Strikers

I'd compare him with El Junior Krupi at Bournemouth, only 4cm shorter, had a better record than him in Ligue 1.

Same height as one Ian Wright, no way am I saying he's be anything like him in output but in that mould.

Sure this league is very tough and you have be pretty good in some aspect of your play, but no way can you write off a player who's had an average of 10mins a game.

How much would Undav cost, Strummer? P

Would Patrick Schick work in this league (could we afford him lol)?
You’re not having Deniz Undav so forget that, thank you very much. He’s loved in Stuttgart and is thriving. A superbly versatile attacking player he can play all along the front line or in a slightly more withdrawn role. He’s tough, mobile, good with both feet and his head, and he can create as well as score goals.

He did have a shot at the PL with Brighton but that didn’t work out at all (which is why the VfB were able to pick him up so cheaply).

Schick would work anywhere, he’s a goalscorer, but he would be very, very, expensive.

Wood a year older and coming back from a long lay off, love T to bits but he is streaky, and Jesus is wasted leading the line?

I think we do to have options.
I definitely think we should look around, but I don't think it would be in the end of the world if we start next season with our current 4 contracted to the club. You have every different type of striker in there.

For me what is going to make the difference scoring goals is the wingers. Most of the season the striker has been feeding on scraps, doesn't matter who is up top. MGW has changed that recently being out wide & adding goals to our game, I think a winger capable of scoring 10+ goals will be more important than another striker.

Easier said than done of course, but that's where we need more goals from

No European football, how many do we need, 3 plus jesus is more than enough.

I wouldn't even regard Jesus a striker now, a false no 9 at best or off the main CF.

Keep Wood and one of Awoniyi or Kalimoendo plus try to bring in a first choice.

I think it could have been an issue last summer that we didn't get someone because at that stage we were looking for someone to be a backup to Wood and/or to transition to being a replacement in a few years.

With Wood's knee issue, and what he's said in public about this, it is likely we will need a full replacement this summer and probably at best the summer after. There is probably little chance (with the best endeavours from the player) of him being able to play main striker in 38 PL matches next season.

But then, that will make it harder for other reasons as clubs will want to get more off us knowing we are desperate for a striker

Awful lot of people either forget, or easily write off that we have a Kali...…And if we sell him we replace him. Either way that's four strikers. It is the assisters and the goals from other positions that we really require more of.

A super left winger to maybe replace Ndoye if he goes is much more important for me, but I do get the appeal of everyone wanting something new and exciting up front.

Until 35 year old Wood gets injured and Taiwo reverts back to type/gets injured. Then we are left exactly as we were for most of this season with round peg Jesus in a square hole. We absolutely have to find another striker or risk another relegation battle

Jesus isn't a square peg in a round hole. He's a very competent link up striker that needs movement beyond him. We've found a solution recently by going 442 but we could also find a solution by buying wide players that will make runs beyond the defensive line like Elanga used to do for us last season.

I'm boring myself but the problem in our attacking unit for the entire season has been in the wide forward areas, not the central ones.

I've said that for ages too but I do think we should be looking at a proper Wood/Awoniyi replacement as well. It's good to have flexibility with how we play.

I love Jesus and you are right he’s a really good number 10 link up man. But if we are starting games with him as the lone striker and/or relying on Taiwo looking like the April/May beast he shows three times a year rather than him being injured or looking like Jason Lee the rest of the season then we are screwed.

I agree we need more goals from out wide/MGW to stay and carry on his late season goalscoring form. But we will still be struggling if we are relying on Jesus as a number 9.

Others have made the connection but if we used Jesus as a Firmino type player who drops in-between defensive and midfield lines, to then feed on rushing inside forwards in a 4-3-3 set up before joining the attack on the edge of the box then I think that would work really well.

Would need to lose the #10 role entirely so would mean MGW moved to a box to box midfielder, or sold.

I don't like him. He scores but his skill level is so so poor, you can see his teammates get frustrated at times. However he is experienced and wily which I think is a major requirement in a striker in our team. Personally yeah of course I want us to sign a brilliant 20 year old striker to learn from Woody....but that would cost a big chunck of any summer budget. I'd be happier to see that money spent elsewhere, like midfield obviously, also wingers and wide attackers.

Assuming we sell Ando and Ndoye, we'd need to replace them with real quality and potential, likely not just one for one but by signing several players. If we also sold one of Taiwo or Kalimuendo, then maybe I'd be looking for that young striker with potential but the money might be better spent on a cheaper experienced pro who has a decade of learning the flow of games in a top league. Without that type of player up top, we struggle to get our skill players into the game.

Wonder how the new rules will affect out recruitment and other clubs. The Brighton/Brentford model of buy-to-sell will likely become more difficult. That might make it harder for us to sell high value assets, therefore it might be more sensible to buy established players. Who knows.

Im more inclined to sell kalimuendo and get the swansea lad in, strong and is what we need, playing with jesus.

Raised in other chats-Delap has to be in discussion. Good age, prem experience, decent goal record, physical attributes, likely Chelsea will listen to offers. Not perfect but worth considering-if price is decent.
