I was exaggerating slightly but my point was it was with a tiny squad with the inability to properly rotate

He walked Austrian football, went to Wolfsburg & qualified for Europe twice, went to Frankfurt & did the same with a European trophy thrown in - joined Palace halfway through a season with 25 points in 25 games & got 24 points in the final 13 games (for context - VP inherited a similar points total & got 15 points) - this was their highest ever points total. Then he gets 53 (another points record for Palace) & 45 points (whilst managing European football with 14 players by the way).

I am not expecting us to walk the league or it to be smooth sailing from minute one, but his record is pretty untouchable, even the league record. Put it this way, if he joined without the trophies, there would be less fanfare but I imagine most would still be happy with it. He's got the most out of every team he has managed, Palace was not a one off.

Yeah overall, he has a pretty good league record - his points per game record at Palace is similar to Iraola at Bournemouth, Hurzeler and RDZ at Brighton, Nuno at Wolves, Rodgers at Leicester, nearly as good as Moyes' first Everton spell, marginally better than Silva at Fulham, which is a good return for a non-Sky 6 team and probably sees us midtable or pushing for Europe depending on the season. Also better than Frank at Brentford. It is a bit up and down though, although I think from memory so is Hurzeler and possibly Iraola too.

I do also like that he has done it at a few clubs. Suggests a repeatable formula. I don't think Iraola gets the Liverpool job if he hadn't already done well with Rayo for example, so the fact OG has a decent record in Germany and England is good. Didn't help with Ange though :LOL:

But I think it's the cup wins that have really bolstered OG's reputation, more so than style of play or personality or whatever (I think Iraola gets more credit for the way his teams play).

So he is definitely a good appointment for a team that has been in a relegation scrap 3 out of the last 4 seasons. I expect him to have us somewhere between 8th and 12th. If he does that and wins us the FA Cup, I'll be over the moon.

I suppose my initial point was he was getting talked up as a potential Man Utd manager earlier in the summer - I don't think he has proven himself at that level yet, therefore I wouldn't say he is "elite". But for where we are, it's clearly an ambitious and exciting appointment. Maybe I read a few too many posts of people over-egging it and now people think I have a downer on Glasner. I don't, for the avoidance of doubt.

I will echo what a few other people have said though - we have to be in this for the long-term (whatever that means in football). If he doesn't start well here, we have to get behind him, especially as I imagine he will be heavily backed with funds to buy his own players. I am half hoping Marinakis has just thought, "I can't be doing with 4 managers in a season again, I'll just pay out to get a good one."

Finally I will add for completeness, I couldn't care less about his reported salary as a) it's not my money and b) worrying about money in football is crazy because it lost the plot decades ago. I also couldn't care less about these reports of him alienating players etc. It would be nice if he were nice (like that Palace media guy above said he was) but I don't care if he is the mix of Jeffrey Dahmer and Harold Shipman if he wins us lots of games. I'm not too keen on seeing 3 at the back, but see above for that too.

I am surprised at you Notcher. I normally enjoy reading your comments. Whoever the manager is at Forest gets my full backing.i must admit I liked Vito and would have been happy for him to stay but Glasner has a brilliant CV but we have got to give him time.

For the avoidance of doubt I'm fully behind Glasner. I think this a fantastic appointment and one of the best we've made in decades.

I keep seeing from Palace fans that he's gone for the money. I don't think £10m a year is bad for a manager with a very high stock right now. Of course we have to give him good money as no one expected him to be available in early July. Also one other point is Marinakis has probably given up penny pinching on shite managers. This is the time to move on to a new level in our 5th year in the Premier League and Glasner is the right man for our owner.
