It was harsh, he was trying to use his shoulder to keep the player away but ended up elbowing him in the head instead.

Definitely not on purpose but it probably was a red, can't see it being overturned.

Yeah, just goes to show for all of the absolutely ridiculous whining that Emre and some of the Villa fans partook in over the correctly awarded foul and yellow card yesterday that if the same outlook had been taken, Maatsen would have left the field earlier when he broke NDoyes nose is a similar fashion.
 
Did not expect that kind of thing from T - stupid and no need for it. No idea why he did it, but it is not going well for him at Coventry so far.
Still, it removes the ex-player curse where they suddenly become better than Messi and Ronaldo combined for a brief moment that they play against us.
 
Lmfao that is a stupid red, his eyes were on the ball the entire time and he doesn't have any priors with us.
 
I can't recall Taiwo ever being sent off for us, but I do remember loads of occasions when defenders knew they were going to lose an aerial duel with him, so they'd go up with an elbow or arm into his body, then go down as if Taiwo had fouled them. More often than not, the ref would unfairly give the free kick against Taiwo.

He was so strong in the air that defenders seemed to know the only way to compete with him was to make a meal of the challenge.

S'funny - I watched the video clip and came to exactly the opposite conclusion.
He jumped with the first defender and with not a hint of malice aforethought he caught him with his elbow.
How bad it really was one can't say because players die a million deaths if someone comes near them.
However, Taiwo then jumped for the 2nd ball, with another defender, and caught him in the same way.
I think the ref might have given a yellow for the first instance, but because it happened again immediately after he had to go with the red, to protect other players from Taiwo's ungainly jump style.
I repeat, I don't believe for one second Taiwo intended to hurt either defenders.
The thing that really grates is Maatsen was not sent off in our game for a similar offence.
 
Don't like seeing players punching the air celebrating when opponents get sent off. You see this a lot now. Yeah, it helps when the opponent goes down to ten. And we supporters have always celebrated that in the stands, but it looks so classless. And it didn't used to happen. Vušković has gone on my list for celebrating Taiwo's red card. Hopefully Big T gets the winner in the return fixture. Nutmegging him in the process or something.

Coventry fans seem to think it was out of frustration

I don't think that is the case, he never showed much frustration here playing in similar games & almost always very isolated.

It just looked like an accident to me, he was trying to barge the defender & didn't realise he was doing it into his head. He wasn't even looking. It probably was a red but it was definitely accidental.
