How many teams have had a mare up until Jan and then signed the players necessary to keep them up? Genuine question as I have no idea

Me either when it comes to numbers, but look at the likes of what WBA did when they were bottom then stayed up.

I don't think any club in our position signs every player it wants in 1 window. We need to be realistic.

I do think we need to be realistic,Alf-but unless genuine quality players are brought in during this window
the outcome is inevitable.
I can see no point burying our heads in the sand-we have spent 23 long years out of the top flight and
we need to take this chance to rebuild the club-otherwise it may be another long wait before we visit this
level again.
I'm quietly confident good players will arrive by August-let's hope Steve Cooper can weld them into a
competitive team in what is sure to be a ferocious competition.

I don't think the 5 sub rule will change too much outside of the top teams who have world class players on their bench. Any team that changes half its starting XI during a match is pretty much throwing anything resembling a game plan out of the window. Making so many changes probably does more harm than good to a sides cause IMO.

The 5 sub rule has completely changed game management on all levels. You really need to have 5 players ready to get in and do things in every single game. Especially up front it's a no-brainer: the intensity of the game allows managers to routinely change most of their attacking players in order to maintain intensity until the whistle is blown.

I wonder if the 5 sub rule will just result in more shithouse tactics to slow the game down.

Certainly the more players we get in the summer the better, as we need to make as good a start as possible while we still have a surprise factor. If we get to January and we’re really struggling, we’ll be faced with selling wantaway players rather than new signings

On another topic, I still think Colback and Lolley have a lot to offer

That was because they got rid of the Ginger Mourinho though

The thing that keeps fans going is hope.

Hope that you will win your next game, hope that your team will win promotion before you die, hope that you can get a ticket when you team gets to the Cup Final.

Just to give up and think we're going straight back down is wrong; banish those thoughts. We'll have a great team and stay up this season, don't worry.

Lose our first 5? Who cares.

We are still gonna win the league, last season proved that.

Arsenal lost their first 3 games last season. Brentford, Chelsea, Man City.

They finished 5th in the end and weren't far off 4th for the Champions League places.

We beat them in the FA Cup. If we truly believe and bring in the right players, nothing is impossible.

I hope we go all out in the cups tbh. I mean I said it then and I will always f'in say it lol:

If damn Wigan can win an FA cup anybody can!

I think history suggests that it's more likely a promoted team starts well due to momentum and novelty then falls rather than starting badly and clawing it back.

If I remember correctly there are only 3 teams that have been bottom at Christmas and survived.

A good start is crucial, first 5 games are tough but if we can take 5/6 points then really go for it in September with perhaps 6/7 points that would be brilliant.

Me too. It is actually not difficult for a decent premier league team to suddenly end up in a league cup semi without playing anyone significant. Then you never know.

We went all out in the cups this year with more league games to fit in than we do this year, and really the prize we won at Wembley will dwarf anything we do this year.

So we'll almost certainly go all out in the cups again. Forest to win the league cup at 66/1 currently...

Like everyone else I've been getting a bit antsy over the apparent lack of signings thus far but a quick look around has soothed my nerves a tad as there really aren't many moves coming off at the moment - a bit like my record at house parties, lots of talk but very little in the way of action.

There are obviously so many moving parts to every deal and lets face it we need lots of signings so its going to be frustrating .... I'm sure they are on their way.

It really pisses me off when PL clubs don't bother with the FA Cup particularly. There's absolutely no reason why a side like Brighton, Newcastle, Villa or Wolves can't get to the final at least but they mostly just use it as an opportunity to give squad members some game time. I can understand why a club battling relegation might not be focused on the cup but those clubs above will finish between 8th and 13th most likely.

Perhaps with 9 subs and 5 coming on now there'll be less need to do that in future...
