The Relegation Dogfight 25/26

Yes, definitely West Ham to go through

They are the chasing team, the less points they get the better & they are more reliant on individuals, injuries will hurt them more than Leeds.

I still fancy Leeds to go down. Hopefully today is a boggling injury blood bath, I never like to wish genuine long term or bad injuries on players, but just a 3-4 week niggle for a few of them.
Well Stach has just limped off so a couple more studs up 50-50's to take a few more out would be nice

My memory of my favourite era is fairly good,Chris-but I’m afraid endless games against Preston and Blackburn in the Championship forty years later all blur into one.
I admire your modesty Norman, but I don't buy that. Your memory of precise, almost minute detail from even mundane, forgettable games is genuinely extraordinary. My recollection of fairly peripheral stuff involving matches that have left an impact on me can be decent, but distinctly 4th-Division compared to you. For instance, I was involved in a pub discussion on Friday afternoon with my mates about memorable goals at the CG that we'd all witnessed; inevitably, Flip Le Flem's wonder goal at the Trent End against Burnley in 1962 (often cited by fans of a certain age who were present as the best goal ever scored at the ground) came up. All four of us still had reasonably good recollections of it, but could any of us remember the final score? Of course not (for the record, a later check confirmed that we won 2-1).

Thanks,Frank-but I tend to remember things when the chips are down (at either end of the table) rather than mundane fixtures.

Would you care to describe Le Flem’s goal to me?

My personal favourite at the City Ground is Duncan McKenzie making the Manchester City defenders look like fools
as he set up Ian Bowyer for a tap in in the memorable 4-1 FA Cup win on a magical afternoon in 1974.

All in all, a satisfying number of injuries from the West Ham v Leeds game. On today’s showing, Leeds look less able to handle the additional game and the big event of a trip to Wembley.

I genuinely don't know where West Ham found Pablo from. Never mind spending £20m on him. Also £25m on Taty who can't stay onside.
taty reminds me of jesus , a lot of huff and puff, end product not quite there though he did hit the post. Let's face it,with the amount of dross we spend in the summer, we shouldn't be criticising how other teams spend their money. January is never a good month for transfers but for west ham, it's needs must since under potter, they utterly failed to address what their team needed in the summer.

hate Leeds, but a continued distraction for them now, could do with putting the pressure on them in the next 2 league games.

I think Leeds will eek out just enough points to stay up and they might even get to Wembley.

West Ham hopefully will feel deflated and also hopefully the now buoyant Mackems will give Spurs a good shagging.

We just need to win a couple, which is doable. COYR

I slapped a tenner on Leeds to go down at the end of normal time yesterday. It’s been the value bet for a few weeks now. Nothing that happened after that puts me off. Best thing for us yesterday was one of those teams winning badly. Leeds were shite.

The Elland Road narrative is increasingly nonsense - 2 wins from 7 homes games in 2026 (and we know how bad we were in one of those), no home win now for 2 months. Have your extra game, Leeds and enjoy.

Their next two home games (Wolves and Burnley), while being easier than most on paper, might actually make the crowd more nervous too, as we've seen at the City Ground on numerous occasions.

They are already at Wembley. I assume you mean the final. I also think they could turn Chelsea over.

Was pretty perfect yesterday. Extra time and West Ham's confidence even more shot. Really think Wolves could turn them over on Friday.

Look at Pablo’s record, he had 5 good months in the Portugese league for a bottom half side. It was a bizarre signing, clearly Nuno just asked Mendes for a striker.

Taty is okay, reminds me of Jota Silva.

Yeah I agree, I don’t rate them at all and all it takes is a good week for their rivals and they are dragged right in.

Us on 6’s an them on 8’s is crazy really for such a small cushion.

I do think the distraction we have in the Europa counts against us the most and they now have this distraction in the cup.

It’s interesting that you talk of narrative as well, the media love a narrative from a promoted ‘underdog’. It was Luton to a ridiculous level, Burnley under Kompany, now it is Leeds. They also can’t stop with the West Ham narrative, yesterday after the game I had talk sport on and you’d think West Ham had won, how positive it was, how great they’d played v Leeds, shown fight etc.. I didn’t watch much of the game but they lost to a poor Leeds team at home an half the stadium had walked out in disgust at 2-0. They are obsessed with polishing the West Ham turd.

I can’t decide whether the relegation dog fight got easier or harder after yesterday’s result.
On the one hand, West Ham players might be demoralised, and it’s all over for them.
On the other hand they are now able to concentrate totally on their league games.
As for Leeds, the semi-final could be a distraction and pull them down into the relegation mire.
Alternatively Farke may tell the players their semifinal place is dependent upon them giving 100% in every league game.
I think I will do a podcast about it and make money out of everyone’s misery .
