Dane’s plan is to sign all 3 - he’s seen the £ signs from the profit to be made from names on backs of shirts.
Someone tell him that the shop‘s record of maintaining correct stocks of individual letters in order to cater for demand is not good 🤦‍♂️
Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink is apparently coming out of retirement as a backup striker too.

Joking aside, last time I looked at the players' names on shirts it seemed the club shop was charging the same irrespective of how many letters/numbers there was on it.

I’m anticipating a lot more ambition from the Forest hierarchy than say Norwich showed and the early signs are great. But take last season for example all our loan signings have gone back to their respective clubs and we’ve enhanced their value massively. We’ve put conservatively £10M on Djed, £5M on Garner and Davis. All I’m saying is we haven’t been as attractive a proposition for young talent for a long time and we should make the most of it while we are a draw, loan those out to enhance their reputations and either they become good enough to play for us in the Prem or we cash in/play them if we don’t stay up.
Thing is those players aren't actually super young:

Twine 23
Wallace 28
Rothwell 27
Bowler 23

Add another year on even if we get relegated this season, more if we don't.

Financially its probably the difference between signing another 15m player for this season or not. While we have cash, we're not bank rolled by a state or a billionaire.

I'd be happy to gamble on young players like MGW, the lad from Valencia etc who could make an impact now.

That was all Assombalonga's fault

But we do already have plenty of young players.

Johnson is just 21
Yates and Worrall are 25/26
McKenna is a similar age
Surridge is 23

From last season's loans Spence and Garner are both 21.

We need to not repeat the mistake of a few years back where we signed older players such as Colback (who I know was good for us last year), Arter, Taylor, Blackett who were all late-20s or early-30s and whilst experienced the resale value and performance potential is going down not up.

What we don't really need is mid-20s players who have little experience at Championship or higher level as they have less potential to make the step up.

Anyone else of the opinion we’ve missed a bit of a trick in not signing the likes of Bowler,Twine,Wallace and Rothwell and loan them back to the championship as insurance in case the worst happens and we end up back in the championship?
I wouldn’t even loan them back. I have said before I think Wallace would have been a good free, a good bench option at least. Rothwell a decent squad player too, it is ok saying we are aiming for better but we still need numbers and you can’t spend £10-£15m on every player we pick up, often better means that. Or you go for twine and hope he develops but obviously a big step up. Still a good young player to have around. I’d take bowler as well, good calibre, looks dangerous on the ball, could prove himself higher and again with 5 subs could be a useful addition on the bench and isn’t gonna cost more than £3m.

We are incredibly short as it stands, I do trust the club and I don’t know what the thinking / policy now is. But I hope we don’t regret not going for some of these players.

not counting rothwell and wallace , twine and bowler is only 23. mgw is 22 . twine ,23 scored 20 goals in lg 1 , 3m , not good enough for forest , josh bowler ,23 , scored 7 goals , linked with 1m bid from bournemouth , not good enough for forest , zian flemming ,23 , scored 12 goals in the dutch premier league , 2m , not good enough for forest but MGW , 23 , scored 11 goals in the championship , will cost most likely 25m , buy buy buy. What have you got against MGW Marshall 😀

i wasn't that impressed by him tbh in the semi final , same with berge. His price tag is way too much imo.
I'm not hugely convinced either. On the plus side he was one of their better players last season as well as being young and known to Cooper.

He actually played 26 for Wolves in their season after going up, which is more PL experience than I'd thought he had. Guessing after he helped them consolidate they bought better.

I'd say if Cooper and Murphy want him, then they think he is a good fit. If he can replace PZ in the 10 role or be a foil for Brennan on the opposite side it's a good deal.

Not to mention not wanting somebody because of how they played against you is a bizarre outlook anyway (especially when he actually played very well). What about the other games?

I don't think MGW quality is disputable to be honest. He was head & shoulders the best player in that Sheff Utd side last year, and was as good as Johnson over the season. He literally dragged Sheff Utd towards the playoffs when they had no attacking players.

People are being so picky, if you want quality you are going to have to pay for it. And I would like to hear these alternatives for a cheaper price who are clear upgrades on MGW.

This. If people judged Brennan based on how he played in the final he’d be worth about £1mill!

Marshall, make your opinion after giving this a watch

Look at who he is picked ahead of for England U21s.

There is a reason why he is so highly rated.

I just think if I could pick one player to sign this window it would be him.

MGW is an excellent player who would walk into our starting XI. One of the best players in the Championship last season, Sheffield United would have gotten nowhere near the top 6 without him. Quite surprised anyone on here would turn their nose up at the chance to sign him.

MGW was arguably Sheff U's best player last year. How many loans win player of the season? Not many at all.

I get the concerns if he'll be up to Prem standard yet, but with what Cooper bought out of Yates, Garner & Johnson etc. I think that magic touch will see MGW do fine if he signs for us.

You have to ask why there is a big price difference. These numbers aren’t just arbitrarily picked by teams. They know the players’ worth based on his ability.

Gibbs White is significantly better in so many aspects of the game that you won’t see on a match report (passing, pressing, positioning, control). And even some that are, like assists. Had more than Bowler and Zion put together

Twine - I am not aware there was any firm interest in him this summer, it seems to have been a hangover link from January. But I am not sure there are many examples of League One players stepping up to Premier League level outside of Dele Ali?
Bowler - Didn't we reportedly bid £3m for him in January and he turned us down? Seems odd he is being touted about for only a million now. He had a good year last year, but the rest of it was pretty none-descript.
Flemming - We bid for him last summer, his club wanted more, we moved on.

Not sure how any of those three situations relate to MGW though. MGW played very well at Swansea, was arguably one of the best players in the league at Sheff United. He been highly thought of every since coming through at Wolves considering he has been through the England setups since under 17 level.

I also thought we had moved on from judging players based on box scores...

Collymore!

Thankyou Steve!
I think it’s good we’ve moved on from our championship targets. Yes, we will also need bodies, but the players mentioned don’t all come free.

We had a £3m bid for Bowler turned down, so £4-5m (?) seems steep for a player to make up the numbers.

Priorities must be our starting XI and fill the players who will cost £15m asap. Then look at squad players later, maybe picking up some “frees”.

Most of those players wouldn’t have enhanced us next season, they’d merely have been unproven players coming off the bench… might as well bring on players like Mighten who deserves his shot.

He was also into double figures for assists. His numbers are pretty much identical to BJ, how much do you value him at?

Assume you're the same Marshall from Vital who was unfailingly negative about everything?
