I'm not saying that we don't have other areas we need to address, especially when it comes to squad depth, but if you'd had said to me what's the 2 essential signings we need to make to keep us up I'd have said Keeper & Striker (sorry peeps, like Samba but never felt he was Prem calibre).

The fact we've already addressed this with a quality keeper in Hendo, and what looks to be a quality forward in T&A is frankly fantastic.

I'm sure there's plenty more to happen yet but we're staying up lads. Again, much like last year, we're making all the right moves.

Could be Da Costa?

I doubt it'll be Taylor, I reckon he'll go to a Championship club.
I forgot Da Costa is still your player. Taylor fits the profile better, since they're looking for a replacement for Aboubakar Kamara (whom we're getting from them).

Perhaps, but I don't see Taylor wanting to move abroad. He's very much a London boy and turned down Sunderland when he was playing in League One with Charlton because he didn't want to move too far up north.

Is that the former Fulham guy?

I always liked him as a player, complete lunatic though & a bit of a wrongen. But he has unbelievable physicality.

Yes. Technically he's still a Fulham player. Aris had supposedly bought him, but it turned out to be a strange arrangement, by which they paid yearly installments and Fulham retained the right to buy him back. Between a loan and a purchase.

Funny that. Anyway, you'll never be able to say "I told you so".

Of all the keepers in the Championship he actually plays far more like a "Prem calibre" keeper than any of the others. Great on the ball and doesn't concede many, very few errors. :D

f*** me we could be signing Thibaut Courtois and some people would be pining for Samba to start the season in goal.

I’m glad the board have more ambition than the fan base.
There are also some who will slate any players who is not from these isles. Or even miss the facts, we had one of the best keepers in the Championship, if not the best, last season. They can't bring themselves to admit it because they've spent all the time slagging them off.

I'm pleased we're getting Henderson in. At the same time it's a shame we'll be paying huge wages out for a position that didn't need fixing anywhere near as much as many of the others.

I’m not sure insinuating members of this forum or fan base of disliking players due to being foreign is the way to go.

Samba was good in the championship and was a hero in the play offs, we’re now in the premier league and need better.

We are currently the worst team in the league and are in zero position to refuse a player who’s an upgrade irrespective of who they’re replacing.

If Cooper and Dane agree it doesn’t break the bank and doesn’t stop us bringing in other targets I couldn’t give a toss.

Yep, too much sentiment with Samba and one or two others. I also think some have bought into Samba's recent PR charm offensive now he realises he's burnt his bridges a bit, training with Moussi with his forest top on etc.

Yep. I like Samba and I'm sorry to see him go, but taking sentiment out of it you'd have to be mad to choose Samba over Henderson.

I saw some prat online getting upset over us signing Awoniyi and that we should be splashing £15m on Davis as well; as much as I like Keinan, anyone who would choose him over someone who has scored 20 goals for a Bundesliga side and was on the radar of the likes of Dortmund and Leipzig are clueless.

There's no room for sentiment in football. The club knows what they are doing, people need to have more faith.

Agree. Samba said he wanted to go, and leaked it to the press. Spence has said he wants to leave for Tottenham. Zinc appears to have chosen Oly. Garner wants to try his luck at United.

I want continuity if possible but it works both ways, and the club has to look after its future.

I do want the core of the back 3, Yates, Colback, Johnson and Surridge to stick around though, and ideally we sign Davies and Garner.

To be honest, I'm not really 100% convinced by it either. But then, the club knows more about the situation with Samba, and what the options are.

In terms of his ability to do his job as a goalkeeper, there is really no doubt in my mind that Samba is good enough for the PL.

And off the face of that alone, there is absolutely no reason why we should want to replace him, Secondly I think Horvath is still adequate backup, just about.

But there are a few issues which make that situation somewhat more complex.

There is of course first off the situation that Samba is a year out of contract so could talk to other clubs to leave for nothing potentially in Jan.

If he doesn't want to stay, for financial or other reasons, then I really don't see the club has a choice but to let him leave and cash in.

So probably this has come from that, because it really isn't a higher-priority position to replace if there was only the factor of the existing player being good enough to think about.

At present we have no real wing backs, a striker who is totally unproven, and another who is mulling a new deal who is ageing and not necessarily good enough anyway, and are a bit light in CM due to the loan players going back.

Henderson is definitely good enough, and probably an upgrade on Samba, given he had a good season with SU in the PL but has done little since on Man U's bench. But he is only a loan and can't play against MU. Also, we can only now loan another PL player. If he was ours, those last two reservations wouldn't apply. Personally I think he is better than Samba but not by much.

Yup - there's no need for folk to polarise here (on a forum no less - who'd guess that might be a thing?!) - Samba has proven himself a safe pair of hands and a few weeks back you didn't hear many calling for him to be replaced. Henderson is an upgrade but he isn't ours. We are probably better off but only for the time of the loan. It's all inconsequential anyway as Samba apparently wants out.
