Official Matchday Thread-Nottingham Forest v Aston Villa KO 14.00 12 April 2026

The brutal Premier League relegation battle resumes on Sunday when a buoyant Aston Villa side arrive in Nottingham for another crucial game.

Despite our struggles at Villa Park since our promotion we have remained unbeaten against them at home in that
period which suggests it could be a tight match.

I think Forest will likely play the same team that prevailed at Tottenham and let’s hope we can get a result at home this weekend and again next Sunday (which might lift the fear of demotion along the banks of the Trent).

Put the lamb on the spit on a bit later than normal so it's not ready yet.

They'll gather around it and then you can watch the match in peace.
I'd do it, but unfortunately we won't be spit-roasting as I'm in an apartment. Can't really light a proper fire in the balcony, the neighbours will be calling up the fire brigade. :ROFLMAO:

Oh, for a proactive marketing team across the road!
The new bloke in charge at Trent Bridge is very keen on this sort of thing.

His predecessor was completely against it, which is a shame cos they could have been doing this for years.

As an aside this could be a dress rehearsal for a Europa League semi-final.
Maybe we could cut a cunning mutually beneficial deal with Villa, Germany v Austria style? 😂 Just joking.

She is indeed Greek. And yes, orthodox Easter is one week different.

Looking at our first XI and the likely line up for Villa with (minutes played last night).

Sels(0)
Williams(30)
Murillo(45)
Milenkovic(45)
Aina(0)
Sangare(16)
Anderson(0)
MGW(60)
CHO(0)
Hutchinson(30)
Jesus(45)

It makes the draw at Porto look even more impressive. There cannot be any excuse of tired legs, especially after the few weeks break prior.

And now compare our minutes to Villa, who started their first XI and didn't make a sub until the 80th min (only 2 others were on the 88th min). By all accounts were very lucky to come away with the scoreline they did, and judging from the highlights the lad Jonathan Rowe absolutely tore Matty Cash to shreds - basically, that tie isn't over in Emerys eyes.

We play before Leeds but after West Ham, which is ideal.

If West Ham beat Wolves tonight, it gets West Ham out of the bottom three for the first time since November, and puts Spurs in the bottom three for the first time with all the pressure that comes with that.

That happening should keep us focused on our own situation, and gives us an opportunity to further pile it on Leeds ahead of their trip away to Man United on Monday. Us drawing and Leeds losing by more than one goal sees us climb above them. We only need to outperform one of three teams if that happens, which is a massive boost over the two it is at present.

We've arguably got the most difficult fixture round this week (Leeds might understandably argue it's them) but that switches around next week when we have got the easiest. Therefore I'd be very happy taking a point against Villa as I think it would be a very good one overall.

I'd happily take a point but considering all the factors of us managing minutes and Villa on a different path, i think all 3 are there to be got. And i think thats exactly what Vitor is going for. A raucous WFCG and we come away with all 3 points i think putting safety within touching distance.

The possibility of predicting Spurs results has moved into the virtually impossible realm with de Zerbi appointed and having had a decent mini-break to work with the players.
Will Wolves continue with their revival if relegation becomes certain?
And Leeds, now without Roden , who has been a rock for them this season?
Even predicting the outcome of Forest v Villa is virtually impossible given Villa’s approach to the EL.
Starting their strongest XI last night seemed to a statement of intent to secure a Champions League place by winning the EL might mean they are more relaxed about the PL.
Who actually feels confident predicting any result at this point?
Even Forest v Burnley isn’t a home banker for me!
