I must have missed this. what tram extension is this? I've seen talk of extending out from the city but not within the current routes.
going east, via Meadow Lane and on to Netherfield, then Gedling. A lot of the route exists using the old colliery line.

The issue with that is that it doesn't really serve anywhere, there's a hill in the way by the railway line through Colwick until you get to Netherfield and by that time you've bypassed Sneinton, St Anns and Carlton, Netherfield already has a station (well, I suppose you could even say two) to get into the city, so then it would just benefit Gedling, which is fine in itself but then you'd have the effect of people travelling to Gedling to get on the tram if indeed that was closer than just doing what they do already.

They'd ideally be popping lines up Sneinton Dale / Oakdale Road and probably also then Cardale/Porchester to get to Mapperley without having to disrupt too much of the B686 and B684

It occurred to me that EM will have been our owner for a decade in May 2027. I'd be very surprised if he doesn't push for some substantive redevelopment be accomplished to mark that anniversary and ensure we go into the 2027-2028 season with a rebuilt PT stand.

Everton, Liverpool, Villa, Man City, all the London grounds including Wembley are nightmares to get away from. It’s inconvenient, but I don’t think it should affect the stadium expansion plans. Big events have big crowds and therefore lots of traffic. If the city is ambitious we just have to put up with it like other cities do

It's not like we've never had crowds over 40000 before. I've been in several at the City Ground, admittedly the last was over 40 years ago, but I don't remember gridlocks back then. Just big queues for the busses.

“We want to eventually add another 22,000 so you can understand why NCC and RBC need to be satisfied that this isn’t going to create gridlock for hours every matchday”

I don’t think this is fair or realistic or even reasonable from the local councils.

A traffic gridlock after matches is a given.

Every single Wembley stadium event is gridlock for upto 14 hours per event, due to multiple road closures, and this affects the wider Wembley area and even impacts the North Circular.

It is accepted because it is London: why cannot we have the same mindset in the Midlands?

I’m working the playoff final tomorrow and it will be carnage for the local residents and only a fool would drive close to a major Wembley event but, unfortunately, that’s the price for living next to a major stadium: same with the City ground.

Totally agree with this

We live a couple of miles from Man United. The motorways are gridlocked every time they play; the route into Manchester is closed off; the trams are bursting at the seams. That’s what happens when you’re an ambitious city with big events. you just put up with it and avoid the area. Or move house to Warrington.

I don’t think avoiding traffic problems is a realistic objective or one that should be used to delay the expansion by one minute.

Gives the opportunity for the Racecourse to become a Park and Ride, unless they want to go further down the Loop Road (which of course, is built on an old railway line), and head towards Colwick and Netherfield and wherever the authorities intend the next Trent Crossing to be built on that side of the city.
I never even thought of that. A tram line going down that road is surely the next logical one, especially as the council are trying to encourage investment in that area.

Its a little bit of my 'tism kicking in, cos then you can either run it towards the new estate getting built round the back of Carlton towards Stoke Bardolph, or, run it up the colliery line towards the Lambley Lane area on the Burton - Gedling link road, and put a terminus there.

I would add into that mix of stadiums that are a nightmare to get away from:

On a separate note, for the final match of the season, the pitch looked absolutely beautiful. The goal area had been patched up but irrespective the grass was immaculate.

I know the pitch will be dug up and relaid over the summer. What do they do with it? Isn’t it a hybrid plastic type of grass?

When I did a tour of the City of Manchester Stadium (I know it was because that was the location given on the fire alarms) the guide said they used real grass interlaced with plastic. So you're quite right, but I wasn't interested enough to remember the exact construction.

Well it took an hour to get away from Villa Park the other week, but they don't care! If you think London Road is bad, that was on another level!
Tbh it was only a small area of Birmingham. Unfortunately our traffic problems has the makings of gridlocking the whole eastern side of the city centre.

not sure I fully understand the traffic congestion thing here in relation to West Bridgford. If we increase from 30k to 50k that’s a big increase in people walking to and from the ground (and spending money), but I’m not convinced the expected increase in cars will be felt in west bridgford or anywhere near it. Personally I’d be parking well away from the ground and walking in and I’d expect most other people would. You’d be mad not to. Traffic coming into the city might be affected but I don’t expect much to change around the ground itself.
I might pop into the Council Highways office and have a word.
At the Lady Bay meeting I referred to previously, it was pointed out (by my friend a Forest fan)an increase in capacity wouldn’t make the parking worse in that area, as it was already completely congested on Match day. he and a couple of other attending Forest fans also pointed out how much income football brings in to the area.

Mention of Lady Bay reminds me that before the Notts game yesterday they had a junior game and Lady Bay Primary won and waved their trophy from the presentation balcony. More young Notts fans?

On YT there’s a video about Ipswich wanting to redevelop Portman Road into a modern 40,000 seater. They have on the surface of things, less issues to overcome than we do. But feels like we are becoming one of the smaller outfits in the prem.

Anyone know what’s happening with the ground development?
Not really. Steve Battlemuch, a regular on the Forest Focus podcast has had a letter of support added to the portal today but it just echoes everyone's frustrating thoughts
