Premier league 2022/23 season - Final league position prediction thread

Mr Realistic
If we have a starting 11 that is close to this:

Henderson
Worral, Niakhate, McKenna
Spence, Yates, Maitland-Niles, Williams
Gibbs-White
Johnson, Awoniyi

I honestly think top 10, and a cup run would be on the cards
Anyone got any Kleenex spare?

Does anyone know why Southampton are getting shirty with us on Twitter? Apparently they have been badmouthing us.
A Forest fan tweeted something about we need a new rival now since we are in the Prem and might as well be them or something like that. I think Saints fans are taking it a bit too seriously lol.

Similar to GibraltarRed I'm thinking top 10 and doing well in cups would be realistic to aim for if the squad keeps coming together.

I still think in addition to Gibbs-White, at least another AM would be good: for cover/rotation as well as possibly a switch to 4-2-3-1 at times (if we got Neco Williams rather than Spence, as seems more likely now, I'm thinking he'd be equally as good as a RB and RWB possibly too, although Maitland-Niles if he came would I guess be an option as LWB but less so LB). Gibbs-White can be the second forward at times I suppose, if Johnson was unavailable or out of form/fitness at times. I mentioned Sallai of Hungary before, who can play from the left, but there'd also be Brooks from Bouremouth who'd add a left footer I guess.

I think a midfielder with quality on the ball too: maybe Garner will still come back on loan or permanently, although other available players right now are Ceballos and Harry Winks apparently. Whether we'd be running out of the money to buy someone like that, and a loan wouldn't be feasible I don't know though. Winks would add a home-grown player to the squad, but Everton are interested and his form has dipped at Tottenham. Garner is probably a bit better defensively than either of those, but probably not as good in possession (I'm thinking the manipulating of the ball etc moreso than passing) and if Yates was to be first choice maybe it'd kind of work having one player who excels more in terms of solidity as well as being able to score and the other who excels more as a playmaker and knits things together neatly. I remember for a few games Forest had Haaland and Bohinen in that kind of 'one is good at one thing, and the other at the other' kind of midfield, albeit in more of a 4-4-2 or 4-1-3-2 (Haaland wasn't really a scorer at that point though, like Yates was last season at least).

Anyway, at this stage, based on Williams, Gibbs-White, Niakhate and/or possibly that other Hungarian Szalai that's been mentioned, a quality CM and AM as indicated above, a few more squad players etc coming in for example, maybe Garner back on loan if that's possible (and it's difficult to be less vague when the squads aren't complete yet, plus nobody will ever get the full prediction correct anyway!) I'm thinking maybe
Top 3 (alphabetical order) - Chelsea, Liverpool, Man City
Next 3 - Arsenal, Man Utd, Tottenham
Next 3 (not to rule out Forest from this area) - Aston Villa, Leicester, West Ham
Next 3 - Newcastle, Nottingham Forest, Wolves
Next 4 (Forest in here would still be ok)- Brighton, C.Palace, Everton, Southampton
Bottom 4 - Bournemouth, Brentford, Fulham, Leeds

Crnigoj is apparently on his way now I see: I reckon it'd be (and should be) more likely it'd be him or Yates in midfield rather than both together. There was also that Stuttgart player linked wasn't there - not sure whether he'd be another who'd be more for the dynamic/solid box to box role?

Wijnaldum is another midfielder who is apparently available (also linked to Everton) - I'd like the idea of him playing for Forest but there'd be a few question marks I guess (not that it can't sometimes work to bring in experienced midfielders towards the end of their careers - it went pretty well with Archie Gemmill in 77/78 didn't it!):
- Age (and decline in stamina etc?)
- Why are PSG letting him go after bringing him in not long ago?
- Wages (he doesn't seem greedy or anything, but he's been paid by PSG and will continue to be unless he moves)
- System (is he more for a 3 player midfield maybe?)

Brandon Williams was linked too at one point wasn't he - maybe in his case it'd work better for him to be LB rather than LWB. I'm getting the impression Cooper plans to stick with the system from last year more than likely though (although could be wrong) - it'd still be good to be able to play 4-2-3-1 or something as variation rather than only altering how wide the supporting attackers operate from, whether one plays as a second striker etc.

But yeah, I'll go slightly on the optimistic side re: my above post and predict 10th at this point!

May have been some slightly biased predictions in there.

It will be a very strange season if you only need 20 points to avoid relegation. Since the reduction in the number of teams to 20, the lowest points needed to stay up in any season is 30 in 2020-21. The highest number of points needed was 43 in 2002-03. (You could deduct a point with the right goal difference)

My range is 16th +/-3places.

So I'm going to go with 13th and thrive on the positivity.

15th and couldn't give a fat rat's ass about any cup run. Comfortable lower mid-table obscurity and dignity are the watch words for the season ahead anything else is a bonus but Ideally we pass 11 points in the first 10-12 games.

I think we're in a better position now than Fulham AND Bournemouth.
I think Leeds and Everton are weaker than they were last season. Brentford don't have Eriksen anymore. Southampton have a lot of young players now too. I don't think we'll be ahead of all of them but most of them.

I'm going to say 15th. I think we'll secure our safety at the start of May.

First get to 12 points, then to 40 as quickly as possible.

Can't leave a full guess much longer, so on the basis we seem like getting MGW, I'll go with this (yes, I'm really not sure about Chelsea 1st, and overall I'm hoping I'm not spot on obviously as I'd be thinking about how much I could have won if I bet on it lol...but that's highly unlikely - I'd prefer Forest to get as high as the 7th GBG suggested of course, but I think 10th would be pretty good indeed and it does seem achievable to me at this point factoring in a remaining positive vibe, the signings, the fact Forest historically do well when on a roll of self belief and excitement and the fact if promoted teams make decent starts they can end in the top half).

1st Chelsea
2nd Manchester City
