No. I doubt it annorl. I ate 'em wi a pashun!

And that cheating slaphead Shearer got Carl Tiler sent off leaving that conspiracy freak free to run riot. He'd never have got a kick if the Sheffield Bobby Moore had still been on the pitch.

The area around St. Mary's is bit of a dump, not helped by Southampton Solent Uni being close by.

Basset, a suburb not far out of town and where part of Southampton Uni's campus is located is quite smart and upmarket. Eastleigh's quite nondescript but has some decent parts, however Winchester takes some beating even though it has a couple of dodgy areas.

St. Mary's never recovered from WWII when the Luftwaffe got acquainted with the area.

Winchester has no soul anymore. It has turned into an extended London borough and now only caters for tourists. Was a lot different back in the day. The 'dodgy' areas you refer to are probably Stanmore and Highcliffe, both of which have turned into quasi student campus. Claim to infamy: Wayne Bridge was born on Stanmore estate.

I was in Southampton last week.

Okay place. The people are morons though.

Came across this 6 foot 9 bloke. Was built like a brick shithouse, was wearing a vest and stone island cargo trousers. I was wearing a Forest shirt and he shouted "What's that rubbish you are wearing?!" from across the street and I just walked up to him and knocked him straight out cold from there. Little did I know, he was part of their firm - about 30 blokes came around the corner, and one by one they came running at me, and one by one I was knocking them out.

True story.

Finally, after decades of having this weird irrational dislike I get to air it the public domain. . GO f*** YOURSELF FRANCIS BENALI

PS: YOUR WEIRD LITTLE DRIVING LOOKALIKE PRESENTER ON TOP GEAR CAN GO f*** HIMSELF, THEN ROLL HIMSELF UP TO f*** YOU AGAIN!

Generally, those fishy fucks from North France FC can consider themselves nothing more than a convenient car park for us until the day we just push it away to float off into the Atlantic Ocean.

Phew...good to let it out eventually

Disagree re Winchester, the town and surrounding area is quite characterful with plenty to do and see. Whilst it's true that some areas are almost swamped by students - I'd add Winnall to Stanmore and Highcliffe - and that it's in the commuter belt I've found the people down here for the most part to be very friendly and hospitable (but I've only been down this way since 2013 so you've doubtless seen it change much more than I have).

Didn't know Wayne Bridge was from Stanmore, probably partly explains why he was Head Boy at King's where - strangely for a secondary school - there's a bar named after him.

Southampton was the first place I've ever been to when the landlord of the pub I was standing in decided to close at 9 o clock because there wasn't many in.
Still have bad dreams about it and wake up in a cold sweat to this day. Thank god Ray wasn't with me.

I worked there for the Beeb for several years as a reporter and found it a dead city ... no heart to it, the marina was ok but of the three cities in the patch I found Bouremouth the nicest - Portsmouth was pretty dire but went to some good gigs at the Guildhall though. The Southampton training ground at Staplewood is lovely. Winchester and its denizen's think themselves a cut above.... which they aren't.

Best thing about Southampton town centre is the IKEA on the waterfront where you can watch the cruise liners dock/depart from the cafe, that's about it.

Portsmouth is a bit of a hole but agree that Bournemouth is nice.

Yeah, Winchester has its share of plebeian snobs but it's no worse than parts of Nottingham in that regard.

Interesting what in depth knowledge there is of Winchester on this forum! I've worked for the council in Winchester for the last 16 years so am very interested in your take on the place....

Covered stories there and around the area for several years - though my most abiding memory of those days days was Tom from Oliver's Battery. We'd be sat in the newsroom watching South Today go out and you could guarantee sure as eggs were eggs that the phone would ring and it'd be Tom... with some complaint about that night's programme. My trips to Winchester were mostly to interview some bod or another at the Council's offices or do something relating to a case at the crown court. Doing a vox pop where you stop people in the street for their opinions on things the people were generally of a what can I say, a wealthier disposition than you would find in the main if you did the same in Southampton or Portsmouth.

Winchester is a smaller, more bohemian Salisbury really. I like to visit every now and again but being as the road system is worse than Salisbury's (which is saying something) not too often.

You do have a bypass though which I would happily kill for.

:ROFLMAO: Absolutely not! I bet he was an old Tory fart with far too much time on his hands and a member of Winchester Royal Golf Club... tossers!

Nearest I got to BBC South was helping Emma Vardy's overloaded cameraman carry his equipment up a few flights of stairs on a couple of occasions.
