Beyond the team named above, I think Hennessy, Mbe Soh, Cook, Richards, Yates, Mighten, Surridge are all excellent back-up and I’d be comfortable with most as starters. A bit more pace in the squad would be very welcome, which is what they seem to be looking for with Bowler, MGW etc. but it looks to me that we’ve already got a decent squad of around 20.
One or two extra are needed, if I'm completely honest. Forget MGW at £30m - ridiculous money on someone that might not even start. Forget Moreno at £20m as well given we have two LWB that we've bought this summer!

Bowler for the Mighten role and Dennis/Davies as the third CF and I'd be happy .. actually, very happy! There's always another loan and January

Think we could do with an additional centre midfielder, but otherwise I agree.

I'm not sure spending the best part of £50m on MGW and Moreno would be particularly smart at this stage.

Bowler, Dennis and that Stach fellow would do just fine for now IMO.

I'm sure that Liverpool weren't worried about Garry Birtles either. And they definitely weren't concerned about the goal threat that was Colin Barrett.

Who cares? If they don't know about Surridge's striking ability and give him a little extra room? Or allow Mighten just too much space to get the cross in for Brennan or Taiwo? We will go under the radar of many.

We're not playing Dog and Duck FC on Saturday and its not the 70s. These clubs (Forest included) have a whole team of professionals whose sole job is to analyse the upcoming opponents. I highly doubt they'll have no clue that Surridge likes to cut in onto his right foot and bend one or that Mighten likes to dribble into a cul-de-sac.

Maybe we should start the u18s then on Saturday for the unknown quality they'll bring. Trippier will have absolutely no answer for the completely unseen skills of Kyle McAdam.

Richards and arguably Yates are first teamers anyway when fit but I must say I'm surprised at the others. Mbe Soh and Mighten in particular couldn't get near the team when we were in the Championship...

If we're going to be pedantic (which apparently we are), both Mighten and Mbe Soh were in matchdays squads when fit last season, so "couldn't get near the team" is clearly wrong

How many starts for either of them?

They weren't trusted to do a job last season by Cooper and were on the bench as we had nobody else. I think in Mbe Sohs case he wasn't even on the bench.

I know football fans are generally guilty of over-egging their own but I've had to challenge some real clangers today. The Notts game should've been enough evidence but clearly not. Mbe Soh, Mighten, Ojeda etc may turn out to be decent players but there's a reason why at the moment they haven't started many games for us. Now we're at a higher level how are we all of a sudden expecting these players to regularly impact games when they've never done it before? It's madness.

I think as well, although not confirmed officially we have Scarpa on the way at the latest in January for the AM/LW/RW role, whether his club will be persuaded to let him go a bit earlier by the end of August if they go out of the copa libertadores (Quarter final legs this week and next) but he could definitely add to the squad now or in Jan.

Brandon Aguilera Zamora may also have enough points for a work permit once he has completed he is back from loan after the World Cup. Both he and Scarpa could give us more options from January onwards.

I still think zink would have been good to bring in for the money involved. Would have given us more depth and options. Bowler or Wallace should have been done also as further coverage and would have cost £5m in bowler’s case and free in Wallace’s. Far better back up / squad players than Cafu / mighten.
I think both Zinks and Wallace will have wanted to be starters at the stages they are at in their careers, which Forest couldn't really guarantee.

I think younger players like Bowler, who we can develop and probably won't demand to be in the starting XI straight off the bat, are a much better bet IMO.

Just do what I used to do on management games. Just lie to them🤣

Seriously though you could be right but I can’t get my head around a player like Wallace especially not wanting to chance his arm in the premier league. Give him the chance to nail down a spot, he may not but not to try!

I think Wallace might have thought that he'd have more chance of becoming a Premier League regular if he is an established figure in a promoted team rather than coming here and being a bit part player. I mean, if he was at Forest this season he'd never be starting ahead of the likes of Lingard or Johnson in a million years.

Don't think initial fee for MGW will be £30m, may well be in the very long run, if we stay up, he plays a lot of games, becomes an England International etc. I don't think Moreno will be £20m nearer a third of that. Seems like a lot of money but even with what we have spent this summer we are way behind the investment EPL clubs have made. If we don't spend that sort of money we will be relegated.

I know we are not done yet and need more cover but I am pretty excited with the team we will be putting out against Newcastle (even if they do need time to gel)...
I think the club has done incredibly well so far this summer. I am hopeful that the side we put out against Newcastle on Saturday will do us proud and give them a good game, regardless of the result.

Is it wrong that I'm not banking on Scarpa contributing anything? He feels like another one that will join our zero appearances club but be sold on within a year for a bigger fee than we paid for him...

It's a tough one to call. He's clearly a good player and has a good pedigree, but the Premier League is a very different beast compared to what he is used to. I do think he'll play for us (assuming he signs), but whether he'll contribute anything is anyone's guess.

I think we're still a really unproven commodity. A lot of people are writing a number of our players from last season off as not good enough for the Prem, even if they've at least earned a crack at it - and those same people are generally hyping up all our new signings even though, with the exception of Lingard and Henderson, they're equally as unproven at this level.
Not really, noone has written off Worrall, McKenna, Yates or Surridge they should all get a fair crack and be decent enough, it's the likes of Mighten, Laryea, Soh etc who we are concerned about as our bench is almost untested in the championship nevermind the prem. We lost 6 starters from our squad last season, and 3 decent backups we needed 10 players just to break even. Had we signed 10 players still had Garner, Zinc, Lowe, Grabban, Davis, Spence etc on the bench most people would be happy with the starting 11 and 7 on the bench.

Absolutely this. We're not competing against the top 6 teams its the bottom 6 we have to worry about. And I don’t see a lot if difference there. At the moment we don't know how so many new players will bed in, but we're at least on a par with a third of the Prem and we've got Steve Cooper not Fat Frank, Parker, or salty Silva. I'd rather be in our shoes right now.
I think we should be looking to compete with the bottom 14 then... we have higher expectations than bottom 6. Whilst i'd take 17th now, it's a bit risky having such low expectations as just competing with the bottom 6.

I am watching coverage of the DFB Cup on Sky Sport DE, and Forest just got a mention, because one of tonights‘ matches sees 1. FC Union Berlin travelling to Chemnitzer FC of the Regionalliga Nordost, and there are several Union fans who are unhappy because Forest have poached their star-striker, Taiwo Awoniyi!

He certainly doesn't sound like a player that'll quickly leave us without a trace...

Yeah we are almost at the point where we won’t have anyone else in by Sat aswell, so just need to relish this first game and hope for more good than bad.

Imagine realistically tomorrow is the last day we will be able to have a bid accepted for someone to sign in time for Sat, given the 2 day pattern we’ve seen for medical and media meetings (assuming Cooper will want them in at least 1 session pre-match)

That's not to say that we shouldn't look to strengthen. We should always be looking to do that.

I agree I think teams underestimated Sheff Utd and Leeds when they got promoted and both finished top half in their first season I believe. With, on paper, unproven players
