Moussa Niakhaté

We shouldn't underestimate just how good Antonio is; he's a nightmare to defend against. Niakhaté did his job admirably I thought, danger in the air and willing to put it all on the line. He does have the odd rushed clearance/miss hit in him but so far so great.
Bowen as well who was anonymous today. He was one of the best in the league last year.

It says a lot when you can stop a player like Antonio turning you through strength alone.
I know we'll probably get well beat in the game but there is a genuine curiosity to see if Haaland can smash into Niakhite and McKenna like he usually does to central defenders.

This. Antonio's physical presence was a real challenge for Niakhaté today but I thought he grew into the game after a challenging start. It is notable that Antonio was withdrawn in the second half...we are two games in and Niakhaté is only going to get better imo

2nd ever game at the level and was fantastic. Was a threat in the air offensively too.

Fingers crossed he was only cramping a bit.

Niakhate will be all over players that he can physically dominate playing the way he did today. Antonio is massive & had no impact on the game - you could see his frustration because MN never let him face the goal

Very surprised to hear anyone thing he struggled. For me he competed very well against Antonio who is one of the strongest and awkward CF in the prem. How many chances did Antonio have himself or lay up for his team mates? Not a great d

I thought he was superb today and you know what, you can tell he is going to get better as he settles and reads the English game a bit better.
Assuming he stays fit I think we have a serious defender on our hands...

That's why he tackled him in the build up to their disallowed goal, utter frustration.
He was trying to prove a failing point that he was stronger. Antonio actually started flexing afterwards and I'm not even joking, watch it back.

Niakhate absolutely pocketed Antonio who is a difficult physical customer.

I'll keep saying it he's got the makings to follow VVD

it is great to have a mobile defender who can react quickly and strong enough to make a good challenge. He did have a tough challenge with antonio but better him than joe who is turning out to be the weak link in our defence.

Hope he's ok. Until the first water break Antonio was causing him problems, after that Niakhate had him all ends up, Antonio slid out of the game and became frustrated, as shown by his 'run' past Rice and straight into Mangala. After that happened, he became even less involved.

You have to be up to the physical battle with Antonio or he’ll totally dominate you. Moussa understood that from the start but had to figure out how he would win those battles which led to a few early mistakes, but you have to give him credit for learning, improving and ultimately winning the war.
I think I’m right in saying he is not only playing in a new team but also in a slightly new position, at Mainz he was more on the left side.
Done great so far and should be one of the first names on the teamsheet.

Was impressed with him in pre-season in the Hertha game, first time watched him. Reads the game really well and is calm with the ball. Game was played on the floor so didn't need to win headers, so nice to see him mix it up in a really, really tough physical battle yesterday too.

I think £8m is probably going to be the bargain of the summer. If you had to ask me to put a pin on a price tag I think he's actually worth based on watching him for 180 minutes I'd go for £30-£40m.
