He was also into double figures for assists. His numbers are pretty much identical to BJ, how much do you value him at?

Assume you're the same Marshall from Vital who was unfailingly negative about everything?
yeah , because i am not impressed , i must be negative. wow. we'll see how it goes , we have plenty of positions to fill and only so much time before the season starts. if mgw signs , fine. if not , not too bothered. i trust dane and his crew to get our transfer business done well.

Lol thought so.

He's 22, was into double figures for goals and assists. Who would impress you then?

Notice you didn't put a value on BJ, who has a year less left on his contract. Care to?

why would i , bj is our player and he's staying. do you really believe that he'll be leaving ? are you so desperate for bj to leave ?

Because they're comparable ages (BJ is a year younger but MGW has longer on his contract and PL experience) and had near identical seasons in terms of output.

So it's not unreasonable to think they have a similar value.

Why would I want him to leave? You've never been capable of putting together a coherent argument, you just love moaning.

it's not comparable at all , bj is a key first team starter , mgw is not for wolves,

you are the one trying to start an pointless argument. Like i say , i leave it to dane and crew , peace out.

It's completely comparable, in pretty much every department.

If we sold Brennan for the amount you are saying we are paying too much for MGW you would be first to be complaining about it.

All him not being a starter at Wolves (at the minute) does is make him avalible for transfer for the likes of us. If his contract was longer there wouldn't even be a discussion and he would be in Wolves' team.

Also still waiting for the alternative which is better and cheaper.

MGW is worth whatever people are willing to pay for him, regardless of whether Wolves want him or not. As a young standout player in the Championship, he'll probably be sold for £20m+, which is the going rate for the top young players in that league (which MGW most certainly is).

Marshall is Marshall, he was famous on Vital for this. Just grumbles about everything, won't answer questions, won't suggest alternatives etc just likes to criticise everything.

I like the sound of most of the players we’ve been linked with but I’m beginning to be a bit anxious about the price tags being talked about. we’ve apparently spent close to 20 million for a striker which is fine, but by my guesstimate we need a minimum of eight more signings and if we have to pay anything like that figure, we’re going to need another 150 million or so. All of this before wages and increased contracts etc. Marionakis is rich but is he that rich.

I'm betting that we come up with at least one transfer totally out of the blue that no-one had even mooted as a rumour.
Hmm so the question is what random player do I punt on, start a baseless rumour and look like a genius when he’s signed.

In completely unrelated news I’ve heard from a source we’re after Aaron Hickey from Bologna...

Anyone else of the opinion we’ve missed a bit of a trick in not signing the likes of Bowler,Twine,Wallace and Rothwell and loan them back to the championship as insurance in case the worst happens and we end up back in the championship?

Why on earth would a player come to us knowing that we don't actually want them whilst we're in the PL, knowing they're only here to go out on loan as a back-up just in case we get relegated?

We need to use our financial resources wisely. We have to replace the five loanees and add strength in depth with all the players coming in being available for the first-team squad. That's where our money should go, not to lower quality players who aren't going to play but are solely on the books 'just in case'.

Apart from the odd loan like Henderson, none of the players we bring in are going to be on one-year deals. Anybody that does come will be on 3, 4 or 5 year contracts. If the worst does happen and we do get relegated they'll be available for the Championship and another go at getting back up. Maybe one or two would want away but we wouldn't be forced to sell them all and the ones we did sell would still bring in a pretty penny, and we'd also have the parachute payments. We'd be able to afford to hoover up some of the better Championship talent available and we'd also still be able to use the loan market.

If bringing in players as an insurance policy against relegation was a good idea all clubs would be doing it. It isn't and they don't. Clubs don't want it and I doubt players want it either. If we did that, as a PL club we'd have to pay them PL wages. It's basically building an expensive bomb squad that we'd struggle to get off our books. We already know how damaging that has been to the club over so many years.

Snaffling up dozens of players not intended for the team and just sending them out on loan was a model Chelsea used. FIFA have moved to stop that.

Exactly

Quite why some people would think any company (let alone a football club who are limited in resources and need to spend wisely) would hire employees who they don't have any use for, and who aren't good enough for their current tasks, is relatively staggering.

If we are in the PL, we need to buy for the PL.

As you correctly say the parachute payments and need to build for the championship and promotion would mean we didn't need to buy a whole new team if we did get relegated, and sales from any players such as Johnson and Worrall would be enough to ensure we could afford it anyway.

I know that Nuno that I know that Nuno that I know
And we already have fringe players (Mighten, Ojeda etc) and U23 hopefuls that we will probably loan out to gain game time and experience .

I’ve got no problem with most of the players we’ve been linked with, and hopefully we manage to get them in. The position that worries me most is the James Garner shaped hole in the middle. Him coming back would be my favourite signing of all but I can’t see it sadly.

Who says we don’t want them. If they’re good enough they’ll make our first team squad,if they’re not they get a chance to go out on loan, develop and get experience at a higher level.

If we're just buying them to loan out as insurance in the event we get relegated, which is the specific point you were making, then clearly that's not to bring them in for the PL. If we wanted them for the PL I'm sure we'd have bid for them. If we've bid for them and they don't want to come then it's a moot point, they're not coming. If we need players for the Championship then get them in when we're in the EFL.

Well I thought Rafik Djebbour was going to be a star here, so incredible to be linked to the players we are now haha.

I get what people are saying about buying players to loan out but I would prefer us just to buy players now that we think that can make the step up, then if they can't they should be more than good enough for the Championship.

You are just eating away the budget that is needed for this year really.
