The first challenge was a free kick though, he played the advantage which ended after a foul inside the box - threshold for contact or whatever bollocks it is this week not high enough? Then call it back for the initial foul.

I could have accepted not getting the pen but not getting the initial free kick was baffling.
Totally agree.
If he's playing an advantage the time between the foul at the edge of the box and Sangaré collapsing in the box is minimal so call it back. We're then at a disadvantage because we've a player down due to a dangerous studs up foul but Madeley plays on.

Makes me think he just didn't see it because studs into calf is a minimum yellow all day long and he doesn't book him. Even if he thought he'd played the advantage he should book Konatè when that phase of play ends.

Just watched Ref Watch and Dermot, as usual, fudged the Jesus handball 'gaol'. Said the VAR could not give definitive verdict so went with onfield decision.

Notwithstanding that neither the ref nor lino could see the incident and the video clearly showed it did not hit his arm below the shirt sleeve. Dermot said VAR were not allowed to send him to the screen to see for himself. Idiots, the lot of them. Clear case of we have the technology but we won't use it.

Is it a true that that was the first time Madley had been given a Liverpool game since an "error against them" in one of their games last year?

Hopefully we submit a complaint about it

Don’t let the refs think they got away with it because we did our job. They need to be made aware that they owe us one
100% we should submit a complaint and ask for a formal apology from Webb, as well as an admittance that it was a terrible mistake borne solely out of his employees' collective incompetence.

The VAR should be suspended for a match or two too- absolutely bewilderingly inept

There'll be comparisons of Liverpool's disallowed goal a couple of weeks ago Vs Murillo's today but they're not the same thing at all.

They Liverpool one was harsh but there was a small chance the attacking player may have tried to put a foot on the header and so there's a small element of doubt in the keepers mind about committing to dive. It's still incredibly harsh but there's some small justification to it.

With the Murillo one, Dominguez is completely irrelevant. The shot is past him before Alison knows what's happening and there is zero chance any goalkeeper in the world saves the shot. You can remove him from the equation entirely and the goal happens exactly the same in 100% of simulations.

But the media will try to draw comparisons for poor old Liverpool.

Dedicated article on it... Quelle surprise

They use an angle of the goal that makes N’Doye appear to be in the keeper’s vision. Cnuts.

Did Ndoye make any movement towards the ball? No
Was the keeper going to save the shot if he wasn't there? Not even close

Case closed.
Would you like to be a Referee?

As you seem to be a little bit more competent than the current bunch of idiots sent out every week, it seems?

Entering the competency discussion and knowing the rules business etc.

It's noteworthy that all the refs who pop up on TV to give their experienced opinion either seem totally unable to give an opinion or fudge their thoughts when they appear to be at variance with the VAR/Onfield ref. Almost as if it would be against the grain to say the lads doing the job are wrong.

Just been listening to the Overlap podcast. Mike Dean was on and he was quite critical of current referees, saying that they are letting VAR make the decisions for them.

I think what Liverpool fans seem to be after is that every marginal decision goes their way. If their goal against City had been given, I still think they would feel ours should have been disallowed.

No deep analysis of the handball disallowed goal though because that went their way.

They basically spent 2 weeks moaning about their decision v city and saying it is wrong. Now they are saying not disallowing our goal is wrong. They basically want a rule where Liverpool get all the decisions which is pretty much what you have now. You literally never hear the end of it on the rare occasion it goes against them.

I think Tim Robinson should stick to opening the batting for Nottinghamshire and England - he's clearly not suited to this refereeing malarkey

Now that Ndoye has been done for standing in front of the keeper, he needs to be a bit more clever about it. Was annoying to see him doing the same thing at later corners.

Not only that but when Varsenal do it that goal should be disallowed too.
