Hopefully once we get these four (Dennis, Maupay, Freuler and Kouyate) through the door, we get Malinovskyi and call it a day. I'd be lying if I said that I am not getting a bit worried about how much we are spending.
Aston Villa spent £150m when they were promoted in 2019 (and they had a far better starting position than
Forest)-our squad was woefully inadequate for Premier League football after the loans returned.
I’m not too worried at this stage about overspending-if the worst happens, our 2 huge earners (Lingard and
Henderson are leaving) plus there are bound to be 2 or 3 success stories (either from our promoted side
or the new signings) that will be sold be big bucks to balance the books. Also, the parachute payments
should help us be competitive in the Championship.
If we want to be a Premier League club then we need a squad to match-I’m reasonably confident that the
board will have a spending ceiling which won’t jeopardise the future of the club.
I just hope SC can weld the squad (when they all arrive) together quickly enough to allow us survive and
eventually flourish in the top flight after so many years away.

Ash do think that the sensible people who's prudent dealings last season secured our promotion are just spending money willy nilly

Or like me do you think that these people are working to well constructed budget plans incorporating best / worst case scenarios

Also don't forget we have a very wealthy owner who's prepared to spend whilst also prudent

We've spent 23 years watching shite players managed by shite managers, relax & enjoy it

With a 25 man squad and 20 of them involved in the matchday squad, if they're on the bench they need to be able to play. a shift in the thinking of players, managers and fans may be in the offing. Perhaps players most of all... The status of being a starter may diminish as the tactics shift to accommodate, and benchwarmers are a thing of the past

Ah, but Trevor Francis was worth that million!
Are these lads worth 10 - 20 times more than Clever Trevor?
A mill in 79 is worth about 4 Mill now. However, he was obviously the most expensive, that honour now goes to Neymar, in pure transfer fees, as he went for €220 million.

In conclusion:
f*** knows.

Everyone who is moaning about numbers. Say it with me......5 SUBS PER GAME.

This is a huge change to the league that's going under the radar. I repeat 5 SUBS PER GAME.
And in the current continental climate (mega-high temperatures, blazing sunshine, and not a cloud in the sky) SC needs to using all 5 to ensure the team can compete for the full 90 minutes playing time. That means we need at least 5 of the 9 on the bench to Premiership ready.
And at the moment, with injuries to Cook, McKenna, Yates and Richards, I don't think we have 5 who are.
Assuming the starting XI is Henderson, Williams, Worrall, Niakhate, Toffolo, O'Brien, Colback, Johnson, Managal, Lingard, Awoniyi, then the likely 5 best subs are: Biancone, Cafu, Surridge, Taylor (L), Mighten. Hennesey will be on the bench, but hopefully SC wont have to use him, allowing 5 outfield players to join the action. To make the bench up to 9 the other 3 will probably be Mbe Soh, Oliver Hammond, and Donnelly.
Until we have the injured players back from the physio's bench we cannot really be happy with the current number of contracted players.
Of course, when Maupay, Dennis, Freuler, and any others are finally contracted we will be looking a bit more able to compete.
To think we have too many players is to ignore the new world we have entered.
Come on you reds.
Football trivia question: name the first player to be used as a substitue on English professional men's football.
For 1 Bonus Point, name the club that he awas playing for at the time.
For a 2nd Bonus Point, who were the opposition?
For a 3rd Bonus Point, name the player who left the field of play.
For a 4th Bonus Point, what was the date (day, month, year).
And for the full 5: what is the link between this first substitue and the Forest v West am game?

Pub Quiz special - Keith Peacock for Charlton on 21st of August 1965 against Bolton Wanderers. Mike Rose, the Charlton goalkeeper, was injured and had to come off... no idea on connection... did wonder if the referee might be part of it but don't see a link. Keith Peacock's son was former Chelsea player Gavin Peacock but can't see any Forest connection there except he probably played against us..

A good set of answers.
Peacock, ater spending all of his playing career in England went to the USA to coach in the MLS. After a few years there, he returned where he took up an Assistant Coaching position with Sunday's visitors... West Ham.

Very happy with this signing.

Cooper spoke last week about how shit we were at holding onto possession. Maupay is a proper player, can link play and keep the ball as well as having a pretty good scoring record.

Not to smash the point home but am watching match of the day and most teams are making 4 subs around the 65 minute mark. So am glad we are getting numbers in. We would get ragdolled in the last 20 minutes without quality from the bench. Club has obviously seen this.

You've got go toe to tow with every team.

Whether your subs are proactive or reactive, you will have to make them.

Any way that Leeds top is horrid.
