Played the most boring guitar ever in Reading, a Gorden Smith. Looked mint on the online pics, travelled down there on train (think they wanted £600 for it so wanted to play it first) and it literally just felt and sounded like a plank of wood with no smoothness, bite, umph or anything, regardless of setting.

Cheers for the clarification, but being one of the very few who suggested Hughton cant be as bad as made out, I was happy (& said as much in the Hudders thread) Reid had gone some way to proving there was more than one way to skin a cat with this team. Objectivity personified.
That said, if the next guy comes along & suggests the players were going half cock & the owners didnt make the best use of a proven manager, it would be difficult for anyone to disprove it.
Ultimately who gives a shit. Cooper looks like a better & more sustainable fit going forward. Which is all that really counts.

I had sickness and diarrhea in the hiotel toilets at the Madjewski Stadium... start of a really bad case of compilabacter that left me hospitalised for 3 days.
Forest v Reading, 2011, it finished 1-1, Reading took the lead, then Forest equalised after the Reading goalie bluted a clearance against Robert Earnshaw‘s buttocks, and the Wales international pounced on it and slotted it home for the equaliser.
The only decent bit about that game was the lovely real ales in the pub next door to the train station, post match. There were a fair few Forest in there, but I got a bit pissed after about ten pints.
(Disclaimer; a very good friend lived in Reading so I always used to do that as an „away“ match because I always had somewhere to crash. She cooked a fantastic breakfast, too).

Despite it not being the greatest game in terms of quality, having 4pts from 6 after the start we've had, plus seeing the team actually having a go, has definitely lifted a lot of the drudge which the last 2 years has brought. :nottsflag:

Today wasn't much different to every other home match this season.
Against Boro we had 15 shots, 6 on target, and 6 corners from 59% possession. Today we had 10 shots, 3 on target and 3 corners from 56% possession. But today we 'had a go' apparently, whereas we didn't in the previous matches. Apparently.
Not just singling you out Alf, because I've heard others pretend to themselves that today was somehow significantly different, but it shows most people don't really pay much attention to what actually happens on the pitch.

Thing is though no-one has pressed us as hard as Millwall did today. They had pretty much all ten outfield players constantly in our half that first forty-five minutes.
I wouldn't say what we faced today was comparable with other teams that have come to the City Ground this season.

I thought we posed a much better goal threat than we have in any game this season by some distance. Shots on target aside.
There was no killer instinct today, but we constantly got in dangerous areas and caused Millwall problems all game with our counter attacking. If that continues we will win games.

Other than the Grabban chance I can't remember us threatening their goal much, whereas they had 3 or 4 really good chances. What were the other good chances we created?
Granted I think the 3421 suits our players better, especially with our wing backs, but otherwise I think our main problem hasn't changed, namely, lack of quality.
I tend to agree, we didn't force the goalie to make any saves, we scored from a fluke and the defence didn't gift them a goal.
We may have attacked better as a team but we still had little to no end product.

Just thought we constantly got into dangerous positions that we previously hadn't. We attacked with pace and numbers.
I agree the lack of good chances were there but if we continue attacking like we did today the chances and goals will come.
It was a way better game than we have been served up with so far this season.

When we face teams with a lack of quality in attack like us I'm very relaxed, because I know that barring an error or a wonder goal they aren't going to score. They can get in as many dangerous positions as they like, but without a final ball or end product it means very little.
It wasn't as if we were up against one of the top sides.
