Nuno Da Costa

It's not harsh - apologies if it seemed I was demeaning him as a human being but I think he is a dead end for Forest, were he younger I would suggest he might be worth a second look by Cooper, after all SC has shown that much of the castigating of players under Hughton was primarily down to CH's tactics not their ability. However da Costa was poor while he was here and has not sent the world alight since he left so I don't think he'd be worth the effort to bring him back and try to integrate him in to a new system if we can look at other potential options like blooding more of the youth team players.

I still think it’s pretty harsh to caste him as basically useless after the shit hand he was dealt when he got here.

Didn’t the club that had him on loan last year actual want him but they literally had no money?

I'm pretty sure he didn't go to Derby on loan last year.

Seems like another player who has made a fortune out of football, but no one can work out how he did it.

I would prefer if he didn't come back here and perform the feat one more time. Once bitten, twice shy.

I think those who follow French football, particularly Valenciennes and Strasbourg, could probably answer how

Is there any way the mods can whack this thread in repeat? Just take the previous 7 posts and repost them every 3 months? Saves everyone the time and effort of slating a player that through no fault of his own ended up up the creek without a paddle.

Just to add

Was signed while recovering from a knee injury.
Moved himself, his Mrs and his young daughter over here.
Picked up another injury to his knee.
Lockdown for Covid.
Forest’s total collapse in form post lockdown (well since the Leeds game really).

Not saying Da Costa is/was a world beater, but much like we wrote of Mir as being shit, and many others as being shit, we never really gave him an opportunity to be a success either.

This is why I want to see if Cooper would give him a chance over the summer, what we have in striker options is tragic and he surely can give SOMETHING.

Ultimately it might be too late but who knows, Cooper is a magician.

Woah, don't you come in here slapping out facts, this thread is about absolutely hammering the bloke with a sword hilted by Vrentoz or someone else that's demon of the year.

The pelters he gets are disgraceful and frankly he is a decent football player, it's why he's been doing it for a living for so long as he's been employed by people much more qualified than any of us to do that job.

You can't fault the obvious effort he puts in on the pitch, but he is now a 30 year old striker who's never really made the grade anywhere he's been.

His transfer to Forest never really made any sense, someone scouted him during his last season in France where he scored 2 in 21 appearances and said to themselves "yes, this is the striker Forest need to help them with that push to finish in the playoffs".

One thing about the fans at this club, they love their players.

No matter how unsuccessful a player might have been, every transfer window is littered with names from the past who we should sign again, just in case they weren't that crap the first time round.

Odds on you are right but isn’t there a little part of you that wants to see what SC can do me with him?.
I mean the forum is littered with obituaries on players like Colback who have had a new lease of life under Cooper. Given all the clamouring for Carvalho to be given a 5th chance so we can unlock the holy grail I wouldn’t be upset if DaCosta was given another shot…

It would be handy if he was given a shot never mind another one.

Jo Brand's not a world beater, nor is she fit enough to get a game for Forest.

But I struggle to believe that the only reason she never made it here is because she never got give the opportunity.

I’m not arsed either way. I can’t say I’d be drooling at the prospect of him coming back especially given his age but if Cooper felt he could get a tune out of him then fair enough. I think it is fair to say over the last few years players at Forest have been shunted around and treated fairly badly and just because they are well paid it doesn’t make it right.

Did we really pay £2m for him? Jesus. Hopefully those days are gone now under Dane.

Anyway

Exactly

Nobody even knows what position is Da Costa's best. Is he a winger or striker? He played exclusively as a striker prior to us signing him with his strength his work rate and heading ability in the box.

His first year he only played as a winger for us. A player in a long list that wasn't given enough to game time to even judge him.

Clubs like Brentford don't succeed in recruitment because they never sign a bad player, they succeed in recruitment because they give players a fair chance. It is all I hope we do going forward, 1 in 1 out, like for like transfers.

To be fair she struggles to knuckle down and get herself fit. She’ll end up retired at 29 like lewis McGugan if she’s not careful.

Aye, and she'd still do more for us than Da Costa.

Da Costa came here to get us promoted and looks like leaving the club having scored more goals against it than for it. How anyone can see that, and him, as anything other than an utterly abysmal signing I've no idea. Up there with the "Carvalho's never been given a chance" bollocks.

Before making a fully-informed judgement, I'd personally liked to have seen how a fit Da Costa would have fared having been given a reasonable opportunity in his favoured position. Then again, that's probably just me being awkward.

Alf doing his best to bring Carvalho up in every single thread on the forum

No doubt it will continue for a good few years after he leaves as well.

Stop being so reasonable!

Feel like he could do the business against a tired defense, more than Taylor can do anyway.

Brentford success in recruitment is because they pick players for a position, rather than recruit then try to shoehorn players into a squad.

Nuno could well have been a success for us if we recruited him specifically for his strengths with a clearly defined role in the team to make use of them. We didn’t, we just decided we needed tall fast players (Diakhaby, Nuno, Ameobi, Adomah et al) so signed him up on that basis.

The recruitment under Dane Murphy will likely be the former rather than the latter approach.

FWIW I think Nuno probably would offer us the same as Lyle Taylor on a much reduced wage in a Steve Cooper side but that again is me trying to find a position for him, rather than him being brought into the club for that reason.

The vast majority of footballers are very capable in the right circumstances. I often think about the advice someone gave me once - the failing of the employee is as much the failing of the manager. In the football sense this applies also to the senior leadership as the man in the head coach seat.

With that recruitment regime's strike rate, I don't think we're missing much to be honest Otis.

He couldn't even score, or threaten goal, in his preferred position when playing pre-season friendlies against lower league opposition anyway.
