It's remarkable how similar to city in the early years that they've operated; getting quality signings without going crazy with it.

But surely they are getting the players they want because the players can see the vast financial backing the club now has.

That level of player normally looks around thinking of their own future career and therefore you get the "three clubs are interested" guff from the agent trying to see what's available. In this case the future looks pretty obvious, so there's the 'let's sign quickly before they change their mind' scenario. Plus we don't know what wages and other extras have been added to the deals, but can assume that the club aren't that fussed about money, just getting the players they want.

Yeah they do.

But at the same time they could be going out and signing a bunch of mercenaries for huge money. They are still recruiting well and at reasonable prices.

All good proven Premier League players with the odd wildcard thrown in like that guy from Lyon last January who is very good.

Apparently Newcastle only paid 12m. Seems pretty cheap
£12m for a keeper in his 30s who has spent most of his career in the Championship or bottom half of the Premier League seems about right for me. Will do a job as Newcastle's number 1 for a year or two.

True, I was thinking of the FFP angle, because I would guess at the moment they don't have a big income other than gate money and TV deal. The initial big money will be spent on the infrastructure like Man City, then the ackers will really roll in and they can spend their money on players.

Just reading about Burnley, took loan of 65 mill and now having to repay large chunks back. I know very little about there club but seems strange that having 6 years in prem, generally not splashing too much cash and working towards budget, granted they have small off pitch income, but then now seemingly having big debts. Hopefully Forest can get it right on/off the pitch.

I think that their debts are mostly a result of their recent takeover, where their USA owners borrowed against the club to complete the purchase, assuming that they'd stay in the Premier League. Before that, they ran a tight ship financially. Sounds like they are f**ked.
