By golly, looking at all the transfers which are reputedly just about to happen, we might be having an avalanche of new players soon!

Massive overhaul was needed with the state of the squad but I’m rethinking my earlier stance that it has left us in a bad position.. the fact that we don’t have a full squad of players who aren’t quite upto the mark has meant that it possibly won’t be as expensive a problem as it could have been with lots of fringe players sat on their nice promotion pay rises…

Either way, very exciting times!!

Yep. Compared to a lot of promoted clubs (who have acquired a lot of expensive players to get promoted), we have a relatively clean slate financially.

Yeah, if we recruit well it works in our favour. It gives us options but we will have to make it work.

The Fulham / Bournemouth squads are basically the same sides that got them relegated last time.

Surely a good sign they are actively in talks elsewhere

It’s not beyond the realms of possibility to get Neco and Djed in. We need a left back which they’ll be searching for but Williams is a free gamble. He’s good enough for both sides but will move left if we land Spence. For that reason I hope we get him.
Think it’s more likely we’ll see Kabore and Williams in.

Can’t see us spending £30m on two right backs.

I’m still hopeful for Djed. Although no theory behind it. I never thought we’d do the asking price for him. But as we are talking £17m for Williams we are in that hall park for players. It is all on spurs now I guess.

If Spurs really wanted Djed they would have got him by now, like the rest of the players they have signed.

This is my hope rzarecteh. Would rather drop £17m on Djed than Williams
I'm the opposite. I'd rather we get Neco than Djed.
Definitely spend a bit more and get Spence if that's possible, he's on a different level to Williams.
Disagree.

I'd prefer Williams.

For all Djed's pace & trickery Neco has the better final ball. And that to me is the deciding factor.

Neco looks better on the attacking end and we will need that in the Prem so Neco for me based on that.

They do really want him and have tracked him for some time, but they simply cannot agree terms.

Djed has made it clear apparently that he wants that move to Spurs, to be back in London and to play Champions League football.

But I was talking to a Spurs fan yesterday who said they might walk away if negotiations continue to be difficult.

If it gets to that point and we've moved on ourselves, he might have start to looking elsewhere and it might get tricky for Djed himself.

This makes no sense to me.

Ok, so Boro want a decent price for their player, which is fair enough. But he doesn't want to stay with them, and they don't want him.

As it stands, the best options for him are us (where he spent last season on loan and fits in) or Spurs (perhaps less guarantee of first team football, but back in London, and at a higher level as you say).

We are wisely looking elsewhere, expecting Spurs to get him but, this doesn't appear any closer to happening.

Spurs (quite wisely) presumably don't want to pay too much for a player who has potential but maybe a questionable attitude (Warnock's comments) and who hasn't played in the PL yet. He's also not necessarily going to be a first team player for them.

We're also looking at other players such as Neco Williams who can do as good a job. I know both can play LWB and RWB but if we did get Williams would we also want Spence?

If the answer to that is no, then he could end up with neither Spurs nor Forest being able to sign him.

And if that's the case, also assuming no-one else does come in for him and get him, he's back at Boro playing 2nd fiddle to Izzy Jones having already won promotion from the same division.

It really is a massive gamble. If Spurs aren't willing to pay what Boro want they should drop it and let us get him tbh

I think Spence really needs to consider his options here and realise where he's liked.

He might not get that same feeling at Spurs. A few bad games at that high level and they'll be on his back whereas we will support him.
