How much did the likes of Lens spend on a GK these days? Genuine question - while I think he's worth it, I assumed transfer home meant in the hundreds of thousands.

Edit: seems I'm way off the mark and french teams do splash cash.

Something missing in the links so far is a set piece specialist. Garner was very good last year but we might even need better than that.

Was Gibbs White good enough on them?

But I don’t see the Garner option going away, even if they will definitely not sell him (I think they will be open to it), what’s to stop us buying him for £5m, and Man Utd having a £5m buy back clause.

Would it not cause issues with his contract?

Man Utd might forget to buy him back as well, they seem totally inept at stuff like that!

Set pieces are going to be a huge factor in whether or not we stay up.

Norwich 3, and Watford 6 last year basically sealed their fate.

You don’t get many of the weaker sides avoiding the drop unless they can steal 10 or so goals from set pieces.

Man City always concede the least from set pieces almost every year - and that's why they win the league. They only conceded 1 all season last year (and scored 22) which tells you their success isn't just about pretty passing and posession.

I get a bit confused with all these odd foreign names bandied about.

Indeed, lots of names, but only a few actual positions on the field, whereas we need lots of players everywhere.

There must be a lot of searches going under the radar at the moment waiting to burst forth.

CM and both full back positions are surely being looked at as a priority now. I think if we sign 1 CM and 2 full backs we could actually put a decent side out. Then it's just a case of depth being added.

The CM position intrigues me, we have seen no proper links yet.

Same with LWB.

I am sure things can happen very quickly, when we were first linked with Henderson it was out of nowhere and the deal was basically done after 6 hours (despite it dragging on a bit now - he's always been signing for us)

Hopefully once we sort out the spine of the team - keeper sorted, striker sorted, hopefully the Maine defender moussa can be sorted, then a midfield general - Orel ? Then maybe a no.10 - aribo ? And finally a rwb,lwb ,then left to fill the squad for depth, maybe the best from the championship or below that could step up.

I'd like us to sign another utility player like Colback, who can step in and cover various positions in case of injury.

Someone like James Perch from back in the day would be useful (Perch signed for Newcastle for £1m and played 3 consecutive seasons in the Premier League)

Callum styles who started for Hungary in that match against England can play lwb and central midfield but unlike colback, styles is more attacking. Doubt he'll cost that much.

True but little boys who just got relegated to League 1 tend to not be that expensive in general.

Don't think Styles really has the X-factor for a PL side tbh

Styles won't be a starter but could make a good backup sub like colback. Don't need a squad player to have that x-factor , need them to be decent and for depth

Styles would have been OK for Championship but we need to attract better now.

How did we manage to get Awoniyi?!?! Why did his club let him go? Did they need the money?

Looks like a great signing:)

I think we met his release clause for a PL club

Personally I think our approach to recruitment so far has been refreshing. We will definitely be shiny new to the PL, I doubt we will sign many with that much Prem experience and not many will know hardly any of our players. Just go for it and back our own recruitment methods. No time for sentiment.

Now that Rothwell and Wallace are no longer available (and it seems like we weren't interested,) who do we think the club is looking at to plug the gaping holes in the squad? I find it hard to believe we're gonna be splashing the cash for the subs, especially since so much investment is needed in the starting-11.

We need to take note re Brennan.
I suspect it was a kick in the knackers for the Berlin club to loose him but this is what happens if you include clauses like this. All it takes is a text from the agent to a club and a link to a video clip of the lad and the hare is on the move...
