (the original list in post #1 looks like it'd be pretty much the 10 best anyway though) and in approximate order, not chronological (giving the nod to those who played longer when in doubt):

1: Stan Collymore
2: Nigel Clough
3: Bryan Roy
4: Teddy Sheringham
5: Peter Davenport
6: Pierre van Hooijdonk
7: Nigel Jemson
8: Kevin Campbell
9: 'old' Garry Birtles
10: Lee Chapman

So that's also 100% from last century still, although that's probably getting a close call by the end of the list I reckon to be fair.

It is isnt it.... You see Id say Antonio and Tyson are inside forwards but Lolley is a genuine out and out winger. Otherwise than Grant Holt, Sam Surridge or Keinan Davis.
