Oliver „No Middle Name“ Glasner

I keep seeing from Palace fans that he's gone for the money. I don't think £10m a year is bad for a manager with a very high stock right now. Of course we have to give him good money as no one expected him to be available in early July. Also one other point is Marinakis has probably given up penny pinching on shite managers. This is the time to move on to a new level in our 5th year in the Premier League and Glasner is the right man for our owner.
Its Copium and I do get it, they offered him a decent salary which he declined. The thing about it is that when we sacked at least 2 of the managers we did last year I was one who was urging us to pay £10m for Silvas release clause and obviously he would take a hefty wage on top of that so just paying a base salary is cheaper! Palace have paid their new manager £5m a year and might have to pay £4.2m compensation so actually they've spent a fair bit themselves trying to replace him and nearly as much as us.

The only people that know the actual salary won't have leaked it to the press but I remember Lingard being spoken about as fact that he was "paid £400k a week" and then subsequently us making MGW the highest paid player in our history on £150k a week a few years down the line. Both can't be true and I would say the latter is far more likely to be accurate which in turn means the first bit of factual reporting turned out to be complete bs.

Him only moving to us for the money is unlikely but the media savvy Parish would have it made out that way because again it absolves him of any wrongdoing imho.

Who is turning their nose up at 10-12?

I was just explaining my thoughts on the appointment and the general reaction that this was an elite signing for us. I even said that I was happy with the appointment.

I'm not turning my nose up at anything. I haven't seen anyone on here do so either, so I'm not sure why people are saying anyone is unhappy with OG. There is plenty of grey area between "we are going to win everything" and "not good enough for Nottingham Forest".
It was just a turn of phrase not an attack so apologies if you took it that way.

My point, however you want to phrase it, was you said they looked mediocre or poor but he managed to get what is a poor squad comfortably away from relegation whilst also winning a European trophy.

I’d suggest he has done a bloody good job given what he had to work with

Ipswich have paid 5m euros for GON ss compensation.

Let's say we have paid 4m too much for Glasner, that's only a couple of Premier league places, 14 or above and it pays for itself.

Having spunked countless £m on managers and players, £12m extra for a top manager over 3 years is chicken feed.
It's the difference between fifteen minutes extra of talks in the Anderson deal.

We’ve all said it but I do find it funny when football fans say a player or manager has ‘gone for the money’. Yeah of course they did, it’s a job at the end of the day so why not take the most money.

Anyway, Glasner is class and palace fans are twats, I can’t wait for the season to start.

AC Milan aren't the draw that they once were either. Forest have got far more spending power and the PL is much more desirable to manage in than Serie A these days.

There are host of reasons why people might want to either club. I'm not sure why it would be such a surplus if anyone opts for us now.

Yeah, Palace fans are kidding themselves if they think Glasner were ever gonna stay there when he was frustrated with the club too. He obviously felt like he wasn't gonna progress any further as a manager at that club, because the wouldn't back him with funds/players.

So yes, he'll have moved for the money, but his general ambition and desire to be at a proper club that wants to be legendary again is completely understandable and a driver too. Why would you stay at a stagnant club happy to revel in media mediocrity - the man has AMBITION.

Let’s face it, who would not?

I know I did, which is how I ended up where I am today.

EM isn’t daft. He knows that we will struggle to attract better players without a European competition to be playing in. So employing a high tier manager that will attract better players (with EM’s financial support) is the obvious way to go.

Pah, it’s only money. I’ve wasted thousands on booze, birds, and fast cars.

The rest, I just squandered.
