I think they see us spending a lot of money, they see a midlands rival, they see a team who may potentially overtake them if they're not careful.

They see a huge talent on their books, they see how much we want him. They begin to realise his true value, they begin to stand firm.

In a nutshell.

Natives are also unhappy...

He's only worth what other clubs are willing to pay. Other clubs have lost interest because they clearly think he's overvalued. If we don't pursue him at the price Wolves want and he doesn't sign a new deal they'll have shot themselves in the foot as his value will have decreased in a year's time. Unless, of course, they see him as vital to them staying in the PL, in which case that has more value to them than his transfer fee.

Nah, with two years on the contract he's worth whatever they demand.

His value isn't set by potential buyers unless/until they - Wolves- actually want/need to sell him. Atm, it looks like they want him to stay.

You could say after they tucked us up with Mir and Bonatini they kind of owe us something :ROFLMAO:

Reality is though, they think of him like we think of Brennan. He seemed to be a focal point of their pre-season and they've only brought in two players so far. Would MGW be replaced for them, if so, do they have a replacement in mind?

He very well might want to play here instead of Wolves but I don't think enough to try and force a move because as someone said, it's probably a sideways move, in some ways a bit of a risk.

I think I read a reputable journalist say that one of the issues was that Wolves felt that some of our add-ons would never come to fruition. Probably stuff like getting into Europe or MGW playing for England's first team.

We also said it was our final offer so if we turn around and 2 days later offer them more money, doesn't do much for our bargaining position does it.

It's one of those times you would ideally like him to pull the sort of stunt players would when they left us.

Think forest should move on from this if white was all that surely top teams would be in for him , he has had one decent season In the championship. He isn't budging so move on
Clearly he's a big part of Cooper's plans, or I think we would already have moved on.
Personally I never saw the big deal, and with the amount of money being talked about we could buy a proven, quality player.

I'm going to go the opposite way, and say Forest should keep pushing - as long as the player wants the move we may well get what we want...
You think we can get what we want for a reasonable price?
I think we're looking at 40m+
If we can get him for less than 30 million its getting somewhere in the ball park of a fair deal. 20 would actually be fair.

Nottingham's dirty secret
Move on. Getting absolutely ridiculous now. It's their prerogative just like us with Brennan in Jan..

He might not even cut it in the PL ffs.

£30m is going to get us a hell of a player elsewhere.

Saw an interview on SSN with Lage last night, he was simpering all about Gibbs-White, saying he won't leave because the two of them have such a good relationship, how much they like each other and because he is a very important player for them and is the future of the club. But it was how he kept re-emphasising their relationship that really stood out.

It sounded like a cheated on spouse trying to convince themselves their marriage is strong after the partner has been caught banging a work colleague.

No idea on final price, I'll leave that to the people in charge, but what I do think is if he's Coops' primary target, who wants to come and needs to feel loved that we just keep going... I'd do anything to keep Steve happy!

(And fwiw I think the add ons are the issue with our previous offer - they don't think he'll play European football for us and have baulked at the idea, or something like that).

Can't Play Left-Back
Does he even get into our team? He's a good player but he's not getting in ahead of Lingard. We don't play with Wingers. I don't think he would play central midfield. If he plays as the second striker that means dropping Brennan, and I'd rather have Brennan. I don't think he could play as a main striker. Are we really going to spend £35m+ on a player who may end up being an impact sub? I trust Cooper obviously, but this is getting a bit silly. I'm all for buying young, developing and selling for a profit, but it seems like we're paying maximum value on a player for his potential but is someway short on current ability. I doubt MGW will become a £60m+ player, so the risk seems very high. If Wolves don't want to sell then keep him, play him and prove that he's worth that much. He's clearly a very good player, that is versatile and has a high ceiling, and if we do sign him I hope he does brilliantly for us, but the level of expectation would be massive (Carvalho x10).

I'm not so sure - just re-reading that tweet (ignoring the managers 'I really like you shout' sounds like a you pay more up front plea. This bit: "The bid rejected from Forest earlier today was £25m with £10m add-ons, but many of those clauses are believed to be unlikely to happen."
If he's going to be worth £40m in a couple of years time, you wonder

It's all speculation, but it't be amusing if they both valued him at £50m, yet simultaneously thought he'd never get into the England team!

He's worth whatever they demand? Brilliant! My house is now worth £2.5m in that case!

It could be as simple as they REALLY don’t want to sell.
I think with 2 years left on his contract he may be worried about coming out in the open asking for a move-if for whatever reason the move breaks down he’s then in the shit.

Seems to me we've given this our best shot and should move to a more achievable target.
If reports are accurate that Wolves have rejected a £35m offer, they're convinced MGW is going to produce the goods in the PL.
They're taking the risk coz if MGW struggles, they'll be lucky to offload for half that amount and be stuck with an unhappy player.

Well yes....if you own you house and don't want to sell it, then you can sell it for what ever you deem appropriate.

Just because someone offered the true valuation or slightly over doesn't mean you have to accept it.

If you're really happy in your house, don't want to move, don't need to move then you won't sell it unless they make an offer you "can't refuse".
