Summer 26 Transfer Window

Yeah but if he replaced Anderson in our usual 4231 that would leave us very exposed out of possession.
Yeah, I take the point and my thinking is more in line with a 3 man midfield setup. I've still got no clue what system VP will go with next season and I suspect we might see him try a couple of things in pre-season.

Could we be the ‘other’ PL team…..

Palhinha latest: Can Spurs persuade him to stay?

Sporting present the biggest threat to Tottenham’s attempt to re-sign Joao Palhinha – but the player prefers to stay in the Premier League, Sky Sports News understands.

Spurs boss Roberto de Zerbi is understood to have held further talks with the midfielder and reiterated his desire to keep him following his successful loan from Bayern Munich.

The North London club have until tonight to exercise a £26m (€30m) option to buy him as part of that loan arrangement.

But that looks set to expire, with Palhinha yet to make a final decision amid Sporting's efforts to persuade him to go back to Portugal.

Although he is understood to like the idea of ending his career at Sporting, the soon-to-be 31-year-old is also understood to feel it is not yet time and he has unfinished business in the Premier League.

Sky Sports News understands there is one other Premier League club who would be keen to sign him – but Spurs would be in pole position if he does decide to remain in England.

I’m sure someone posted what was supposedly VP’s list of transfer targets whilst at Wolves, that went in a thread didn’t it ? might be handy to have sight of that again 😂

I posted it a month or so ago in the VP thread and managed to find it. Its a year out of date so a lot of the players have made moves or increased in value massively (Mamadou Sangare, Tzolis and Lamine Camara would be the prime examples).

I've been keeping an eye on the Guessand (3 stars!!) deal at Villa/Palace potentially breaking down, just out of sheer curiosity to see if there was any truth to "the list" at all. Original date the list was "found" was the 15th of June 2025.

Looks like the list of an excited 16yo starting a new career in FM.

Looking at that list makes it clear why Dilane Bakwa got a few games, VP seems to rate him.

I know it’s a very unpopular view, but I could see us going for Rico Lewis for that role. He’s takes the ball in tight areas, surprisingly strong, technically sound, and can turn, drop a shoulder and drive forward. Picks a good pass out too.
And finally, us being able to get a direct replacement for Anderson is virtually impossible.

Can't do this multiple quote thing...

1) Macatee then? ignore the strong bit (is Lewis that strong?)
2) Nico Gonzalez for the 3476th time, excellent replacement

I'd like to see us stick with the 4-3-3/4-4-2 diamond shape and bin off the wingers. A good solid CDM (the lad from Stuttgart will do, Stiller is it?) with Sangare and Gonzalez as the two and MGW with two forwards or MGW/Macatee and Victor Osimhen up top. Sorted

Is Gonzalez a realistic target for us, can’t see it personally.

I think Lewis is strong in the challenge/tackle. Can’t see that much difference to the lad we are linked with from Barca really.

Right, this is the thing. Where are we pitching ourselves for the next couple of seasons? are we going to continue chucking millions around on potential assuming a couple will turn into gems? (admittedly like Anderson has) last season wouldn't give the confidence we've got the skill set for that

Or are we going to add 1 or 2 real "walk straight into the team" quality players to push us to the next level i.e. regular Europe and winning cup finals rather than losing semi finals?

It's a big conversation to have and a very interesting one but if it's the latter then we should be aiming at a circa £50m player rather than 2x £25-30m punts (can't believe 30 million quid buys a punt these days)

Gonzalez is exactly that type of next level player in my opinion

Athletico are after Gonzalez- he's not a realistic option for us at this point.

Apparently Tammy Abraham wants out of Villa.
Tammy Abraham finds himself at a crossroads in his career, with the Aston Villa striker attracting interest from Sunderland, Everton and Leeds United, as he weighs up an early move away from the Midlands side.

The 28-year-old, who returned to Villa in January for £21million, is weighing up his options amid limited playing time at Villa Park, sources have told TEAMtalk.

Interesting one - he is only 21, a Dutch U21 international who played a couple of dozen times for FC Fizzy Piss this season, but he is considered a highly rated prospect, and he is quite tall as well.

I thought I had recalled him scoring for Leipzig but the Bundesliga app insists he doesn't have a goal this past season (I blame the Bier).

I don’t disagree but the challenge is actually signing players like Gonzalez after a relegation battle and four managers in a season. We struggled to sign established quality last summer with European football following a CL battle.

Abraham has been rubbish for both Villa and Roma though, hasn't he?

I really like Curtis Jones, think he's very underrated. He played a few games at fullback as I recall, so he can't be that bad defensively. I haven't checked his stats though.

If you check most of the names out they are all mostly highly rated prospects or have done very well at the clubs they are at, i wouldn’t mind us going for some of the names on there

Looking forward to another summer of links to players I've never heard of or seen play, along with random tweets saying the exact same 8 clubs are 'showing interest' or 'vying for' them each time.
