The Mood

At least previously it has just been the owner who's been an embarrassment, in spite of his investment (I needn't list the many examples).

This season however we've been embarrassed by the entire club, from Marinakis all the way down to the 2nd choice 'keeper.

The levels of hubris, ineptitude, incompetence and laziness on show are off the chart.

Pray to god that no club below us manages to put a couple of wins together, as even a 7 point gap may not be enough given how utterly clueless the entire club is currently.

I’m not even certain we’ll stay up any more, all it isn’t like West Ham and Burnley are that far behind. Mood is like a pre-acceptance of our shitty fate. That way should we magically stay up then it’ll just be a nice surprise.
I think we have around 14 players who are up to this level so the problems will really start if many of those
get injured or fatigue sets in (we need at least one decent striker in regardless).

The sad reality is that that beyond the best 14 the rest haven’t proved they are at the required standard despite
us spending plenty in the summer.

I just miss last season, that's my mood.

I was wondering in the summer, everything is going well, can we actually f*** this up? Well... You can count on Forest to pull that off spectacularly.
One thing to keep in mind though is that the EL was always going to take it's toll on us.

We actually did the right thing - look to add quality depth - to cope with that. But said depth is mostly either ill-suited, shit, or both.

But regardless, even if it had been great, I personally expected us to be around the 15th mark in the league because of the extra EL demands, and we're not far off that.

So the f*** up isn't THAT spectacular to me personally. I think some of this is just part of the extra burdens we have this year.

I kind of agree,Alf-but we shouldn’t be 17th in the PL looking over our shoulders (you are correct about the majority
of the new additions).

If we get relegated that WOULD be spectacular.

We are where we are, and if we finish the season where we are right now I'm happy. Europa league final run would be nice, though it's not looking too likely at this minute.

One slight worry I have is this growing call for Silva, who I don't doubt is a better manager than Dyche btw, as some seem to see it as a miracle 'cure' for big boss. Marinakis loves him primarily because he won loads of games. While he may have enjoyed his straight talking or whatever, lose games and that goes right out of the window.

Would I take Silva? You bet I would - he's a good manager - but right now our collective focus should be on backing Dyche to complete the good work he has begun of keeping us in the premier league.

(And really with Silva there remains a very big question mark about whether he even fancies the job.)

I know Europe would be in the picture and be a factor. But it's not just a matter of performance judged by numbers (which is also definitely worse). It's the atmosphere around the club, the unity, the belief and the confidence. All that is just gone.

It's a car crash of a season that I'm finding hard to enjoy. Just got to get over the line in the PL and see what we can do in Europe.

It could well be the last time we play in a continental competition for a long time, so I'm going to cherish those games as much possible.

See this is the problem isn't it. This should have been our best season in nearly 3 decades. But it's turning into a total pain-fest. With no end in sight.

It’s certainly not been a happy season for Forest but I’d rather be playing Arsenal on Saturday than Bristol City.

The ‘end in sight’ for me are-

1.Stay in the Premier League (without breaking PSR).

2.Exit Europe and don’t return until we are really ready.

3.Replace the current recruitment team with people who understand the requirements of the Premier League and
Nottingham Forest.

4.Commence work imminently on the City Ground if it’s possible.

5.Don’t try and run before we can walk in future.

All is not lost but if we mess the next few months up I fear a return to oblivion.

Europe may have been a factor when it comes to stamina, but it's also true that the team's performances have been worse since the European games stopped. If you think about it, us playing the easiest 3 out of the 8 games in the middle of the schedule and in a row offered a welcome break from the Prem. The fringe players got some minutes, the team was winning quite easily or at the very least dominated games (Graz), kept a few easy clean sheets, and it was all a welcome break for the fans too. Those games lightened the mood a little bit. The PL doesn't offer opportunities like that, it's tough and relentless, and we've been playing solely Prem games for a month now, winning 2 in 6 and losing the rest. It could be that the team needs them back as much as us.

Thinking about Europe brings such a weird mix of feelings to me at the moment. It's great in some ways as we're back amongst the big clubs in a way and have a genuine chance of doing something. It's also a welcome distraction from the league although the standard of the games has been poor generally.

I feel like it's a bit like buying a flash car but getting into serious debt doing it. It's great having it on the driveway and I feel like Billy Big Bollocks driving it but I can't deny that nagging feeling that owning it is more trouble than it's worth.

Unfortunately Cloughie, much of that won't, or can't, happen while EM is in charge. We have to take the rough with the smooth and enjoy the ride.

I'm so glad I was able to take my kids to the Porto game. They'll remember it forever and I'll cherish it too. It was unthinkable a few years ago, when Colback hit a 93rd minute equaliser at Loftus Road my youngest got the bug. Think of how far we've come since then.

For the best part of a year we were ‘a well run club’. Owner and recruitment, manager, players and fans - each cog in sync with the next. We made a mockery of all the bullshit stats and found a refreshing way to play in a pretty tedious age for football, and for a lot of the time we were irresistible. It was an extremely proud and unifying time to be a Forest fan, and I think that unity was our strength.

But over the summer it seems that one of those cogs slipped and every part of the machine almost immediately broke down. Which of them went first; what’s the root cause? Was it negligence or unavoidable circumstance? None of us really know, but read through these pages and you see fingers pointed at every component part. And that’s what defines my mood. I really enjoyed the unity - now so much of the noise is fans just slagging off some part of their club for whatever reason they’ve become attached to. I kind of don’t care who or what’s to blame - I only care that it’s broken and it needs to get fixed.

I think ultimately I’d like to see us get ourselves well structured enough that one cog going off the rails doesn’t break the whole machine. To be just a bit more resilient to setbacks. I read that West Ham was the 2nd time from 103 occasions in the prem that we’d won from a losing half time position. That’s a really telling statistic for me. From owner to fans, you can’t trust Forest not to break down under pressure.
