The Joe Lolley Renaissance

😂 not quite that bad but close enough. Sydney as a whole is just w**k. I f***ing hate them
I preferred Melbourne but Sydney was OK - if a bit more unstructured in terms of where things are and a bit more of a pain to get around.

Much nicer than anything in the UK anyway

You have good taste slatto. Melbourne is the place to be😗. Sydney, as in the city is beautiful but the people there are just on another level of A class arseholes

Thing is whenever we went out on trips (I was over there for a few days on holiday a while back) it just seemed like we were travelling through miles of sprawl to get anywhere (from a city centre hotel). In Melbourne most of the city centre is confined within the little inner ring by the station and parliament building & it seemed more easy to get in and out to places without needing to travel through sprawl. Almost as though they'd planned Melbourne a bit more like an American city rather than letting it just evolve. Can't really comment on the people other than to say I didn't have a problem with any of the Aussies at all

Best part of that holiday on a Forest theme was definitely following "that" Ipswich game in Yulara, which is certainly an interesting place.

He is having a proper late-career renaissance down under, and fair play to the lad for that.

Watching him play at the moment. Going well tonight. Has scored a brace prior to half time at the Sydney FC v Melbourne Victory. Thought he had his hat trick but the player who provided him with the assist was ruled off side. Hopefully can get it in the second half.
Looks like he's having a lovely old time, got a hat trick today

8 goals & 2 assists in 9 games so far this season, easily the best player in that league. Not a bad way to run down your career!

It is the Lolley show in the highlights, could have got 5

Great player for us a few years ago. At his very best he reminded me of Reidy.
Think Forest basically ran him into the ground and broke him for Championship level. For far too long lumping it towards Lolley was our only gameplan, he was expected to single handedly carry us forward whilst continually being hacked down.

Far have we travelled

Interview about Joe leaving Forest when we got promoted, worth a watch.
Very uncomfortable listening to that. Joe Lolley deserved a lot better than to be treated like that, and what he describes (and I've no reason to suspect he's not being truthful) reflects poorly on the club and, I'm afraid to say, on Steve Cooper in this case.

Funny how we critisize the likes of isak and wissa, whos too say whats going on behind closed doors with them ?

If the club dont care about you then why care about them ? Same can be said with other employers.

Don't get me wrong, I don't think he was good enough to play a part in that Premierleague season and in his final season with us, he wasn't really anywhere near his best but there is absolutely no loyalty in football is there, lmao?

It's a standard move, for players surplus to requirements to get f**ked off to the U23s but considering how few players we had in that summer, we could quite easily of accommodated him in pre-season.

Shame really but he still speaks with affection for the club which is nice.

I haven't seen the video, but we have to remember that football is a job for these players and the clubs the same as we work for our companies etc.

If a player isn't performing, then the club absolutely has the right to take them from the first team squad or sell them or whatever.

Seem to recall Karanka brought in Lolley in the first Marinakis year, he'd come through at Hudds, got his shin issue, then they barely played him because they were in the PL, and he had just come from NL and was recovering a bit and then after that he went to us pretty much. He was then our main player for that season, and then the Karanka/O'Neill season after it where he was running basically everything himself, and the play off near miss season, and it was probably the whole downing of football then the resuming of the season after lockdown with the extra games coming quickly probably didn't do him any good with the stress on his muscles, then he wasn't quite the same the season after, and we also had other wingers by then like Ameobi, Knockaert, etc even though Johnson was on loan, then Johnson coming back with Zinckernagel on loan etc helped with the attack meaning Lolley wasn't going to be automatic attacking options in the year after, but that point he was broken anyway, think that was clear after the covid season when he said what the issue was

Of course, there's not much chance he was going to be good enough/fit enough for the PL so a classic case of the club progressing and a player not fitting the picture any more. But he did his best for us and is a decent lad, the Australian league is probably a good fit for him to continue playing whilst enjoying himself. Joe isn't that old yet but there are plenty of tennis players in their late 30s and also Wawrinka is 40 now, who are still playing and enjoying it although not at the level they are - and then there's Djokovic. No reason why they can't and why Lolley shouldn't.

Wonder where he'll end up next. Just checked his stats on Wiki- still scoring a goal every 3-4 games this season, so no reason at 33 why he's not carrying on....

He said in his statement on Sydney's website he wants to continue playing in Australia. I assume his injuries meant Sydney decided not to extend him otherwise you'd assume he would have just stayed playing there if he wants to stay playing in Aus.
