Fulham were supposed to be lining up a double deal with pool for him and minamino, who has just signed for Monaco, hopefully we ruin the second half of the deal for them!

I'd prefer Kabore, I'd much rather have pace at wing back. Williams doesn't look that quick whenever I've seen him

I think I would agree, purely for the way we set up. Williams may be the better all round player but this fella seems a better fit.

Maybe we’re after both? Especially if Layrea is leaving. Need cover.

Same for me and £15m+ does seem steep. Not that I'd be complaining if we do sign Williams though he's clearly still a very good player, just feel like Kabore is a more like for like replacement to Spence and allows that right wing to stay mega pacey.

Worth remembering that Williams can play down the left too, I think he could do a good job there in the more disciplined 'Colback' role (but with a bit of youthful energy on top) as opposed to our right side which is more full steam ahead

Seems odd we'd target a right footer for that role though even if he is competent at playing there.

Why not? Teams play this stupid inverted winger tactic all the time, which I've never really understood is overall beneficial compared to having more two-footed wingers playing on their natural sides.

I agree and it's unlikely we'll be paying 15 million to play him out of his preferred position but he's very capable on the left side, he is naturally right footed but he's got a pretty decent left foot on him even including deliveries. That versatility of being an option down both sides is worth a bit in its self, and Cooper does have a soft spot for versatile players

My pick would still be Kaboré because as you say he's almost an identical fit to the gap Spence has left, but if for whatever reason City aren't interested in our talks i'd be plenty happy with Williams

For those worried about William’s lack of pace (he’s still not slow may I add), it could be that we want somebody on the left with pace as well. We haven’t been linked to any LWB apart from Tagliafico and that doesn’t seem very concrete.

I get this desire for pace, but I don’t know enough about this guy’s fundamentals to know if the rest of his game matches up.

Had more red cards than assists for Troyes last season for a team that wasn’t exactly defensively stout. Usually bull but also got pretty low match rating from the websites that try that nonsense. Lihue 1 fans online seem to think he is good on his day, but a liability defensively.

Also Neco’s not slow, he’s as quick as someone like Cash (who I think we’d all take at RWB). My concern with Neco is him being too aggressive closing down and chasing himself out of position, which he does with Wales a fair bit.

Guys, please. For any doubters, this boy is just as good if not better than Spence.

The pace thing is strange to focus on. He's got so much natural ability and reading of the game, and you can even see him getting the better of Spence in this video.

Is this a reliable source?
Doesn’t look like it, seem to make assumptions best on other reporting. Just a couple fans who follow Liverpool. Don’t think they’re really claiming to be itk, more a passing comment after ready the Percy article probably

I wouldn't say it's a strange thing to focus on, it caused teams we played against hell last season, none moreso than Arsenal and Leicester. We're almost certainly gonna have to rely on our ability to counter more this season and having an excellent, rapid ball carrier, who is as close to Spence as possible, behind Johnson flying forward, could prove to be an even more important tool than it was last season.

All that being said, don't get me wrong I'm aware of how good Williams is and if we signed him I'd be delighted. I just feel like it'd require a slight change in tactic down that side, but perhaps that's something Cooper either wants, or feels like is worth doing to accommodate a player of Williams' standard.

It’s not beyond the realms of possibility to get Neco and Djed in. We need a left back which they’ll be searching for but Williams is a free gamble. He’s good enough for both sides but will move left if we land Spence. For that reason I hope we get him.
