Morgan Anthony Gibbs-White (of ENGLAND, but only for the last ten minutes)

England play four times during the break, twice a week.

I'll be really surprised if MGW doesn't start at least one of those. Presumably there will be lots of rotation.

If he goes next summer but plays this season like he did last season, i think we could command £60m max, when under a longer contract we could probably get another £25m easy.

And it might sink the Club back into the Championship.
I think we are that reliant on him still, yes. It's rare that we score a goal and he isn't involved in some way.

I look at many other clubs in the Premier League that constantly lose their best player or players each year and not only do they not just drop instantly like a stone, they actually thrive and get better with whichever random 17 year old Ugandan they've plucked for £40k from a village team.

I look at us unfortunately and despite this being our 5th season back at this level we're still too reliant on a player we signed in our promotion summer.

And in the same season Forest are obliged to sell 2 of the best midfield players, going from the Premier League's outstanding midfield to Championship standard when MGW joins Elliot Anderson in the Former Players section.
Bugger the £116 million, and the mooted £125 million: in any other business this would be called asset stripping.

Would you rather us follow the Liverpool/palace method of just letting our players leave for peanuts/nothing at the ends of their contracts?

No.
I do understand the money side of things.
what I don’t understand is how a small provincial club, 23 years out of the top flight is supposed to build a big team that can compete for the glittering prizes when even after 5 years back with PL revenues we still can't afford to keep our top players and challenge for the top places.
MGW has ambition to play Champions League.
Well, he ain't gonna be able to do that here, so thanks for the 5-years he has given us.
Mind you, I would suggest he aint gonna get champions League at Spuds either.

I would like us to tie him down. But if we can't, how much transfer value are we willing to lose?

Lets say we might expect £100m in Jan, £60 mil in summer, £30 mil the following Jan, then nowt, is he that crucial to hang onto?

That would be £0 value lost in Jan, £40m in Summer, £70 mil the following jan, and £100 mil the following summer.

And in all scenarios we have to cope without him at some point.

Numbers pulled out of arse, but I don't think it's obvious what the club should do, beyond try to tie him down.
I'd lose all of it. He's paid off what we paid for him several times over. We won't get near what the player is worth to us unless he signs a new contract.

If the coach hired to win us a trophy wants him to stay and the pair of them deliver that in 27-28 before he leaves on free, what's that worth to us?

The club can't take that approach with many players. But if ever they make an exception, it should be with our best player for thirty years who we know we can only sell under value.

If he insists he wants to move on that's another thing, but if he is happy to stay another season and we accept an underwhelming fee I could see that being a decision fans discuss for another thirty years.

I hope TT doesn't add further insult to the best English No. 10 by dragging him away from the Dubai holiday with his family, and then leave him sat on the bench, to bring him on with 3 minutes left to play in just 1 of the games, and not giving him game time in any of the other games. If Tuchel does that, then he should be strung up from a lamp post with piano wire.
Not necessarily - Tuchel has long made the case that he values the group dynamic above pure skill so if Morgan can show he fits in well with TT's core group then even just being in the squad can be a great start for the beginning of the next cycle to the Euros.

Generally the teams competing for the glittering prizes - the top5/6 have far superior revenue which enables them to not be selling clubs.
This to an extent is a closed shop with the likes of Chelsea and Citeh bending the rules to become part of that club.

Within the rules the only ways to plan a route into the top 6 is to increase your own revenue base - bigger stadia, overseas supporters, more diverse revenue from sponsorship and merch - or be highly proficient at buying low and selling high. - otherwise it's just 100/1 luck like the BinDippers

Our approach is to do a bit more of both. But we're a bit late to the party.

For example, Sunderland have a big stadium and market themselves aggressively overseas and Brighton have got 40 people pouring over data sets , with a proprietary algorithm making transfer decisions.

So as much as it pains , deciding when the optimal time to sell MGW is a decision needing to be made.

OG showed at Palace it is still possible to punch above your weight and lift trophies - presume thats why we paid a fortune to hire him. But its rare

Exactly. Ultimately then it's entirely his decision to leave should it come to it, no-one else's. And if he is truly irreplaceable at any price, throwing £100M at the problem should he leave isn't going to resolve the problem either.

This is the problem with you kids nowadays! No patience, you want everything now!
The 23 years in the wilderness with, let’s say erratic ownership, has set us years behind the top 10s spending power and our only way to try and catch up quickly is to do these deal when they make us most money.

I love the idea of playing hardball and keeping him next season if he doesn't extend by a year so we get market value at the end of this season - but him leaving at the end of next season on a free would be a tragedy for a financial point of view.

I don't think we'll be quite so dependent on him under Glasner once the players get settled into this system, obviously we always want a player of his quality on the pitch but I don't think we'll be relying on him to single handedly drag us through games like we've been used to

Hopefully that puts us in a strong position next summer, either he decides he wants to stick around and we offer him a new contract or he decides he wants to move on and we cash in a healthy sum while being in a better position to move on

It’s simple, a small provincial club, 23 years out of the top flight is NOT supposed to build a big team that can complete for glittering prizes.

I, too, wonder about TT's use of MGW. Why use the excuse for not picking him in the first place, that there are so many number 10s to chose from?

Then, when actually putting him on the field, he shunts him off to the left wing for seven minutes. The victorious Spanish coach was rejigging his team for most of the second half, with much better results.

He’s our most important player, but if someone is willing to pay really big in Jan, if might be for the best
OMG - it wouldn’t be for the best at all.

We have already lost one of the big beasts, Eliot Anderson, we don’t want to lose an even more important player in the same season : the creative heartbeat of the side

The owner doesn’t want to sell as he already told Glasner that EA was the last big sale this season.

If he does sell, it will be for top money.

But it definitely won’t be “…for the best”.

Surely Tuchel has got to drop Kane, he was bloody useless last night one header that he claimed a goal that was put in by a Spaniard and missed a penalty, that was his only real contribution. Should have brought on MGW and the Leeds number 9 much earlier.
