Yates is a lot of things but a goal threat he is not. He’s scored 3 goals from 66 attempts in the PL

You don't have to score goals to be a goal threat.

Yates plays as a 6 but tries to get in the opposition box on the end of crosses, which occupies and pulls defenders out of position.
Players like Sangare don't do this, so the goal threat is reduced.

I'd be starting Yates. I don't know why he was dropped after starting most games Oct 24-Mar 25, which coincidentally was our best form. It's puzzling

Yates is the type of midfielder with the energy and power to score goals. You're right - he hasn't done so yet but he could with the right coaching replicate the Doucoure role

Mine is threatening to score goals.

I'll give him a couple more years but you might be right... I do reckon if he dropped down to that level he'd hit double figures again though.

Regardless of exact position he's deployed in, I'd expect Ryan to score a few headers once Dyche has got our set-pieces up to the standard he expects.
In terms of deploying him as a second striker - I'm not sure I have the confidence in his shooting boots, despite the fact he started out a striker in our Youth system.

What's interesting about Yates is that stats wise he has better returns as a DM than a CM. Not sure what level he was playing at though.

I still hope he can become a five to seven goals a season type, though Id guess it depends what targets he has around him on set pieces... You aren't targetting Yates when you have Milenkovic.

It's a bit predictable to always target one player though...especially when most teams will stick their most physical man on him.
