Summer 26 Transfer Window

Personally, I'd like a keeper who can pass the ball with reasonable accuracy and confidence. Not sure Henderson is much of an upgrade on Sels in that department.
Yeah, as someone said previously, Henderson is really only an upgrade on Sels in terms of age.

Sels started last season slowly too. I think he'll be fine.

I suspect part of the reason we were looking at a keeper wasn't that Sels wasn't good enough, but that we have no one to step in if Sels gets injured.

Sels is 34, he's under contract to 2028, at which point we will almost certainly release him, so we will need another keeper in the 24 months regardless, and in the mean time we don't really have a contingency plan.

My preference, instead of Bender, would have been to pick up an up and coming keeper who could have challenged for Sels place in a years time. Give that player a year of cup games, and a couple of games at end of season if our season was petering out to mid table, just to get them used to PL standard football. We could still do that in January I suppose.

Federspiel went to Newcastle when the PIF were chucking money at them so you can probably bet they offered him a salary wayyyyy in advance than Forest would be willing to sanction. Probably same thing with Ross Wilson.

I suspect there's also an element of Forest thinking that the key to our success was actually Syrianos, not anyone else. If you go through our list of players that have either become a key part here, have been a really good value signing or have been sold on for big profit, it feels like Syrianos probably had the most influence:

At a guess:

Sels: Syrianos
Williams: Cooper
Milenkovic: Syrianos
Murillo: Marinakis' random mate
Cunha: Federspiel
Niakhate: Syrianos
Aina: Syrianos
Netz: Syrianos
Mangala: Syrianos
Danilo: Federspiel
Anderson: Wilson?
Elanga: Wilson?
Sangare: ?
CHO: Syrianos
Elanga: Syrianos
Wood: ?
Jesus: Federspiel
Awoniyi: Syrianos
Sels has always been wilson. Sels agent call him to ask if he is interested when sels wanted out of his club and wilson referred it to nuno and his goalkeeping coach.
So there are 2 elangas - one for wilson, one for syrianos ?

Training compensation only apparently - they agreed a deal with Hoffenheim previously for 1.8m euros, so sounds like a decent bargain, even if he never makes it as a PL striker.

He’s going to love olympiacos in 3 years time!
Well, a bit of digging around would suggest his training compo will cost us in the region of £180k-200k so as long as they pay us a loan fee bigger than that, we are up! No sell-on fee either. Looks like great business.

Looks like we have an early candidate for a January 27 transfer thread.

Edit - oh there is one, just @Notcher has his own rules on which forum it should be in……

He refused the move to Hoffenheim apparently, refused to sign a contract to take him past the end of this season in Ireland, which meant that he'd be free to leave. Shamrock and St.Pats get 180k (Euros) each training comp...

Sounds like the pay off to shamrock rovers is that we send academy players over. Hopefully it’s win/win for all.

Not an unreasonable stance, to be fair; for anyone who does not know, Hoffenheim is about the size of Clifton (yes, really) and the village is so small, the football club had to move to nearby Sinsheim when they needed a proper stadium (their new stadium, the "ProZero Arena" was built from scratch in Sinsheim, just down the road, which is a much larger town).

The other - and major - claim to fam for Sinsheim is that it is home to (one half of) the Technik Museum (the other half is in Speyer), which is utterly fantastic and houses a collection of aircraft, military vehicles and road vehicles in a brilliant indoor and outdoor museum, and it is the only place in the world, where you can see - and walk aboard - a Concorde and a Tupolev TU-144 (the Russian equivalent of Concorde) as they have one of each, exhibited next to each other on the roof of the museum (no, really).

Anyway, back to Hoffenheim - you may wonder, how on earth a village the size of Clifton can boast a Bundesliga club? (I mean, could you picture the famous Clifton All-Whites as a Premier League club? Because that is what we are talking about here....)

Well, it helps when Hoffenheim's most famous son (a former youth player of the club) is one Dietmar Hopp, and for anyone who doesn't know who he is, in 1972 Herr Hopp - along with a small number of colleagues at that time from IBM - founded a small software company they called "Systeme, Anwendungen und Produkte in der Datenverarbeitung" (in English, "Systems, Applications and Products in Data Processing"), which - for everybody's sake - was quickly abbreviated to "SAP", which has gone on to do rather well for itself, making Herr Hopp and his friends multi-billionaires, and he has put substantial amounts of money into "his" old club, taking it from the Kreisliga (the lowest tier of German football) to the absolute top flight of the Bundesliga.

Herr Hopp however, continues to attract the ire of some other German fans, as his club does not entirely, adhere to the famous "50+1" concept, although he has transferred much of his shareholding to members, and has promised to pretty much give away the rest.

Don't tell me - They are Hopping mad about it.

He has actually received death threats, and a couple of seasons' back, Borussia Dortmund received a fine for allowing their fans in the famous Südtribune to raise a banner of Dietmar Hopp's head, with a sniper-style cross-hairs superimposed over it, which many thought (with some justification) was just a little bit too far over the line.

But did they add the word "Not" in the banner? Then they would be safe legally. That's a foolproof defence according to my frends* at the south London club.

*Used to be friends, then last season they said I was an acquaintance, now, this season , I am a sworn enemy. Not sure what changed.
