I agree with you that he has the technical ability and awareness, and most importantly, the desire for a future midfield role.

Playing where everything is one side of you and nothing on the other whilst having the play entirely in front of you is very, very different to then having to assess the entire 360° and have everything all sides of you. This might sound harsh but it's just a reality, the reason most players end up at full back is because they weren't good enough as strikers or midfielders in the first place.

Remember it took Neco quite some time for him to understand his defensive role as a full back, now imagine him trying to learn a midfield role which is completely different in every single aspect.

He's PL proven, ultra consistent and boxes off an area that you don't have to worry about as a coach. He'll spend his entire career as a FB and a bloody brilliant one at that.

For example see the success tactical genius Gareth Southgate had playing Alexander-Arnold in midfield.

You make a lot of sense Notch. I just get an impression having watched him grow into the excellent footballer he's become that he has the intelligence and awareness to potentially make that switch if necessary, and not just to do a job so to speak.

Is that where you ended up?

Not sure he appreciates he’s following in the footsteps of our greatest left back with this honour in that his chant is a “remix” of “PSYCHO PSYCHO!!”. We just need the Trent End to give the accompanying arm pointing!

No different to the “You’ll never beat…” (insert Des Walker/WesMorgan/McKenna/Murillo) vibes!

That said I welcome alternatives for the Player of the Season in waiting….

Do you know what? I never even made the connection between him and the Psycho chant and being a LB myself. Is it just me that missed this or did everyone realise? If quite a few didn't then it might explain why Neco wouldn't.

It needs to be done with more gusto and umph really for it to be anything like what we did with Pearce.

Completely agree mate. It takes a special calibre of player to go from full-back into midfield.

Did I mention that I did that.....?

Jokes aside I just ran about and kicked everything that moved when I played in midfield. It's a very difficult position.

Yeah it's difficult. I've dropped in there a few times as I got to the back end of my playing days and you need wing mirrors on. Not a position I could've played full time.

Sounds like he's getting his request. I've seen this being sung to the tune of Vengaboys - we like to party.

Cos we've got Neco Williams, he's worth millions and millions,
we're drinking all your ales, with the prince of Wales,
