Neco Shay Williams

They can jog on then. I would think we move on to other targets if there's truth in that.
Absolutely. I’ve always liked the look of Williams but had in mind a player surplus to requirements at his club, wanting a move to knuckle down although a talented international would come in at £10m, obviously some other interest does push that up. But £20m if true I hope we don’t pay.

Can't see anyone paying 20m for Neco Williams (as decent as I think he is).

Got to hold our nerve on some of these prices we are quoted. Particularly teams in the Prem who think they have us over a barrel given our need for players. Can't see anyone paying over 12-15m, so he will still be available in a few weeks time.

Personally I think this is what Boro were hoping would happen with Spence, multiple clubs enquiring about him with genuine intentions to sign him so they could keep upping the asking price

Liverpool said early in the window that they'd be willing to let Williams go for £15m, I don't believe they had any intention to let him go at that price but it raised enough attention from other clubs for them to start moving the goal posts

We should have just bought him instead!!
All these player Ajax are likely to lose, let's look at who they are replacing with and hunt them down!

It's just business, we aren't looking at prem starting squad players, but will have to pay the premium. Liverpool and the likes can replace with inexperience for a fraction, loan them out for a season or two and double thier investment.

Awoniyi - sold for £6.5 without kicking a ball for Liverpool, cost them less than £500,000.

I don't think we'll fall for it. It can be easy to become obsessed with a player and end up paying whatever the selling club want (see united). We don't want to get brewstered, and while I think the risk is lower with Williams, the chance he doesn't cut it still applies.

Assuming it's true it shows the disparity when a club can afford to have a player on the bench that we can't afford for our first team.

I’d rather take a gamble for £4-5m at someone further down the food chain and let cooper do the biz. How many premier league games has even played? A few sub appearances maybe? If we are buying a rb who has competed at this level and is fairly established then fair enough. But he isn’t and he clearly needs a move and his club are happy for him to pop off.

Liverpool always seems to get the price they want so if not us I think somebody else will stump up that much for him; I personally don't think we need too however.

I guess it’s all opportunity cost at this point. Like how much of a step down in Dane/Coops mind is the next guy on their list. Is it worth the 3/4/5mil overpay for clarity at the position and at what point isn’t it.

I'm sure they'll settle for 16-17m, assuming the player wants the move. The £20m is purely to start a bidding war with us and Fulham

These established Premier League clubs are fully aware us promoted clubs are looking to invest and improve our squads to have the best chance of survival, and I think they're taking the piss to be honest.

We've had Villa quoting us £15m for Davis and now Liverpool saying £20m for Williams.

These players have had very good seasons in the Championship and are mainly backup players at their current clubs.

We need to be stating that in negotiations otherwise they're going to try to rinse us, Fulham and Bournemouth.

I wouldn’t py £20M for him. Like Spence we're right to play the long game. When nobody pays the inflated price they'll accept lower towards the end of the window.

Why do you chaps think so many deals are done late in the window.

If you are paying before the season starts you are overpaying.

True-that’s probably why we are looking at other markets which potentially offer better value.

The problem is that, given how threadbare our squad is, we can't really afford to wait until late in the window for most of our business.
I never said we should, I just said expect to overpay if you are getting players in early.

Still rather get Spence than Williams for 15m. If Spurs are dithering, stick an initial 13m offer to Middlesborough and see what they say.

Fulham have realised that Williams is over priced and gone for a cheaper option.
I mean Mbabu for 10 or Williams for 15, give me the latter all day.

Mbabu looks solid defensively and he is admittedly rapid, but pretty shocking on the ball. Ball pinballs off him more than not when I’ve watched Wolfsburg in the Champs. By the looks of it, he’s now their back up aswell
