The best situated English ground?

Here's a random bit of trifle after the chat about stadiums visible from motorways. Which English ground has the most impressive surroundings?

I suspect many will go for for Fulham, owing to the Thames flowing next door, but I'll nominate Huddersfield. The Pennine hills provide a nice backdrop, matched by the arc of the stands.

Excluding ourselves, I must say Brighton’s new ground is excellent. The architecture of it as it blends in with the South Downs in superb. Having said that, it is miles out of Brighton which would usually rule it out for praise for me.

Special mentions goes to Newcastle as well for how it dominates the city skyline..

The Amex is in a shit location, stuck on the side of the A23 & miles from Brighton & no boozers within the vacinity

I like Hull's stadium set in the middle of West Park.

That’s an awful list. There’s no way the scousers (in the Middle of a Slum) and Man U (Next to an industrial Estate and railway line) should be anywhere near that lot.

I agree, think it applies to ground architecture too but then again they are nothing to write home about. Villa’s is a nice ground but location isn’t brilliant.

As Flagman has already stated there really isn't a more iconic location than the WFCG, but there are several that deserve a special mention.

St. James Park, home of the Toon sitting on the highest point of the Newcastle skyline.

Gayfield Park, Home of Arbroath FC for it's proximity to the North Sea. I've often wondered how many footballs they lose to the elements every season

Sadly not there anymore, but Gay Meadow the old ground of Shrewsbury Town FC was in a wonderful location, hemmed in by the River Severn.

Lastly, Pittodrie, home to Aberdeen FC is but a spit from the North Sea, sitting behind the links of the towns golf course. Give it 20 years and the sea will have submerged it never to be seen again.

And I've just re-read the thread title to see that I've ben talking Scottish bollocks when it's only English clubs :faceslap:

The Inverness ground is an amazing view over the back of the stand out to sea. Looks very picturesque. I bet it's cold February, or even August!

Seeing as the title says English grounds and not English football grounds, I'll go for The Rec where Bath play. Cracking Turkish restaurant around the corner too.

Not just saying this because it's our ground but the sight of the City Ground blazed in sunshine as you walk over the bridge is a beautiful sight

Walking to our ground with my West Ham season ticket mates along the river bank and over Trent Bridge and they said, entirely unprompted, that the location is hard to beat.

I think most grounds are situated in odd spots because the modern ones are plonked down where there is available space either in the middle of retail parks or in the middle of nowhere and the older grounds in residential areas where the urban spread has jammed them in like Preston or Goodison.

What they actually said was ‘cor blimey gavnar, nice views ain’t it, but do they sell jellied eels me ole china’.

Maybe we are bias but the City Ground location is perfect. I couldn't think of a better place in the City to put it.

Location is beautiful and convinient with the tram, public transport, walking distance from town centre). Good food and boozers in walking distance. LOADS of parking.

I really like all grounds by rivers, there is something just special about them.
