Summer 26 Transfer Window

BBC have listed some free agents. Some surprising names on there. Any gaping holes in the squad that any of these could do a job in? I would say the ‘Other notable’ list has some more interesting names on

What do you mean half - I would not take any. They are either too old, have injury problems or just arseholes who would destroy any team spirit.
There is a reason no club has taken on these players - stay way clear.
However, will be interested to see who gets desperate enough first to take on Vardy, back to Leicester perhaps ?
 
Respectfully to all of them, if they were on an upwards trajectory, they wouldn't have been without clubs all summer.

Something also to consider, because they are 'luxury' free transfers, a lot of them will feel they can demand big wages and while we wouldn't be selling out eight figures on some of these players, they also wouldn't be cheap.

Let's take Jadon Sancho, had a chance to go to Chelsea permenantly and refused, they weren't gunna pay him enough. He goes to Villa, plays 39 games for them last year, he scored once and assisted three goals.

The only one I'd maybe consider is Neto the goalkeeper, as I still think he'd be a better choice than BetVictor.

But, I'd rather see U23s get a chance over some free loader

Got to agree that a lot of them would/could destroy a dressing room. The only two I’d be tempted by would be Brozovic (although he’s now 33) and Bennacer. I’m interested to see where some of this lot end up.

I went conservatively with half as I'd not checked all of their ages.

Edit: I could be tempted with a little nibble at Mahrez if the wages were sensible

The only one on there I'd take would be Pogba, but his baggage is too immense and I doubt he has the intense desire to play any longer. Not that he ever had "intense desire" except for media attention. Tragic that such an incredible talent was wasted.

Yes, Alaba is currently without a club. He was injured towards the end of the season and then went to the World Cup completely unfit and barely played. Not sure how fit he is (or can be) but on the face of it, with our gaps, he’d be the perfect free transfer if he isn’t permanently broken.

You just need to match the profile of player not the quality so the balance of the starting 11 isn’t out of kilter. So no it dosen’t require similar quality but players with similar play styles. I’d rather drop MGW into the 2 than play any of those you mention Ed

We need a mcatee replacement though. I think we’re well stocked in ball winning midfielders. We have no one who can do what mcatee could do. It’s a shame modric isn’t on free it’s that type of midfielder we need.
