Still think the LWB addition is going to be an important one with Richards being out for a while, seems clear the plan is to have an efficient ball carrier with plenty of pace on the left who can quickly get us up the pitch just like Spence did for us down the right

In theory it's even better to have that threat on the left side as it will stretch teams and allow BJ more space down the opposite side which should allow us to get him involved more. When we're in possession McKenna shifts to LB and we now have options with supportive players in CM to provide defensive cover and not have to worry too much about getting exposed with a wingback playing more like a winger

Williams on the right side is a more disciplined player which will keep us balanced, doesn't offer blistering pace but is an intelligent player on and off the ball, defends well and provides good delivery. Once him and BJ start clicking their partnership will be a big threat on its own

I wouldn't go as far to say Cooper doesn't rate Toffolo I just don't think he's got the raw pace and ability to carry us up the pitch on that left side, and that seems to be a key part to this puzzle

Have a lovely break GBG!

I’m planning on going to Greece next year for a family holiday (wife and two young kids) and looking for somewhere off the beaten track to rent a villa. Any recommendations?

This should possibly be in a PM but then others might also be interested

Tourism accounts for more than 20% of the country's GDP, so after two years of the pandemic there are a lot of people who will try to squeeze tourists out of every penny they can. Caution, and some luck, are needed.

GBG mentioned earlier that we might be overspending. I don’t actually see it that way though, even if we spent £200m. We’ve bought well with high resale values (should we need) but I don’t think we will need to sell anyway because we should stay up quite comfortably. Then it’s a case of tweaking a youthful squad and our outlay next season and also in season 3 will be minimal. This squad is built to last.

Sifnos, Milos or Ikaria would be my Greek island recommendations.
Ikaria with two young kids? Madness (for those who don't know it, the islanders are lovely, but totally crazy people who tend to sleep during most of the day and stay up all night; they have the largest percentage of people living more than 100 years in the entire country).

The Greek’s don’t want your sort of riff raff off the beaten track. Stick to Faliraki mate 🤣

It depends on what you are looking for. Off the beaten track can mean anything from a little island south of Crete where you'd have nothing to do but swim half nude, to a glorious mountainous area in Epirus in western Greece. I suppose two young kids mean that you will not opt for such extremes. My suggestion would be to avoid the obvious tourist traps and choose an island or a region with enough diversity to offer you a number of different choices. Even in touristy places like Crete there are many places and activities off the beaten track.

We should continue this on another topic I suppose, preferably when I get back (internet here is really dodgy).
Out of interest. The swimming half nude stuff, so pretty young girls like the olympiacos ladies water polo also swim half nude as well? Not just middle aged men?

GREAT PLAYER
Not what my mate inadvertently told his Dad on a plane journey back from Majorca a couple of years ago.

He didn't recognise his Dad as Andy Rhodes who was reading a transfer article on him whilst my mate was sat next to him. I let him proceed to tell Andy how shit his son was for 5 minutes before finally putting him out his misery and telling him.

Fortunately Andy saw the funny side, especially as my mate was mortified haha

Yeah, I wasn't really approaching it from a young kids point of view. Although when we went my brother in law's kid was 7 months and everyone still had a fun time...

The islanders are mental though. They do genuinely work to their own pace. Which isn't quick 😂

I absolutely loved Rhodes.

Dalaman in Turkey in September, for me and the child, for next year we are looking at maybe Kos or Crete though.

Fancied Greek island hopping for decades now. Adore Greek food, our favourite restaurant is Yamas in town and the islands just look perfect.

However since I've had kids I always get drawn in by the cheap AI deals in Turkey & Spain. We're always drawn to the bigger hotels with loads to do and they're always that much pricier in Greece.

I think I might look to AirBnb for a villa in Rhodes next summer.

how expensive would be island hopping?

God knows but more than I can afford right now.

From those that I know who have done it it's fantastic.

Guess you've got the choice of going on a cruise that takes a few islands in (v expensive), using a tour company (also v expensive) or booking cheap flights/boats & accomodation on a DIY itinerary ( much cheaper)

I've visited Pireas (thence to Athens), Crete, Corfu and Rhodes a few times. I like Rhodes old town. I've not been to Greece for many, many years but would like to go back sometime. Trouble is, in all the times I've been there it's been on a Pusser's big grey war canoe. The last time I was there we stopped off at Kythira where we laid a wreath over the wreck of the WWII cruiser HMS Gloucester. Managed to get a boat ashore for a couple of hours and scuppered a few wets in one of the beach-front bars in Kapsali Bay, after taking a nice walk up the hill to visit the ruined Chora Castle.

I’m doing Athens, Mykonos and Crete in September. All the tourist traps, so no half nude swimming for me
Crete is great. It's large enough to have places still unspoiled by mass, all-inclusive tourism (mostly limited to the north coast). There still are lovely beaches in the south and glorious mountains and real villages in the middle, for those with a car. And it's a trekker's paradise. There are many tourist groups that come only for the barren mountain paths and the gorges.

I have never been to Mykonos, nor do I wish to.
