New digital platform - ForestTV!

Is that right? That’s not what is suggested by Colin Fray.

It’s quite unclear, though.

If it’s bbc nottm then yeah it’ll be still local only. You can still get national stuff but only in the same way as you did with FM/AM.

But hopefully I am wrong.

The official site is now saying we will be able to listen free to today's match commentary!

Note that this is worldwide today too.

Also confirms, the effective demise of ForestTV due to „Premier League Rights“, although it says some services „are being reviewed in the coming days“.

I'm pleasantly surprised to find that the commentary is working in game online via the BBC sounds app on my phone. I couldn't find a way to get the match via our website but now that it's working on the BBC app I don't need to.

I think the club are being deliberately a little quiet about this. They did flag it for the Newcastle match hours before. But nothing today. Let's keep it quiet, let's keep it going...

The original link on the webshite was this
Code:
https://www.nottinghamforest.co.uk/news/2022/august/06/audio-commentary-available-for-free-during-2022-2023-campaign/
The web link within the anchor tags suggests that it'll be every game ..."audio-commentary-available-for-free-during-2022-2023-campaign", though there was nothing on the page that said anything beyond the Newcastle game.

I’ve got BBC Nottingham on and they’ve just said that commentary is available to be streamed throughout the UK, or at least that’s what I thought it said.

Can anyone confirm that standard BBC Nottm streaming in the UK was possible for either of the previous games? Obviously 5Live and Sky helped in the first two so I didn’t check.

The Forest TV bit of the official website is offering the commentary for £45 for the year or £6pm but I’m buggered if I’m paying that if it’s available for free.

It wasn't available for Newcastle v Forest. I didn't try for the West Ham game as it was on tv.

Having to pay 5.99GBP to Forest TV to listen to Radio Nottm, here in the USA will try to sync with the match that is shown here on Peacock TV.

To confirm.

I was in Northumberland today and I streamed the entire match with Colin Fray commentary via BBC sounds.

Do NOT buy from the Forest website.

Save yourself £45.
This is important information - thank you for sharing. My sister in Manchester will be happy 🙂

I suspect that the Radio Nottingham commentary was available on BBC Sounds because the game was also available on Radio 5. Looking at tomorrow's League Cup game the Radio Nottingham schedule say's it isn't available online. Next Sunday's game is on Radio 5 and is available online again on Radio Nottingham.

It's a small sample of games, so I could be wrong, but I think the Radio Nottingham coverage is only available when the game is also on Radio 5.

I think my mate tried BBC Tees at the same time and that also worked. Should have tested it a bit more in hindsight.

That would make sense. This is how the radio rights for the Premier League are split between the BBC and Talksport. The League Cup is a separate package, so would have a separate rights package.

Will post this here also in case it gets buried in the matchday thread, but with zero publicity or announcement, Forest have brought-back the Audio-only option for UK and International fans, complete with Colin Fray commentary from Radio Nottingham.

Granted it is £45 for the season, but if you are outside Radio Nottingham coverages, this might be an option for you:

Go to the Forest website, log in, and click on the Match Centre, there should be an option „Upgrade your streaming subscription“ click on that to get to the screen above.

And yes, they don‘t make it easy to find.

I've had full commentary through the BBC sounds app for every premier league game so far - even the ones on Sky as I sync the audio up as I prefer Colin Fray's commentary.
Keep expecting it to cut off just before kick off but it doesn't.

I'm in London so have had to buy an audio pass in previous years. Presumably the rules are different with Premier League rights as opposed to EFL ones?

Definitely doesn’t work for Carabao but the advert I keep hearing on BBC Nottm did make me think they’d all be on Sounds and you seem to be backing this up. Good news indeed.

The Carabao was the one game I missed so wasn't sure about that until you said. Good that it appears to be working for the league games though. Long may it continue

The Forest TV „Official“ audio passes (See my post above) certainly include the Carabao Cup, when you stream the content from the Forest Website or (if you’re a masochist) the Forest App.

Yes I've had the audio pass for the past few years prior to this season and always got the cup games as well.
Presumably there is some reason why BBC sounds can't have the audio for the cup games on their platform for free, similar to how it was in the championship? I would hazard a guess that the EFL have different criteria or revenue rules and won't want to give the rights away for free or something along those lines so any competition with their teams involved can't have the audio streamed for free?

All rights are assigned on a territorial and platform basis. EPL, EFL and FA for their Cup competitions limit the rights for the clubs as part of the competition rules.

The club can only sell local broadcast rights to radio where there is a territorial provision in place, which is why you can get it on FM, DAB and Freeview as they all have a regional broadcast footprint. The BBC does not acquire the rights to broadcast this via the Sounds App or on its streaming server. The club cannot sell the TV rights, for example, they are managed collectively by the EPL, EFL or FA depending on the competition.

When the BBC buys rights for its Premier League package for BBC5Live, for example, it does acquire the right for the Sounds app but not for the streaming server, so you can listen in the Sounds App, but not in any other app that relays the BBC streams.

Similarly, when Sky Sports buy the TV rights to EPL games, it can only broadcast to UK subscribers. This means the EPL can then sell to territorial rights to various other international broadcasters for their territories.
