Despite neither being concussion subs, does anyone really expect to see MGW start on Thursdy night?
Given the antics by Emry and the response of the Villa fans to them, plus the madman rant after the first leg by the nutter, I suspect Thursday evening could be a feisty affair from the off, with Villa trying to intimidate the ref by diving and calling foul for every challenge, and to intimidate forest players by surreptiious use of the elbow and leaving a foot in on the tackle.
MGW would want to give his usual 100%, and I could foresee him doing even more damage to his stiched face.
I don’t, maybe a spot on the bench

Is Aina definitely out then?
Won’t matter , Doris on the COOP bacon counter told me, we’ re playing 2-5-3 anyway.
You heard it here first.

I can’t trawl through all of this but.
Whether Abbott or MGW or both or neither were officially “concussion subs” is a red herring I think, as they would both have been subject to head injury assessments that would have identified concussion and severity of said concussion.
Who knows what those assessments unearthed.
Regardless of whether MGW was concussed or not, the siting of this “gash” doesn’t look great. It’s not a simple headband job. I just wonder whether physically he will be able to play on Thursday.

I suspect he will not be able to function fully if he is selected.

To be clear, we didn't make a concussion sub yesterday, Chelsea did (Derry). We replaced Abbott, but my guess is that he was coming off for Neco at half time anyway so they just brought it forward after the collision because it was so violent and wanted to take precautions.

Because Chelsea made an official concussion sub we also got given a sixth substitution, but none of ours were officially made as an extra concussion substitution, hence both Abbott and MGW hopefully being available on Thursday.

There must have been a concussion sub for us yesterday as we made six changes. That is only allowed if one is a concussion sub.

That's the sort of thing a Direby fan might post!
His brain is in the right place, and is a finely tuned football brain that controls every aspect of his game.
I was posting with a heaped tablespoon of sarcasm - for those of our own fans who have said it in the past to swallow. (Although in fairness, he has had moments, such as the speeding and the failure to register the dog that are usually the source of such comments).

Ok but IIRC the tv bods said at the time that Abbott was a concussion sub didn’t they?
Honestly I don't remember. It would have been a fair assumption to make in the situation if they did. From what VP has said since the game though it doesn't seem that that was the case.

One of Morgan or Abbott was a concussion sub, and I am pretty sure it was Abbott that went off under that ruling and not Morgan given Perieira's comments about him being a warrior and a fighter.

- Cunha for Milenkovic.
- Abbott for Williams.
- Dominguez for Anderson.
- Bakwa for Hutchinson.
- Jesus for Gibbs-White
- Gibbs-White for Wood.

So yeah, I would say Abbott was a concussion worry and subbed via that ruling.

Yes.

The definitive feedback from the touchline to the studio was that Abbott was a concussion substitute.

If a team makes a concussion substitute then the opposing team are also allowed to make an additional substitution.

Another little known rule is that if a team has the same number of normal substitutes allowed then they are permitted to use a player that's previously been substituted.

Not necessarily though. One of the peculiarities of the 'concussion sub' rule is that if one team uses the concussion sub, the opposition team also gets the option to use a 6th sub, even if they haven't had a concussed player themselves.

I see. Talk about weird rulings but I guess it makes sense.

I have actually suffered a similar injury, where I knocked the ball past a keeper who carried on running and we banged heads and I had a similar gash but it was just to the side of my eye. I just had a few butterfly stitches put on it and it was a little sore but no real problem.

However, Morgan's is in the middle of his forehead... how will he head the ball and not possibly reopen the wound? I've no doubt he will want to play and I can see him at least being on the bench in case we're desperate but I wouldn't be surprised if he's out.

I guess he’d have a cover over the wound and a wrapping around his head which should help. Probably be re wrapped at half time. How often is he likely to head the ball? And I guess if it is a key header he’ll just go for it (diving header at the back post to win the tie).

Don’t see how he can play tbh. He isn’t going to be able to go for headers etc, even with some sort of covering.

Once it's glued, stitched and wrapped it would be difficult for it to open up again. It would take an impact that would cause one anyway for it to come undone.
