Spence was never a serious option for us, he always wanted to go to Spurs from the moment there was interest and why wouldn't he? Boro were happy to carry on his loan with us as they wanted to maximise his value and we paid out the recall option on his loan contract.

When it comes to Garner, I do think we did miss a trick but the second we signed Mangala and O'Brien it wasn't going to happen. Quality wise, he's about the same for them. At the same time though, he wasn't available until late in the window as United were unsure whether to sell him or not. Henderson's loan option meant we were boxed in as well.

As for Keinan, it's six of one, half a dozen of the other. On the one hand, we miss his presence up top and none of the other strikers have his pace/power combination. But he's also f***ing brittle and £15m for him to quote Bottom "wasn't just steep, it was f***ing vertical". Villa wanted that desperate because you just got promoted kind of money for him.

Now in terms of who else we brought in, I think Lingard is the one we've f**ked up on but even then, it's a short term f*** up. He's brought a lot of extra attention to the club because of his name and he's on very good money but he's not done anything so far. Thing is when it comes to Jesse, if he has a shit season with us, he's out of contract and who is actually going to want him if he's finished? I wouldn't mind him using us to get a bigger move if he replicated his West Ham form this season.

In terms of individuals, we've bought well. In terms of a team, I think we've shit the bed.
We needed 2 Niakhate type players that’s the problem. Cooper has to get the team running more no matter what. Running 7km against Leicester was piss poor.

Pressing game is non existent because that’s re not running. So next game play the diamond and play OBrien, Yates, mangala and MGW and tell them to put a shift in.

Would have been nice to get Davis in but we are comparing Taiwo against Prem defenders to Keinan against Championship ones.

We need 3 new CD’s, at least 2 new proven strikers and cover at RWB. 😂
And Scarpa on free kicks and corners
This was sent as the transfer window came to an end at start of Sept. It was meant to be a bit tongue in cheek after buying 22 players, but sadly it’s come true. I do remember feeling all along we were completely lacking the right kind of striker needed, but by then we were all a bit high on the incoming transfers and expecting too much from the ones we had.

Think we might need something more than Brereton. We’ve got to go big on one striker that can really make a difference and work on scraps in this league - if we can attract one that is

January window isn't that easy unfortunately, availability is minimal and even if we can tempt a more 'proven' CF the asking price in a January window will be obscene. Especially now we have the title of being big spending Nottingham Forest and the fact everyone can tell we're crying out for a centre forward

Tempting Brereton away from the division below is possible, would mean battling off Crystal Palace though

Was thinking about him the other day. I’m still not convinced he’s the answer, especially at the price, but he would be a good asset if do go back down and will retain value if he keeps playing for Chile.

So it has some merits.

I am thinking a winger (bowler? or better) & a real pain in the arse striker to compete with Taiwo. There is a big difference between when Taiwo plays and when he doesn't for us - especially at home.

Not sure Chris Wood would be the answer but he is a useful pain in the arse. We definitely need that vocal point though.

We need to start some form of coordinated campaign to get Djed back. We really miss his interplay with Johnson and Neco offers nothing other than joy to Liverpool fans

Djed is a red.

Both Spence and Williams were outstanding in the Championship last season but only one of them has played regular Premier League football this season.

This mean Spence is still an unknown quantity at this level. Also, as RedRobbo is probably alluding to above, if Djed goes on driving runs in a back 4, it could leave huge spaces behind for world class players to exploit.

I'm not sure he's the answer. Plus, Aurier is far more experienced and is doing a magnificent job at the moment.

i said this nearly a year ago, i wasnt far off the mark! :p

Villa fan just coming back to say congrats on staying up, i was rooting for you today, great to have more midlands teams representation in the PL, we need it, its been too London/South dominated for too long.

Watching you guys a bit this season, MGW and Johnson look PL quality for sure, two very pacey, skilful and direct players, exactly what you need to cause other teams trouble.

I think with 3-4 quality signings in the summer you will be in a good spot, and luckily you cleverly only gave Lingard a 12 month contract, so you can get his wages off your books easily at least!

Anyways, congrats, great to see Forest back where they belong (and staying there).

What i will say, is dont get too carried away.

I remember when Villa came back up 3 years ago and we signed a lot of players, a lot of us wrongly (very wrongly) believed we could go for top half and give all the teams outside the top 4 a run for their money, unfortunately we were nowhere near and survived by the skin of our teeth, it was a brutal season.

I know Villa arent Forest, and i think on face value your promotion transfer window looks better than ours did so far, in hindsight.

One thing i have definitely noticed since we came back up, is every game is a fight, even the mid table teams are a real challenge, any of them on their day can cause problems for most other teams in the league.

I hope you do well, from a neutral perspective i think your business is very good, which i hope plays out on the pitch for you, but honestly, no way will you be able to go toe to toe with every team outside the top 4, yeah you may win some and lose some, but also be realistic, the PL is tough as nails, tbh i think its tougher than its ever been, its not even a "big 4" now, tbh its a "big 6", then a few teams squabbling over 7th to 10th.

That aside, i think you will either stay up due to a number of very intelligent signings (this is my belief - looking at what you have done so far, and if the intelligent purchases continue), or, even if you do go down, i think enough of your signings will prove good enough to be a really, really strong team to bounce straight back.

Dont take what i say negatively, im just trying to be realistic (in a way Villa most fans werent when we came back up lol), i do think you have a great chance of staying up.

Thanks mate. I think you pretty much called it spot on. If we can be where Villa find themselves now in a couple of years I'll be delighted.

Fingers crossed you qualify for Europe this season. What a job Emery has done!

I'd love for us to kick the tires on Sergino Dest - Barca needs money - do a season loan. He has talent and is young - I wonder if Cooper couldn't work some magic. He and Williams would be two young dynamic wingbacks on the right side.
Signed, an American. LOL.

Also, if there's any way to sign Timothy Weah, I think he's the cream of the American crop. But I don't see how he'd fit in this side.
