I don't think it's as impossible as some are making out, we've already proven we're not against paying £150k+ a week on select players (see MGW on his latest contract)

Obviously we're not matching City on a flat £250k+ a week, but I wouldn't be surprised if the club is prepared to offer something like a flat £180k with some incentive based performance bonuses to go on top

No idea if the player would be tempted enough to want the move, but if Glasner has identified him as his key target i'm sure EM will be prepared to push the boat out for him should he be open to coming here

3.5 milllon a year is quite the drop in salary though.
 
The only issue with the wage is consideration of impact down the line. It's not unheard of for players to have 'matching terms' in their contract. I suspect MGW might have one. Again, not necessarily a deal-breaker if it's one or two but will have to be factored-in.

Any player who wasn't a complete c*nt would donate one week a year's wage to a nominated supporter. And, no kids! They get enough bloody sympathy on the annual team visit to QMC paediatric ward.

Just trying to explain why you might get the type of response you do.

By your own logic you could ignore the speculation if you feel that strongly it won’t happen…but you feel the need to reply to it with the only purpose of dragging everything down. It’s your prerogative not to ignore it, as is mine and others not to ignore you and challenge back. So feels odd you get so worked up.

I always think this. Like why do ultra-rich people carry on bothering to work? Carrying on putting their minds and bodies through stress each day when they could easily chill on a tropical island somewhere?

I suppose it's human nature to always want more.

I'd like to think if I was earning that much I'd do it for a short time and then retire but the reality is I'd be living in such a different bubble to my current life and I'd probably be looking at someone with envy who has £10m for example.

Think the reality of making it to the level professionals do they have to have elite determination and drive so it really must go against a lot of their instincts to just let it slide unless they have simply fallen out of love with the game.

I have a lad in the system and the pressure and expectation is wild at such a young age, you can’t build that in and turn is off

I think if you're earning £250k+ week people are either doing it for fame/ego, or power, or both.

I don't think it's about the money or material goods at that point.
