Extract from the Irish Examiner about lost football grounds:

The Dell (Southampton)

Opened: 1898.

Closed: 2001.

Moved to: St Mary’s Stadium.

Now: A housing estate. Now a mixed development of houses and apartment blocks around an open space where the pitch once lay.

The cursory nod to football: Le Tissier Court and other units named after old legends.

Best feature must be Crossley Place, a social housing section. Mark Crossley was the only keeper to save a Matt Le Tissier penalty.

As Saints fan Nick Illingsworth put it: “Was someone in the developers a Nottingham Forest fan with a bit of a sense of humour?”

Not quite sure how I came across this from the BBC4 archive...

Quiz Ball, a sort of Question of Sport from 1966 - Arsenal v Nottingham Forest
Ah,Quiz Ball-what a show.
I seem to remember Forest reaching the final around 1970-which was more exciting than the actual football
at the time as we were in serious decline.
I recall many of my schoolmates were in a frenzy waiting for the final to be shown-alas,the score was somehow leaked that Forest had lost(2-1 I think-which ruined the excitement of the chemistry lesson).

If Forest somehow qualify for the Champions League, does Marinakis have to sell one the clubs?

Am I right in thinking an owner can't own two clubs in the same competition?

He's already transferred some of his Forest shares that would enable him to do so.

You are right in saying that he can't have both clubs in the same European competition at the same time. That Kominakis bloke who owns part of the club (20%?) might become the majority owner in such a scenario?

I work with someone who lived at Le Tissier Court when it was first built.

Miss the Old Dell... great small ground with character.

That is exactly what would happen, should the need arise.

Matt Le Tissier, in my view one of the most talented football players that I have seen play live. He couldn't tackle for toffee though. Loyal to one club throughout his career and is a legend in Southampton.

Negative side: now on a conspiracy theorist crank watch and beginning to remind me of Daivd Icke.

From my Facebook memories today. Who’d have thought “another 9 years of pain” was the answer…

I probably stole it from here tbh!
I love looking through this forum. Coming across posts like this.

I know that sounds daft, but I must have airbrushed out a lot of our recent history and I need this sort of post to show me just how much we have really endured; I know it's there in my mind somewhere, but it's been shunted to a dark corner.

Only too true. Repression can be a lifesaver.

Pretty much my first 10 years as a fan.

Which makes Wembley so important for us lot.

Has he singed yet?
I peaked very early. Started following Forest in 96, saw a Division One winning side and then 24 years later...

This is great. The story of the season condensed in to key highlights and it lasts almost three hours.

This is part 1 but there are 4 parts to it. Just shows how much everyone played a part.
The thing you notice about watching all our goals back is how certain players all had months where they were brilliant.

When we were rubbish it was definitely Zinc. Grabban from when Cooper took over till the new year when he got injured. Johnson went mad in the new year pretty much until the end of the season. Late January Keinan took over. Yates had a spell where he was deflecting it in with every part of his body. Then when Davis got injured Sam took over.

Just everybody playing their part and all hitting form when we needed them.

Something I noticed was the variety of goals we scored. Not only close range goals but the amount of 'lucky' goals we have scored through perserverance, having numbers in the box, picking up the loose balls etc.. it's probably the biggest change under SC. I feel like I was moaning for a good few years almost every game about not getting players forward, not creating chances and shooting from long range too much.
